Violet,

You are very.....pink today. I am more a purple or green kind of guy. Isn't it fun to have a new family move in! And remember Neo's multiply like rabbits. Here is one that I am bringing to the RD Up if anyone asks for it.

I went down to Selby Gardens this week, got 2 purple w/ green for 6.50 each and two bareroot for $7, they have some nice plants in the garden shop. I saw one that was striped green and gray, in bud for $50. Common sense made me stop. I would go more often but is 65 miles one way from the house.

Those are really nice. Love the Black one. We have some big Silver vase ones " Not the real name ? five years ago we had one now we have a half a dozen and we gave some away ! Three of them are blooming now. I have some otheres in the yard given to us growing well.
I love these colorful ones more thant anything.
I'm going to order more ! I'm 99 percent bedbound/homebound so I have to shop on line. I'm happy to fine a place I can buy these pretties on line !

Allison,
I just ordered when I saw your post this afternoon. Went straight to the website and placed my order. Your plants are huge and very healthy.
Their shipping is a bit high, but everyone's is these days.
I'll let you know when I get them.
Janet

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

My shipping was $11.00 for three large plants one in 6 inch pot and 2 in 4 inch pots , They go by zip code. How much shipping did you pay. I know most Vendors charge more. Rob's Violet Barn charges $12.00 for first plant and it comes in a small 2.50 inch pot and his cost is lower than a lot.
You should have your plants Monday or Tuesday. They will email you Fed-Ex tracking number too !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Janet loved the ones you ordered ! Two your getting are in six inch pots ! Even the one in four inch pot is a great size plant . You will be amazed when you get them !
Granada plant your getting is 10 x 10 !
Ellen B. just says six inch pot
And Fireball is 6 x 6 but seemed larger to me. Their nice clean plants in fresh light soil-less mix too !

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

I had ordered 3 tillandsias as well, but took them off, when they added $5.00 more to ship them. My shipping was $12, I think, but with the tillandsias was17.00!!!!So, that's why I took them off, tillandsias don't hardly weigh anything, all three would have just been a few ounces. No big deal, though, I could probably get them locally, just thought I would add them since they were only a few bucks each. I am sure ebaby shipping would've been a lot more. It's hard to judge sometimes until you actually receive the plants. Actually sounds like the ones I ordered are larger for less shipping.
It's stilll a great deal, and I can't wait to get them.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh my goodness Ebay people charge $ 6.00- 9.00 for one a little African violet. THat's what I grow mostly. And if you got to Vendors that sell Begonias, Av's Gesneriads and so on and ship Priority Mail Postal Service and most you wait 2-4 weeks to get, and cost way more and the plants are tiny.
Fed-Ex is an excellent service, kept in A/C truck and handled with care. Brought to your door. I was so excited waiting on mine. I can bet 100 percent they are charging exact shipping cost... I bought one small African violet plant from Optimara and it was $7.95 Fed-Ex shipping but not over night from time I ordered and got it about 3 weeks. The plant was $ 12.00.
When I got these plants I could not believe how large they were, how perfect made me wish I had money to buy one of each :))
I have ordered hundreds of plant orders in the past couple years and I guarentee you are going to be very pleased ! What so nice about these plants if a little soil gets one them you can just wipe it off. My plants were 99 percent shiney perfect clean nicest soil ( I am fussy about soil) I like my plants real clean. No dirt on them and they can be rinsed under sink . I just covered the soil with paper towel rinsed and look at the shinning beautiful coloered foliage ! Sorry to go on and on I just never got a deleivery loke this and these plants are so beautiful !
We have other types of Broms that have been growing in our garden beds for years but finding the most colorful one, the Neoregelia I fell in love. I'm addicted !
If you have ever ordered plants in pots before, and then large ones like these you will see the shipping cost are really cheap !

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

It's probably going to make me wish I had ordered more as well!!! ROFL
Sounds like you are really pleased and I am sure I will be also!!
I really wanted the Neo Pemiento. That one is awesome!!
It is out of stock. I was able to identify another bromeliad from that
site as well, it is Tav Heel. Got it at a flea market for $7.00!!!!!
Got lucky on that one though, the guy didn't know what he had.
Thanks again for the link.
Janet

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think I want the one that is out of stock also. Is it the red and black one ! I notice they keep putting different ones on.
I have to wait awhile before I can get more maybe in the Fall. Florida is great for growing all year round !
Sense you ordered your's last Friday then you might not get them until tomorrow. Can't wait to see your pictures !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Do you have a website for them Allison?

Allison,
I am sure I do have a program like that, but do not have the "computer savvy" to make it happen. ROFL

sorry the pics are so dark, but the bromeliads are really dark colored as well, which is just the kind I was looking for.
I still really want neo pemiento!!!
Janet

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's Ok Janet takes me forever to learn how to do anything and I've had this old wonderful computer I can't live without for 7 years. There is not much I know how to do.
I love your plants ! I also like the deep colors. That's what I look for beautiful colors.
And one has a pup ! Wow extra bonus. If we get a group of people growing these we can have a Pup exchange some time !
Here is the link to leave them a Feedback in DG Garden Watch !

Sounds good to me.
lmk if you notice that one on their site, and I will do the same for you.

2 of mine had pups!! How about yours?? Did you get lucky also???
Janet

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Janet,
I bought a neo pemiento from Michael's Bromeliads www.michaelsbromeliads.com It was only $15, and it's still doing well. I was so happy with the place I added them to the Garden Watchdog on the site and gave them a good rating. Only a small selection of his plants are online (including the pemiento), but he sent me a catalog of all his bromeliads and he has a ton! Definitely a fun place to shop. I'm hoping one day I can make it there in person.

Melanie
What size plants do they ship? What method of shipping Fed-Ex, UPS... do they use and how long from order does it take to get your plants >
What kind of condition were they in ?
Do you have any pictures of the ones you bought ?
Thanks, Allison
PS size of plants, were they in pots shiping methods, length and cost .

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

They shipped it Priority Mail and I got the plant in 2-3 days, but I do live very close (less than 100 miles). Oh, but I see you're in Dunedin so you're really close too. The plant was shipped bareroot with lots of soft packing material (and a catalog with hundreds of bromeliads!). I'm trying to think how to describe the size...definitely bigger than many pups I've bought. It had at least 10-12 leaves, each about a foot long. I'll go out and take a picture in the morning. I've had it for a year now, I got it as a birthday gift last August. It's been on my desk at work, but I wanted the colors to come out so I brought it home about two weeks ago. You'll see in the photo that it's turning red again. When I got the plant it wasn't as dark as the picture on the website, but I'm sure it depends on the light conditions. My coworkers said it looked very "Christmasy" with the red and green stripes. Again, I'll post a photo in the morning for you. Good night!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks !
I was extremly pleased with my plants I bought from Bromelaid World. The sizes are full grown on some. Two of my plants I got for $4.99 and another one for $9.99 . The 4" were in 3 inch pots, and the 9.99 in 6 inch pots which I like though I read some they ship babre root. I ordered on a late afternoon and got my plants Fed-Ex the next day ! The size and perfect condition and qualities of the plants I could not have been more pleased. I added them to Garden Watch too !
Have you bought anymore from them sense last year ?
I'm going to buy more but right now I am in the middle of a zillions things.
But I do want neo pemiento but I am also happy to wait to get a larger healtheir plant for 3.00 more if this was to be the case. What I shall do is email them and ask if it is in stock and the size of plant and how long for del.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Allison,
Now that I've had my cup of tea...here's my bromeliad. It's not red and black yet. It was sitting in my office not getting very much sun. I felt bad for it so now it's come home for some good Florida sunshine. In the last two weeks or so it has really "reddened up". It was almost all green when I brought it home. When it was shipped to me it was much more uniformly red, but I haven't gotten it to get really dark yet. I guess it's better to be cautious about how much Florida sun to give a bromeliad! Looking at my photo though, I can really see how much it's changed. FYI, the pot it's in is about 11 inches across . I need to plant it outside in my bromeliad garden, but it's sooo hot outside. It's so humid this morning I had to keep wiping the camera lens to get a decent picture!

By the way, Michael's Bromeliads advertises their plants as being half-grown, and I must say that when I got mine it was about half the size it is now. I've bought pups that were much smaller. I noticed Bromeliad World is showing out of stock on the pemiento.

Hope this helps. As my pemiento changes colors, I'll try and remember to post some more pictures.
