I got some New Family too Exciting New Addiction

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

You're welcome! I think it's more like a very dark green than black. In my pic I think you can see how the edges on some of the leaves are turning much darker. But it was in my office for months so I expect it will take it a little while to turn really dark. I'll keep you posted on it!

I doubt if the plant ever really gets black. I think it's more like the green gets really dark, but I have to say I'm starting to see some really dark spots on my plant. The way Michael described it was definitely how it looked when it showed up - the green and white variegation with red overall. My plant is soaking up the sun and I swear it's getting redder by the day. When I get a chance I'm going to post a picture of one of my new neos. The guy called it "Volcanic Sky" and it is the most beautiful shade of purple. I also went by USF yesterday and bought three more broms - two aechmeas and an androlepis skinneri. I think I'm addicted!

Janet (and everyone else),
If you look on Mike's page and click on "Our Collection" and then on the button that says "See Our Collection" you can download a pdf of his catalog list and prices. No pics, but between the message board and the plant files, I'm sure we can help with that.

Allison,
I got "Volcanic Sky" from a guy at the USF Botanical Gardens Tropical Plant festival earlier this month. He had these little pups and the purple (my favorite color) caught my eye. I spent $60 at his booth! They have such good deals there. I spent about $40 at another vendor and he gave me a free vriesea! That guy had a landscaping business but bromeliads were his passion. Next month (Aug 12-13) is the bromeliad bonanza in the plant shop. They have a lady that's been propogating a lot of bromeliads from her personal collection. In the past few months I've bought (very large) pups of aechmea "Burgundy", Neo "Red Apple", Neo Dexter's Pride, and Billbergia saundersii for $2 each! It's been a great (and cheap) way to fill in my bromeliad garden (always under construction).

I stared at my pemiento on the way in today and the edges of some of the leaves are getting very dark. Not black, not dark green, but more like a very dark red that's getting near black. I'll wait a few more days and take an updated picture. It responds to the sun very quickly, but we know how powerful that Florida sunshine is!

Melanie,
Thanks!! I did click on that the other day, but I guess I should've printed it out. It was hard to try to find it, then, go back to the list, find another one, go back to the list, well, you get the idea. Anyway, I called him this morning to see if he would send a catalog to me. He said that it was not a color catalog, and asked me the same thing. Anyway, he is still sending me a catalog, so I didn't have to print it out. He was very nice, and said to call back if I had any questions. He said he only had 20 or so pics online, and the website had only been up for a year. Pretty good for a new website!!!
What a deal on those neos!!! Wow!!!
Congratulations!!

Heck two months ago I placed an order of a Chirita, couple Begonias, a Bromelaid, and Epsica from Glass Works I think the name is. They emailed me and said it was too hot too ship ???But they could ship in August ?? Did not make sense to me August is the hottest month. Out of surprise yesterday they took their money out of my checking account. Glad it was there was not expecting it. lol
Now I wonder does this mean they shipped ? Guess I will have to wait and see. I don't like companys like this.
Why I like Bromelaidworld.com
if in stock they ship within-24 hours business days !

Allison,
I got the catalog from Michael's bromeliads the other day, but it has no pics in it.
He has hundreds of bromeliads available, all different types and prices, starting around $5.00 each. Orders up to $39 are $8 and over are $12 in shipping sent bareroot.
I also noticed he gives group discounts. I wish I didn't work so much, I'll bet this would be a great coop!! I would not have time to do it though.
I may place an order, but there are so many to choose from, and it is so time consuming to look up all these pictures.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Janet
