New lilies in my containers

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I must have received a few bonus bulbs from one of the suppliers because I'm sure I didn't order this one. It's a dwarf, only about a foot tall. I have two of them. I was drooling over somebody else's yellow lily with spots when this comes up in my garden! LOL

And here's a second new one for me, Lagio. Turned out rather well with my "Stones" (NOT)!

Lovely red, and the white really sets them off. What color are the spots on the yellow one? It looks quite similar to my Garden Treasure.

The spots appear to be brown. Here's a closer photo. It does look like yours, with the slight orange flush. Are Garden Treasures dwarf Asiatics?

No, mine is a good 3 ft. tall, but otherwise they're almost twins.

First year bulbs can be significantly shorter than advertised. Do you treat these as annuals?

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I do treat them as annuals. All my bulbs were stressed this year from either not enough or too much water. I'm lucky any of them came up. I didn't really expect it. I think they are Garden Treasure, and I'm going to order more next year and make sure they get the proper winter treatment. I think they're gorgeous! Thanks,, Moby, for helping me figure out where to get them. I'm pretty sure Lily Garden sent me a couple of bonus bulbs. I got a lot of orientals from them, and they generally do send extra bulbs. They have Garden Treasure. Where did you get yours??

My bulbs came from our lily society sale. Why do you treat them as annuals? You have a great zone to grow them in.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Two reasons. One, I have only a 20 foot balcony in which to garden, and I don't want my lilies to take up room during the fall months when I can plant something else. Second -- and by far the most important -- too short a life land too many lilies to plant!! LOL

Those are good enough reasons! Plus the balcony is a little hard to dig through. ;)
