Here is a brug I grew and named Ruthie, my Mom's name. It was named Ruthie to give Mom a kick. I always made sure one of my trips East was in May so I could plant her a little garden in pots outside her back stoop so she could sit in her wheelchair and look out at pretty flowers from her kitchen. She adored flowers/plants .......... now you know from where my great love sprouted.
I thought it would be great fun if I brought Ruthie as a surprise with me the next spring. I was hoping she stayed pretty for she had only had her first bloom period that fall. It was not a well thought out plan, just a lighthearted idea that I thought would be great fun for her. It really wasn't meant to be named after her, but rather for her, if you can understand the distinction. Well my Mom died early in that next spring as the daffodils were making it into the stores there, sadly before she heard about it or saw it, so it is kind of bitter sweet.
Here she is now.
Ruthie
Kelly, she is awesome. I'm sure that your mom is looking down and is very proud to have such a beauty named for her!!
Kell, Ruthie is gorgeous. I can't wait for mine to get large enough to bloom.
I know your mom would Love it.
Such a beauty, know your mom would have loved it. Hope she's looking down and seeing what has her name. She knew you loved her very much Kell.
Again .. utterly gorgeous! .. I'm getting very envious of these hot colors you have. I broke down and actually bought Parks Cherub brug which is a very dark pink (it's the 2nd brug I've paid money for) because of my longing .. I love the yellows and white and light pinks, but I really want something that will er... slap you in the face with color!
Sigh ....

just beautiful! Funny- my name is Ruth and my daughter is Kelly. Wish she loved plants like you. Too young to appreciate lifes true beauty yet, I guess.
Wow that's a real beauty Kell. Wonderful of you to name such a beautiful brug after your Mother, I know she will be so pleased.
You have some of the prettiest brugs this year, I am crossing my fingers that you will have that beautiful dark red Brug this year.....
Dee
Kell, I think the brug is so beautiful because it was brought into life with love for your Mother and it is God's way of sending you a kiss from your Mother to you. God love you so much. Joan
Oh please do not be sad for me for Ruthie is not a brug for being sad, but I appreciate your kind thoughts. I was just giving the history of its name and its value to me. I will always love this brug.
She also has huge flowers and grows fast to a huge tree with great flushes.
Last year the first Ruthie brug had to be tossed. I think it had cucumber mosaic. I kept thinking it had mites but it would not clear. She got sick around the time my Mom died. How weird is that? I kept her going for too long till her neighbor got the same leaf distortions. Then they both had to go. Thankfully I had started a few much earlier, the one you see is a huge sucker she had. I was so glad I had done that. Usually I dawdle way too long before I do things and had I done that here she would be but a memory. My advice is always take cuttings as soon as you know you like a brug. You never know when lightning will strike.
Here she is just now. This is taken from the back because I can't really get to her from the front. As usual, everything grows so much faster than I expect them to do.
She is truely beautiful, Kell.
Aloha
Very beautiful! I know your mom is smiling down watching over you and your lovely garden.
Kell,, just beautiful, and such a tribute. I have some plants growing from the seeds you sent me. crosses... One was Sexy LadyxSusanne. Will have to check the others tomorrow. hugs, Elaine
Wonderful flowers and the name history adds to the beauty of the plant. Please continue to send photos of your brugs as I will probably never see them any other way. Kell, you are a kind and dear person!

Kell, Ruthie is a beauty.
Ruthie, is precious Kell, as are you!! Your mom, and you, are lucky girls...
It's all just very magical and sweet. Gorgeous brug! I'm sure your mom would be very proud.
Reading your thoughts make me hope that my daughter and I will be that close when she's grown and on her own. :)
She is a beauty Kell, I am glad you shared her name and beauty here.
Beautiful brug, beautiful dedication......
Kell,
Your brug and its name are beautiful. Isn't it wonderful how many things bring memories of love to the heart and beauty to the eyes.
Kell, It is very pretty!!!
Kell,
Ruthie is a beautiful brug with such a wonderful story to make her even more special. Thanks for sharing her with us.
Sharon
What a loving tribute to your mom. It is absolutely beautiful!
It's a beauty Kell, I remember it from last year. Nice flush.
She is a must have! Very nice!
I really like the color of this one and it appears that it has wonderful flushes. I remember it from last year and when you named it. Ruthie fits this one for sure.
Good to see you posting again Root and hope all is going well with you.
Hi Linda, long time no see. Hope you are doing great!
Hi Root!
Thanks all.
Today Ruthie was darker, the sun just made her glow. She is right next to an vivid orange rose called Trumpeter. This brug is more red tinged orange than she is true pink this flush. I wonder what makes them turn that orangy color here. Maybe our water.
That is the closest to red I've seen. I have one of your seedlings that is very bright, in a very similar shade to Ruthie, but here top is lighter, rather striped and when it all turns the same color, it's more of a dark rose...
Sherry, in person the seedling of Red that I just posted the other day is much much darker, her lower skirt is almost red.
Thanks everyone! I do have high hopes for this one. I just got my first trailing report on her and am eager to see how she progresses as she matures in the South.
Do you have a pic Sherry of the dark rose color? I can't figure out if it is the water that changes mine at home to that orangy color or if it is the weather here. And it is not a true orange, I wonder what the official name of that color it. My Big Yella used to turn the real orange and they are not even in the same ball park as to color.
Here is Ruthie this morning at 7 Am so no sun out yet to illuminate her. Though she looks great with the stand of Tropicanna and the Trumpeter tree rose, but she sure is about to clash big time with the real pink hydrangea hedge behind her. Can you see the true pink peeking thru? Yikes!!
Oh Kell that is just awsome. I love that color..
Great Photo..........
WOW! Beautiful!
Thanks for sharing that beautiful plant! I would so love to see one in full bloom like that. So far, I've never even seen one bloom - ever- but hope to from the seedlings I'm now tending. DGers are so generous with their help.
I want to be on the list for a cutting if you ever give this one a trim. I think it would like our east Texas climate.
I know your mom is bragging about you to all the other angels!
Just beautiful!!
Touching tribute.
Each time you have posted her, I think wow.
It is one of the most beautiful brugs I have ever seen.
Well friends, I am in shock. I was just outside and Ruthie is putting on a show I just can't believe. So much darker than she ever was before. I am amazed and in awe. Not to get too weird here, but do you think my Mom is telling me something? Why would she burn so bright right now, this is her 3rd year. I have been in a lot of pain over my Mom, so I am thinking maybe she is here. I just can't explain it any other way. She is so much prettier than she ever was.
I just took these. She is even darker than these pics. I just can't seem to capture her right.
She looks like she loves where she lives, I'd keep on doing whatever you have been doing, she is really a girlie, showoff, I love her, so pretty!!!
