Holy Moly...the scent was Almond Joy!!! It is the H. latifolia!!! And the H. ischnopus outside the LR is full of blossoms...I cannot believe the fragrance....

It is a shame so many of them wait until so late at night to release their scents. H. lacunosa smells good all day, but most of them only have faint scents if any all in the daylight hrs.
My 2 big H. shepherdiis are blooming now, and I have them hanging right outside my bedroom windows so that I smell them when I go to bed. In fact, I smell them the minute I walk into that room at night. Heavenly.
Non of my latifolias have ever boomed yet, but yours is so beautiful and if it smells that good, I am now anxious for that to happen too.
Your curtisii is wonderful. At least you don't have to worry about it being in that awful wet EA soil. Ha Ha
I go to bed early too, but usually read a bit (and smell the shepherdii) before actually going to sleep. Can't wait for Ann's book to be done. I asked Chris about her's the other day also, and she said it is almost finished too. Oh...I will be up LATE reading if I have all this hoya material to look at. Ha.

Carol, why isn't that an epi? by the way Happy happy birthday! We are both June babies ;~) -joanne

It is? I thought epis were the 'season cactuses'...this flower is huge.... I am also told there are many ....'strombrugias"...etc. I sure wish I had time to learn them all...hoyas keep me pretty well occupied...so I just beg for help instead!!! LOL

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Carol..I believe she is right..it is an epi.
The epis are the seasonal cactus but they are ALSO orchid cactus..which I believe is what you have there :)
