'Blue Bird' hydrangea

Painesville, OH(Zone 5b)

This came up pink/lavender last year, so I amended the soil. Apparently not enough, because it's still the same color! Oh well. I still like it. :-) Tamara

It's hard to fight nature! If you really want to change the color, you probably need to amend your soil closer to bloom time, if you did it last year there was probably enough time for things to go back to the natural pH between then and now.

My Ami Pasquier bloomed periwinkle blue on one side of my house and pink on the other! They pink ones were newer plants though, so I will see if they turn bluer this year!

Here is the pink side - forgive the weeds...

Looking at these pictures, I realize that you probably can't tell a difference, but believe me they were very different looking in the yard!

This cultivar is supposed to blue, but mine doesn't want to cooperate. I do like how hydrangeas can bloom different colors depending on pH. Wouldn't that be cool if all flowers did that? :-) Tamara

Especially the ones you buy by mistake and they aren't right....

I like mine to be right on the edge of pink/blue. I guess you could say lavender. However our soil here is very acidic and mine are always dark blue.

We have acid soil, too. That's why I like Ami P. she is sort of periwinkle. I got her from Hydrangeas Plus. She is a mophead, though.
