I got mine Allison! You are the best!
Janis
Star of Bethelem
Cool ! So happy ypu like everything Janis !
I would like another plant of AATrail. both of you put my name on one. That way I will be sure to get it.
no problem Nanna!
Jill, it has the most babies of them all so far, I put the leaves down 5/13 :)
Janis
When I set leaves to give both of you plants, I had the same results. I didn't set leaves of AATrail before I through it away because of the problem the plant was having. Thanks so much for giving me a chance to have this plant again.
Nanna
Oh Nanna she is gorgous ! This one has always had my favorite flower of all of them !
I can certainly understand why. I love her
How are the new plants doing !
I fount that Star of Bethelhem like a lot of humidty I use to mist mine how is your's /
It is doing great. Loves it in the kitchen window. I took a baby stolen off and planted it. Rob says to keep the stolen cut until the plant is established.
Has anyone tried a chirita or an episcia in a self-watering ceramic pot? From what I've been reading, they like constantly moist soil but not soggy, which I think I can provide with that sort of pot as long as I only fill it so the water only comes a little way up on the inner pot.
I just moved several new episcias and my Chirita Tamiana to a bathroom shelf that gets bright, indirect sun. I had orchids on this shelf, but sadly they are no more. However, I do have a tray with gravel on each shelf that I add water to so the plants will get extra humidity, and of course they get a little extra humidity just by being in the bathroom also.
We'll see how they do there, but I was wondering about the pots...
I have some Episcias in the self watering pots & I have some in the cheap plastic self wateringpots, too. They seem to love them.
They are alive & that's more than I can say for the last batch I had.
I added an extra layer of perlite & charcoal to the bottom of the pot in both types. It kinda resembles the Oyama pots but cheaper..lol
MsC
Good to know! I just up-potted my Alsobia Cygnet. I put half an inch of perlite into the bottom of the ceramic self-watering pot (into the inner pot, I mean, not into the outer reservoir), and I used my AV mix (half perlite plus a bit of charcoal). I'll bet they would do well in Oyama planters, too.
I think I got a pretty good price on the Oyama planters at Indoor Gardening Supples.... 8 of them for about $20, including the 10% for shipping. But I'm cobbling together all sorts of makeshift arrangements for wick watering, bottom watering, Oyama type watering, etc....
why are people up at this hour?
That's just what I was wondering when I saw MsC's post! LOL
I finally (I hope) got rid of the migraine I've had since Friday -- not a hideous one, but not much fun either -- but I've still got the insomnia that developed with it! I slept until noon yesterday and today, and since I'm still up I am guessing I may be sleeping until at least 10 or 11 tomorrow. Sure glad I can set my own hours these days!
And why are you still up, K?
ouch. migranes.....
I've been lucky this year - none to speak of. amaaaazing.
I am almost done with a book. *sigh* I was supposed to stuff some gessies in boxes for people - they shall have to wait until tonight though.
I don't have insomnia! just a nighthawk! really!
I do have to go to work tomorrow, but maybe I'll ditch the plan to get in early.......
Haha...You guys are too funny!
I'm always up very late but now I'm about 2-3 hours behind everyone else so I'm always here alone..lol
Critter, I really understand about migranes...I had them until I finally got pregnant w/my daughter...after she was born I didn't have anymore, except the ones she induces lately & she's grown now.:)
You have all my sympathy!
Glad you're able to set your hours, too. I can as well & it's very nice .
I've tried to get a few pics of my Garden Window w/the Episcias in it but can't get the light right//I will post what I have. I like it. The new house has some great windows.:)
MsC
Episcias and Alsobia 's ..I have wicked and do well .
Alsobia Cygnet likes extra food and drinks. I kept mine in a saucer of food water all the time .
Now Chiritas they like it dry and are not big eaters..
watch Ali stay right on topic :-)
I'm going to try a Chirita or two with a wick. Maybe they like it dry but they don't like it dry Ki-style. I think with a super light mix, they might actually like it.
Neither of my alarms went off! :-(
hope that migrane has gone away.
I've got my Chirita on the same bathroom shelf, but in a deep saucer for bottom watering, so it'll get a chance to dry out. I'm assuming it'll enjoy the humidity.
I just rolled out of bed, only managed 5 hours, but so far my head seems to be OK. I'm generally a nighthawk too, but usually I'm not up past 3. The frequency of these migraines the last few years is definitely linked to the hoops we've been jumping through, trying to have a baby... I am hoping I'll be one of the 80% of people whose migraines go away during pregnancy! :-) And now I've definitely gone off topic enough in this thread, LOL, sorry....
Chirita do grow well wicked and large when wicked. I have my mega large one wicked. Well it's large for me 20 inches plus across.
Now Migrains I have them 3-4 days aweek where all I do is put ice on my head, dry heaves, and in between pray and sleep. I have a stronger medication were trying. Mine are caused though from build up of Carbon DXiode ( I cant spell)
as my breathing mussels are weak and it builds up. I should use my By-Pap breathing machine 20 plus hours each day but I dont. But yes I know their not fun.
There is a great link in Sticky how to grow Chiritas. I love them ! Easy to grow and so easy to progate !
Hello group. I am off topic as well for a very good reason I am 78 years old migranes were mine to have at least 60 years, my remedy very cheap and quick relief VICKS vAPO rub use across your forhead as soon as you feel the pain and across your nose and under your nose, you will see the headache disappear. MORGANBERG
Unfortunately, one of the scents in Vick's seems to be a migraine trigger for me... :-(
However, I think there are a couple of similar products out now -- "Ice Stick?" -- that may not have that scent (is it eucalyptus in the Vick's?), so I will have to look for them. An ice cold cloth really does help me, so I think there is something to this.
Thanks!
And just to get back O/T... so far, my episcias & chirita are looking happy in their new wicked or self-watering pots! I have a new one from Allison that I haven't repotted yet (the adorable 'Teddy Bear'), and I may try it in one of my 4" Oyama planters when it gets a little bigger.
