lol the DH wants a picture of the shirt....he's a sharp dresser and loves those type.
Post-Op Bariatric Proceedure III
TPlant, I've been off-line for awhile, so one of my first stops was to check on your progress....WOW!!! Loving the picture! You should post one in your new Guayabera shirt. Living in Miami so many years, I came to love the cool crisp look of those shirts. I even convinced my Pennsylvania Dutch husband to wear them...LOL
Pati
Tomorrow we are having a BBQ and I shall wear my shirt and pants(of course LOL)and have my son take a picture for ya all! Meanwhile the dang scale says I weigh 255lbs? Hey wait a sec? I didn't gain! I lost 3lbs! Last time I was 258lbs. OK-OK! Feelin real good...
My laptop plug-in port is not making a connection so I'm using the family computer and not used to this keyboard or the position. I get a laugh when I say family computer. Remember the old days of TV when there was maybe one TV for the entire family including the relatives and all would gather to watch Milton Berle? Now it seems everyone has a computer. We have three in our home so I can always be on line although with my sore shoulders it is difficult and uncomfortable for me to be working this one as mine is a lap-top and I use it while sitting in my recliner.
A BBQ? What's up, you guys move to FLORIDA or something? Zone-envy is a wicked thing... Have lots of fun and I'm looking forward to your photos!
Jealously, Carrie (wool socks and long underwear on)
Go for it TPlant!
I know exactly what you mean - for a small kid today, having a computer is as natural as having a toaster is to me....
Have lots of fun tomorrow!
A little behind schedule today but I didn't forget that it is weigh-in day The scale says 253 down two more pounds and right on target. Down two more pounds for a total of five pounds in two weeks. My goal is two pounds per week and so far so good. The doctor did not make an adjustment last trip as it seems it was not necessary and I guess it wasn't? Still no hunger pains. Have to keep reminding myself to eat. I take my vitamins and protein drinks daily as I know this is extremely important.
Good for you. You are doing GREAT.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaay T-plant! Waay to goooooooo! What sz pants do you wear now?
xxxx, Carrie
I am in a loose 46 Carrie and if I breathe in and pull my stomach in I can see my abs which I've not seen in many, many years. I can now eat anything including pizza but the fact is that I can hold no more than a slice and not four as I used to eat. Last night at my Publix supermarket I saw ice cream bars that were 98% fat free made by Starbuck's? If that is the case I can have those also but in a limited amount. It is nice to have a special treat once in awhile..
WTG, T!!!! You don't have to shop at Big & Tall anymore!!!
Tell me, T, what will happen when you reach your target weight/size? You don't want to keep shrinking forever, I hope. Aren't you required to take in a certain # of calories to maintain your weight? How is that # determined?
And what about caffeine? My DH doesn't like coffee or tea, only Coke and Diet Mountain Dew. He went almost 2 weeks with no processed foood and no lemonade and no soda. But he kept feeling sleepy. (He works in an airport control tower, sleepy's a no-no!) So he had to add diet caffeinated soda back in.) I also think caffeine helps his pain meds work better. I know carbonated drinks are OFF your list, but do you need caffeine?
Carrie
Carrie ---- Been out all day and just got home. Bought some new clothes today. Same size shirt XL. Didn't need pants but bought new socks and underwear. As far as protein is concerned I need 64 grams and I get that from my drinks. Calories I don't count because I don't have to be concerned about them. Veggies, lean meat and some breads give me all the calories I need. I'm never really tired unless I exert myself a little to much. I don't consume any caffein. I used to but if I did now it would break my comfortable sleep pattern. I want to go down to 200 or 210 at the most. When I reach that goal, which should be around February of 2007, my band will be readjusted by opening a little more to prevent further weight loss. It is simply a matter of adjusting the band according to my needs. I used to be in constant pain with my back, ankle and shoulders. Now the only discomfort I have is in my left shoulder which is arthritis. Physical therapy has helped me a lot with my shoulders. Seems the loss of 70+lbs has made a big difference in my pain department. I walk with a "Spring" to my step and it feels good and I really feel much lighter on my feet. For a man almost 70 years of age I feel very fit at this time. I'll keep this feeling of well being as long as I can....
T, this is really good to hear! I'm so glad for you, not just for feeling so much better, but also for such an achievement!
Congratulations!
Love
Fernanda
It all sounds great, T. I guess my DH will either have to learn to like coffee or tea or maybe even flat Diet Mountain Dew, since he really cannot be sleepy on the job.
One more question: is your skin shrinking along with you?
Congratulations again!
xxxx, Carrie
It seems to be so Carrie! At first I was very concerned about this. I thought I would need plastic surgery but my doctor told me it would not be necessary and he was correct.
This must be getting boring to you but I weigh-in this morning at 251lbs. Down two more pounds for the week and right on target. Don't feel slim this week. As a matter of fact I feel kind of bloated. I wonder if it could be the Starbuck no fat ice cream bars that I had this week. Ate four of them and still lost weight but again I fell behind on my water intake. Must remember to drink lots of water. It seems now that the weather has become cooler I don't drink as much water as I should?
would it count if you had it in a green tea or something like that?
I do drink lots of green tea also. The diet Lipton Green tea but water is best and I just keep forgetting! I'm going to fill a jug of water and keep it by my chair. It is probably the green tea that is helping me lose weight and maintain my fluid level? Never thought of that. Green tea is a diuretic so it must help?
I know it helps with me and when it gets cold I try and drink it up until about about 4 p.m. I'm also finding it harder to drink water now it's not blazing hot...I pretty much force myself to chug it and get it over with.
One of the only ways I can drink it is if I squeeze a bit of fresh lemon or lime juice in it ... then just drop in the portion of fruit in the glass and keep in the frig for the day and keep it filled. I love to freeze orange, lemon and lime slices to use instead of ice cubes. Helps me anyway. I dislike the flavored water from the store because it's sweetened, and I don't want sugar in my water! LOL
Oh, and Tplant ... if you were boring me ... I'd unwatch this thread! :-) Great job!
~Elaine~
T-plant,
Back when you were 325, that number was so big I couldn't relate at all. I just typed 525 instead of 325 and almost didn't notice. Now you are well w/in the range of people I know, people I've been married to, people I am married to! Now you seem like just a normally heavy guy, who could stand to lose a few pounds but couldn't we all? Welcome to being ordinary, lol.

What I know about this: Ozzy (her husband) has told the press in interviews that she vomits constantly, almost after every meal - that might have something to do with her decision to have it removed. At least she CAN have it removed because the lap band is reversible.
Osbourne plans to remove gastric band
Sharon Osbourne says she plans to remove a gastric band that helped her lose 125 pounds and instead rely on psychotherapy to cope with her weight issues.
"I have to figure out why I do what I do to myself," the 54-year-old wife/manager of rocker Ozzy Osbourne says in an interview in People magazine's Oct. 30 issue. "I think I have some sort of self-destruction button."
Osbourne, who has written a memoir, "Sharon Osbourne Extreme," had surgery for the gastric band in 1999 and plans to shed it in December (when she returns to the U.S. from Britain), she says. She packed on 15 pounds this year "from overeating," she says, even though the band limits what she can digest.
"I keep trying to eat more and more ... I'm a pig," says Osbourne, who has indulged in "chocolate, French fries and junk food" instead of sticking to the nutritious diet required of gastric-band patients.
What happens when she eats too much? "You throw up...then you eat more," she says.
Osbourne, who starred with her bizarre-yet-loving clan in MTV's "The Osbournes," is being cheered on by her three children: Aimee, 23, Kelly, 21, and Jack, 20.
"My kids, their whole life, have seen me struggle with weight," she says. "They say, `Now you need to spend time on your head.'"

Loon --- I'm confused about this. I could not find the article you were referring to? There is a bit of confusion as to the type of surgery she had. Gastric-by-pass is not removable. Lap-band is reversible. I don't understand her problem! One does not have hunger pangs with either surgery? You eat a small amount of food when hungry and stop when you feel full. If you eat more you will vomit briefly until the excess food is removed. She must be suffering from gluttony! This is the only reason for her vommiting. Her problem is more physcological than intestinal. She needs mental help.
Sorry. Here is the link to the article.

I believe she is now seeking mental help with her eating disorder. Many people overeat not because they are hungry but because they have an eating disorder. All the lap band does is restrict the amount you can eat. It cannot take away the reason you desire to overeat. Sooner or later one must address their food addiction. WLS is just a tool. It cannot cure eating disorders.
Thank you for correcting the thread. I see what you mean! She does have a serious eating disorder that only she can cure. It seems that she actually gluttonizes herself. That in itself is very uncomfortable to do! It makes you feel like you have a rock in your stomach. I don't know how she can stand it?
T - you're not worried that you'll start to look like Sharon Osbourne?! That would be bad.
xxx, Carrie
No! It is just so sad that after completing all the requirements prior to surgery and then having the surgery(which is the easiest part) and losing all the weight that she did only to start to gain it back and give up! What a shame. I don't understand her reasoning for removing the band. It must help to control her appetite? Without it she will definetly go HOG WILD and eat herself to death. The only way she will lose weight is if they sew her mouth shut but she would then most likely take it in through her nose! She needs to be supervised in a clinic and then some.
It may not be her fault. It is not uncommon for the band to erode into the stomach and there can be other complications that can cause all that vomiting. Here is a snip from a link that explains some longer term complications with the lap band operation.
SNIP/
Some studies document a substantial number of patients who have required re-operation for long-term complications of the adjustable band (such as for port problems, erosions and slippage, or inadequate weight loss).
Complications after LAGB
Intraoperative :
Hemorrhage
Injury to the spleen, stomach, or esophagus
Conversion to open procedure
Postoperative :
Band slippage (stomach prolapse)
Leakage of the balloon or tubing
Port Infection
Band infection
Obstruction
Nausea and vomiting
Late complications
Band erosion into the stomach
Esophageal dilatation
Failure to lose weight

I am very familiar with all the pros and cons of lap-band. I have attended many sessions but in Sharons case you will notice that she states to overeat and vomit and then go back to eating. By continuosly eating and vomiting she will definetly injure her band by slippage and develop a self induced infection. You really can not comfortably overeat. You will become nauseas immeadiately and vomit. To continue to eat and repeat the process over and over again is only begging for infections.
Those of us that suffer with morbid obesity must want to lose weight or no surgery will help us. I found it extremely simple and gratifying to follow the rules and have lost almost 80lbs since 3/10 of this year and so have many of my associates that have had the surgery. There are 145 of us that had this surgery so far and still growing. None have had such complications though we are aware that it could happen in very rare cases and only if we are careless with our food consumption. The majority, including myself, must remember to eat as we do not have hunger pains. We all maintain a nutrition schedule that includes multiple vitamins and calcium and do drink lots of water. It works if you work it!!! I'm sorry but I still say she needs mental help for her gluttony..
People who eat with self destructive habits no surgery in the world will cure. The need to seed thearapist and then when the REASONS for why they binge, overeat etc are clear then maybe do the surgery.
Food addition is not much different from an addiction to alcohol. Requires a strong energy and help of some kind to learn to control it.
Hi darius ---- Haven't spoke to you in quite awhile. Hope you are doing well? I have a freind in another group. That is the group that had the most severe by-pass, the gastric-by-pass. This is where a part of the intestine is removed and the remainder is re-attached to the stomach. She has TO BE MUCH MORE CAUTIUS THAN the ones with lap-band as she can not consume large amounts of sugar, candy, cake etc. Of course neither should I but I can without nautious results. She becomes violently sick if she cheats. She tried once but never again. We both lose the same 2lbs or so per week so I don't know why people put themselves through so much discomfort? Their hospital stay is at least four days with some recouperative pain while I was home in less than 18hrs with very little discomfort. Their proceedure can not be reversed while mine(lap-band)can be removed if medically necessary. Sharon is fortunate that she does not have the gastric-by-pass or she would be doomed under her conditions.
Darius,
Can you see some celebrity (Mel Gibson?) boasting about going 57 days without food? Unfortunately, food is a necessity, like water and shelter. If you can't eat they put a hole in your stomach and pour in the food. (I almost got to that point once. I was very ill, burning maybe 3-4000 calories a day and they could only pump in 1500 - 2000 through my nose. I'm guessing on the numbers but I did have a tube down my nose to my stomach, my metabolism was on "hi", my pulse, BP and temp were all way high and they did want me to have a tube put in my stomach.) (I wish I knew where that darn switch was. "Hi" would be ok once in a while...lol.

oh, Carrie, my comments were not about eating or ncalories, more about eating disorders whether diagnosed or not. So many people have an undiagnosed eating disorder. In my small town, the prime medical problem is obesity whether 6, 16 or 60. I blame most of that on advertising and fast foods. Education even at the school level doesn't seem to sink in.
Can't make a weight report today as my three year old grandson was bringing my scale to me for my weekly weigh-in and accidently dropped it so I'm on my way to Lowes to buy a new one. Weigh-in will have to be tomorrow am. Meanwhile doing great.
We bought the flat digital one (very slim lined) paid 50 bucks for it, it's the one that will go up to 340 lbs. didn't last a year...we can't figure out what's wrong with it but at that price you'd think it would last longer. I have to have digital cause in the mornings when I weigh I just can't see the normal little dials.
! Children!
No more starbuck lo-fat ice cream bars for me. On my new scale I weighed in at 253 lbs. I gained two lbs this week instead of losing two. Darn my very first failure but this was my own fault ! Other than this I'm doing just fine. I feel guilty though but I'll just have to put this behind me. The weather here has been magnificent and I've been working in my garden and just sitting out there taking in this beautiful new life that I have been given. Wish you all could join me?
Be careful what you wish for...
Yeah, remember when you were on a diet and you messed up, and then felt so bad about messing up you had to eat a quart of ice cream? Isn't it great that you don't have to do that any more? And couldn't you blame it on the new scale?
xxx, Carrie
PS keep up the good work!
Hey Carrie -- Yeah that's it! It's the fault of the new scale..LOL
