Why, thank you ALL! YUP...and I feel like a Spring Chicken!!! 66 years young...and proud of it...cause the alternative is no option!
Today? Well...I am taking the cushions from the porch in with NEW material to have slipcovers made (will post pic when done...they are going to be really neat), do some errands, buy some fertilizer AND go to a friend's nursery and pick me out 3 indoor palms for the living room and porch. I have killed the ones I had and need to kill some more! Then, tonight we are driving up to Volcano (yes at the Volcano) for Thai food AND a program they hold every Tuesday called "Dark in the Park" where they put on scientific presentations. Today's subject is about WHEN Moana Loa erupts, what is likely to happen? Interesting and timely subject. It is not a question of IF but a matter of WHEN - we will have a front row seat!!!
Gotta play plants a bit inbetween. I love communing with my plants....

OOOOOoo so guess what!!! I went by my favorite nursery (they sell wholesale all over the islands) and bought some palms for the lanai - nice ones to kill - and the owner gave me a HUGE H. curtisii for my birthday...it is as large as a basketball!!! I always thrill to get plants!!!! Came home to find DH with the flu...oh well, can't win 'em all...

My husband also likes to kill palm trees :) but they have such fun doing it (laugh)
My very favorite palms for darker spaces (like in house or porch) are the famous Kentia palm and one that you don't see too often, the "Metalic Fishtail Palm" (Chamaedorea metallica). It is very slow growing, small, looks great anywhere, and I haven't killed one yet, even though I left one (forgotten about) back on the side of a garage for a year without caring for it. I guess it got water from the neighbors sprinklers, cause when I found it, it was fine except for some scale. Cleaned it up and put it on the porch...it is beautiful now.

Marcy...what a great idea!!! I did buy two "Parlor Palms"...they need to be cleaned up a bit but are nice and full (5gal pot - 25$...6' tall), but didn't think of the C. metallica. I had 3 but we put them in the ground.... Gotta get more...I really like them. Can get them in a 4" pot for 5$... Not bad, eh?
