Coffee and.....For Tuesday June 27th

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

We came over from here...

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/619535/

I01's power is out so she asked I start the thread for ya'll.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks araness, so I01is in the dark tonight. Must be some storm.

We are having thunder and lightening, and they are predicting rain overnight.

Never did get back to comment to all, but sure was busy from 6:00 on. Unbeknownst to me, DH hauled more dirt around the pool this afternoon, and when I found out, had to get out and get some plants in the ground. The back side of the pool is now landscaped, grass seed sown, straw down, and watered in. I planted about 30 hostas, 30 petunia's, and 50 glads. I really don't want the glads there, but had to get them in the ground somewhere. Will have to dig them this fall anyway, so I will plan then, where to put them.

Mary, I did want to comment on the unfortunate situation with the ride this past weekend. It sure was fortunate that people went out looking for the lady. I sure hope that she and her horse recover. I do know that colic can sometimes be more serious than what one would think at first. Have spent many nights/days, walking horses to keep them from getting down. DH had a belgiun draft horse several years ago, who was a favorite, and he coliced after a horse event, and after several hours of walking, IV's, oil treatments, with the local vet, DH loaded him and took him to the best equine clinic in Kentucky. They treat the thoroughbreds, and he had surgery that very night. However, the outcome was not one we wanted. "Bones" is buried on our farm here. Granted the surgery was expensive, but we were willing to try to save him. He was such a gorgeous, friendly fella, still miss him terribly. Funny name, but when we got him he was just skin and bones. We all have animals that we get so attached to that they are real members of the family.

Well, have to get this body in bed, as I have a 9:00 appointment in Louisville which is about an hour away. So that alarm will sound before I am ready.

Good night all.

Saint, thanks so much for starting the daily for me. I was worried when I realized how severe the power outage was .. and that I might not be able to get back on line to post. Thanks so much for picking up the slack for me. :-)

Over half the city was without power tonight. We were without for 2-1/2 hrs. When I tried to log on to DG, I kept getting "page not found". I'm not sure if DG was having trouble or it was my internet connection due to the storm ... but I've just now been able to log on. I was beginning to have withdrawals, though. We did get entertained with the DH's work radio ... getting to hear what all was going on around town. Police and fire dpt were kept hopping with fires due to power lines down and transformers out all over town. There were accidents because of traffic lights out and people not being careful. Whew! We've had *some* night!! Power went out around 10:00. It was some of the worse lightening I've seen in a *long* time. The rain came down in sheets, and I thought for sure it would beat my poor plants in the ground. Haven't been able to take a complete garden tour, but did go out to check on a few things. so far everything seems to be okay. Will check on all my maters in the morning. I won't try to comment tonight but will just say hope all has a peaceful one. Think I'll turn in. I've had enough excitement for one night. LOL

Lakeland, FL

Good Morn All, Yup we got the rain over the week end and then sent it on. I ran around yesterday here at work and planted a few things suitable for Fla. Now we are referring to them as "Florida Friendly" trying to re establish a lot of plants/flowers that are not invasive along w/ growing here w/out much care. Some of them are Tababulia, Plumbagos, of course Hibiscus and the list goes on. I had to wait for Mr. rain tho as no way to get water to them unless i compete w/ snapping turttes and a few copperheads? Have a good one folks, waiting for Mr. Sun to wake up. Corky and Tribe

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

We've had torrential rain for about 24 hours. Brief break, and now the winds are whipping and it's steamy and 90 percent humidity, so I expect we'll be getting a little excitement soon. hope the power doesn't go out for too long. In this wether we can always go down in the dehumidified finished basement and watch movies and pretend it's not horrid out.

It has been a bad spring on the East coast. We were lucky to get two nice days.

Guess I should make some storm plans (like cook up potatoes for salad and make plenty of ice)

corky-I ever so do not like copperheads and snapping turtles. Makes our miseries up here look like a day at the park!

Mary-Have you heard how the colicky horse and her owner made out? I hope they're recovered. how is Patch?

Ann-Congratulations on finishing another successful orchestra year. Do they all take the summer off?

Elaine-Sounds like you had an exciting night. hope it calms down for you and that the gardens held up okay.

Oops, storm is starting, have to go get animals!!~~~~~

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am up and showered and dressed and ready to head out the door. Have a 9:00 peridontist appointment in Louisville, and DM has a check for her hearing aids. Need to go to the pool place, and 1 other stop, then home,hopefully about noon or shortly thereafter.

DGD and her friend swam until about 10:00 p.m. last night, and are sleeping in. DH will watch them while I am gone.

Hope everybody has a good morning, and accomplishes a lot.

Morning all - I am up, but barely living. I just could not sleep last night. Finally at 3:30is AM I got up and took something and it zonked me out for 3 hours. It is humid and gloomy today - they are saying showers, but I put on the sprinklers!!

I spent all night worrying about DIL. She is doing her thesis and it is due the end of July. She is not a worrier,but yesterday she confided in me that she is totally stressed out. And they are going on three camping trips the month of July....(poor planning on somebodies part!) She doesn't have a laptop and hinted that she would like to take mine. Now I love her dearly, but really don't want to trust my new laptop to ANYONE!! I'll have to do some major thinking on that one... On one of the camping trips they will be with us, so she can use it in our trailer - but that is the week when her thesis is due, so I imagine she will return home to work on it.

dm- torrential rains! Whew, glad that one passed over us! But the humidity is here too.

defoe and IO1 - storms your way too huh. Isn't this freaky weather? What happened to normal summer weather?

Today will be a whirlwind - shopping, baking for our trip, packing, laundry and making some order of the house.

Oh my gardening neighbor met me while I was taking my morning garden walk. She had a huge bunch of daisies that look like mums. We were over at her daughter's house and I admired them - the daughter cut me off a bunch and now I have some too! Only problem is, I have absolutely NO place to put them. And would you believe I just ordered some stuff from a co-op going on. What is wrong with me!!

Gotta get crackin

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning all. I'm showered and dressed and ready to head out the door. Fair skies so far, but rain coming this afternoon.

Ann, you had such a busy year with the orchestra, I thought you'd be taking it easy, and there you are, busy as usual! You put some of us to shame! When I'm not pressed for time, I'll leisurely check out the photo link to your hostas.

Sarv, I couldn't sleep well last night either but if I took something that far into the night, I'd still be sleeping. I would think long and hard about letting go of the laptop, no matter what, younger people think nothing of walking away and forgetting how valuable it is. That would be a terrible loss, and how would she replace it? Sounds nervewracking to me! And, knowing you, you'd be worrying about it the whole time.

Rain everywhere! Elaine had an exciting night. The East coast sure has been battered this spring. I just hope ours holds off until we finish our nine holes this morning...otherwise we'll be sitting on our rears until the luncheon at noon. Clever girl, asking Saint to get us up for the morning! Pass on our thanks, too, we appreciate her helping, and we thank you for doing this month's start ups.

Bonnie, the pool looks great, they didn't tear up all the ground around it and you've got a great start at filling it in.

Darius, that amount of unpacking is daunting!! But, you can take your time, since you'll be settling in permanently! Looking forward to seeing more photos on your other thread.

Mary, I hope Patch and Breezy recover well from their injuries, and you can use one of them for your next ride. It's always something isn't it. I complained to my DD about my vet bills and she laughed at me. I should have known better, she has eight goldens....what was I thinking to expect sympathy from her.....!!

OK I'm running out the door with a banana in hand for a fast breakfast, and ~~~~ing as I go. Will check in later this afternoon to see what's going on, and find out what Sarv had for breakfast!

Sheila

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

LOL M5- I've been a good girl as far as breakfast goes. I've been on a wheat/multi-grain bagel kick with peanut butter - it really keeps the pipes moving!!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning folks,

Now I've read through Sunday's messages. Sounds like you had a great trip, Bonnie. Loved the pictures.

Sorry to read about Patch, Mary. When is your next ride scheduled? Is it likely that he will be healed in time? I hope so.

Now starting on Monday posts. Glad you got some rain, Elaine. Now we have it here. Yesterday was a pretty good day. Should have made it to the garden but was too stiff. Today I'll get pretty wet.

Sarv - we have an older video camera as well. Practically unused. I never did get the hang of using it and it's an archaic monster now.

Sheila - your comments about the Mayflower make one think a bit about what early immigrants endured to get to North America. Loved the pics of Olivia.

dmc - Lyme disease has even spread as far north as southern Ontario. Fresh peas - sounds good. Your tomatoes are ahead of mine, but I made the garden rounds on Sunday and tied all mine up to the stakes.

sarv - you might be able to plant your pea seeds in late August. At least we can here at times, but if you wait till September it will be too short a time for sure.

Bonnie - sorry your dentist work didn't get done. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Twyla - good news about the fridge and dryer - especially the fridge.

Made it to the end of yesterday's thread. Will sen this now before I lose it. Then I'll start looking at today's posts.

Ann

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Bonnie - nice to hear that the pool landscaping is coming along well.

Elaine - has your rain subsided? Nice to have it, but would be even nicer in moderation. Glad your power is back on. Who is Saint?

dmc - as none of the orchestras are full-time operations, they all set a season and when it's done, no more till next season. Concert dates next year look as though I'll have fewer conflicts between the two orchestras. The National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) with music director Pinchas Zukerman here in town is a full-time job. They stay busy until the end of July with special summer programming and have August off. (Small orchestra and I don't play with them.)
Haven't seen or heard much about your farm of late. How is it coming along?

Sarv - does DIL HAVE to go on all the camping trips? I should think that getting the thesis done would be a valid excuse to stay home in peace and quiet and work on it.

Hey - where is everyone today? Nobody's posted except me since I started trying to catch up. Maybe I should take that as a sign and go do something. I DID have my car clean-air tested yesterday. Now I can go renew the registration instead of waiting up to the deadline in mid-July. And since it's too wet to garden, maybe I'll stop by a couple of garden centres and see if they have end of season bargains. Some of the plants I got last year half-price end of season - several Delphiniums and a couple of Achillea are doing really well this year.

If you want a chuckle, check out the thread which Sandy put up about our Hosta garden outing last Thursday. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/619872/ I'm gonna take a look at my pics as well to see if I have any in addition.

Here's a rose to send you off on a good (I hope) day. My first Chicago Peace Rose of the season.

Good mrning every one, was up till 3AM, must have gone back to ged half a dozend times , just that alone one would think the up and down would tire me, lol, well, it finally did and slept till 8:30.

Sun is in at in and out but starting later we will have thunderstorms for the rest of the week, eeeek, don't like them, would not want the same as Elaine had last night, down right scarry

Sarv, do not let your laptop out of your sight, it is vey easy to explain why with a sorry shake of your head. What to do you mean you have no place for the daisies, are the cut for a vase?

Bonnie, nice pool and when you get the plantings done it will be just great.

Yes dmc, can you believe such awfull weather we have had? It rained so hard here that some of the containers spilled the MG and now are showing bare roots, grrrrr

Darius, thinking of you having to do all this unpacking, what a job!
Elaine hope all that you are growing is ok?

Ann, you are soooo good responding to everyone, sometimes I go back to read something I missed but you did not.

here is a photo of my very first zucchini I (9") grew in the EB, so much earlier then the ones I planted on the ground

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Posted at the same time Ann, what a lovely rose. Mine have been decimated by all this horrid rai

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Maria-Great zucchini! what are you going to do with it? I vote for zucchini bread!!

I have two peach pies in the oven, so they will soon be up for grabs. MMM I love, and rarely get, fresh peach pie. I need to go peach picking, which takes place south of here, and then i want to can my peach pie filling. If I could get good fresh peaches i'd try dehydrating some too. My kids love dehydrated fruits for snacking (so do I when i have a sweet tooth acting up!) I guess peaches are another thing that doesn't ship well.

Ann-We are still hemming and hawing about the farm. We are now looking at pouring a nice basement and then picking up the main part of the house and moving it onto the basement! This takes some planning~! We have somebody lined up..still working on details. Then we will rebuild the kitchen area from scratch so it will be up to code for wiring and plumbing,and square for cabinets, etc. It will be a multi year project.

We've had 7 inches of rain for June, three inches this week, which is normally the total for the month. Lots of flooding a road washouts in the area.

Morning all
Well Maria ... sure wish I'd known you were still up at 3:00. I could have given you a call and we could have been miserable together! LOL After all, don't they say misery loves company? hehehe Oh Saint is araness who started the thread for me. So, you're liking your EB's? So glad to hear your zeukini are turning out. What else did you plant in them? I do not like bad weather either. Last night's weather was rather severe. I was glad I had my DH.

Ann, I enjoyed reading about your hosta trip. Sounds like you and Sandy really had a wonderful day. I set my containers of hosta out so they could get some rain the other night and when that rain blew up so fast last night, I asked the DH to run and move them ... but they're big and heavy and he said ... I ain't goin out there!! Lightening was popping everywhere. Late last night I went out to check them. I figured the rain had beat them to death as it had come down in sheets ... but they seem to be pretty tough. I was so surprised!

Hi M5, am going to give the vidio another try. I can use windows media ... so as long as nothing else pops up, I should be able to view it. :-) Hope you have a nice goff game.

Hi Corky ... hope things are going well with you and your family. Thanks for sending the rain up my way ... but next time ... maybe don't blow quite soooo hard? *smile*

Defoe, enjoyed talking to you yesterday. Hope you get your braces fixed. Ouch! that can *really* be a bother. It's been a while, but I remember how that can hurt. I wore braces when I was a tean.

sarv, I'd be just like you ... completely torn about what to do. I don't like to hurt anyone's feelings, but I *really* wish people wouldn't put me in those situations.

dmc, I'd sure love to have a basement to go in when the lightening is bad. Down here if you dig a little ... you hit water! LOL I hope all y'all in the north east get some relief from the bad weather soon.

Well y'all ... I've just got to get up from here. Hope everyone has a great day!
~Elaine~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back from the grocery store. DIL called me twice - couldn't believe I was still there!! I had to buy a load of stuff for camping - tons of junk food- that's what camping is about!! Spent 214 bucks...yikes, but retured 29.90 worth of cans and bottles, so that lowered the bill some!! I have most of it put away - now I just need to make some pay day bars and caramel corn.

Maria- we should have gotten on DG last night- I was so frustrated....I knew today would be a busy time and just couldn't sleep. Happens to me often when I have something coming up. Ended up taking two pills and even those didn't really knock me out. That is some zuchinni!! The daisies are ones that I have to plant - that is the problem. I will have to dig something out to fit them in.

IO1- I have a hard time saying no to my sweet DIL- she is such a wonderful, caring, kind person (but really scatter brained!!) She says often that she thinks she has adult ADD and I agree.

DM - do you make cherry pie filling???? We have a tree full of tart cherries and I would love to can some. If you do, could I please have your recipe!! I am going to try make cherry juice too this year.

VI - DIL made all these plans last winter - giving no thought to her thesis I am sure. All the plans are with diffe rent people. The last trip is with us and I will make sure she works - she always thanks me when I redirect her, but I try not do it as I feel 'bossy' doing it. We are camping together for 4 days starting tomorrow, but each day is planned with some activity.

Well, just ate a half a pita with cheese, ham and lettuce. It was tasty. Now I need to get busy and accompolish something...~~~ to everyone!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Sarv - I still think a looming thesis deadline is a ligitimate reason to cancel plans for a camping trip. She needs to take a good long look at things and decide what is REALLY important. Other camping trips will come up. Messing up a thesis can have long-time negative effects.

Ann

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi! Anyone else in the NE feel like their getting moldy? It has rained here for the past 5 days. Glad my aunt in DE moved or she would have been underwater. The News showed flooding in the town she used to live in. Had a Dr. appt. yesterday and left work early. Saw a little brightness in the sky on my way there, but wouldn't you know it, it was pouring as I drove home.

Elaine - Glad you got some needed rain.

Defoe - Sounds like you had a nice trip.

ViAnn - What a beautiful rose!

Maria - That zuchini would be great sliced and grilled.

Sarv - I would only let DIL use the laptop when you are camping together. Tell her you need it for something and can't loan it out.

dmc - Mmmm Peach pie! You have been getting some of the same crappy weather we have. Very windy here today. Hasn't rained yet, but supposed to be hard rain tonight.

~~~~to everyone. Gotta go for now.
Well, it's storming again. Will probably have to power down again. It's getting rough outside. Molly, are you getting any of this bad weather? Haven't been hearing anything from you in a couple of days.
~Elaine~
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
suzieq- I mixed up a bottle of fungicide for the tomato plants a couple weeks ago which took care of signs of blight- but i think I could spray the rest on myself, clothes, house ec!! Yes, I feel pretty moldy! Doesn't seem like you can get clothes dry, or your hair for that matter. Yuck.
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Elaine,
I went to Jacksonville yesterday to meet up with FlaJaxGardener. I was gone for most of the day, brought plants back so was working in the garden until twilight.
We have had a good amount of rain in the past few days and I am loving it. Right now it is thundering and we are leaving our clothes on the line to entice the storm to come this way.
Oh! Oh! wait, I have some sheets in the washer that need to go out, that should help the storm gods send more rain this way.
My son goes to Michigan to visit family tomorrow. I have to drive him to Orlando to the airport. He'll be gone for 2 weeks so you'll be hearing a lot more from me then........unless I decide to finish putting up that field wire fence up front................nah, I don't think so.
Molly
:^))))
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, it has turned out to be a rotten day, not weather wise, just event wise. Went to peridontist, took DM to have hearing aids checked, stopped for lunch, and bit into the sandwich, and the wires on my braces completely snapped, taking a piece of tooth with it. Cancelled all other things I wanted to do and drove to my regular dentist, he couldn't see me right then, so brought DM home, and need to head back to the dentist at 3:00. It if wasn't for bad luck today, I would'nt have any at all. I will catch up when I get back.
Okay, storm is passed ... but still raining some. Love that rain ... but don't care for the lightening so close. I have power surge protecters and UPS ... but don't like to take any chances with my puter. It's my life!!
Molly, keep the clothes out on the line. LOL I don't have one, or I'd have tried that. Hmmm, should have told the DH to wash the truck. That would have had the same affect! LOL Hope Jeramy has a safe trip. Bet you'll miss him ... or maybe you'll enjoy a bit of "me time"? That's what the DH calls it. ;) We all need it from time to time.
Defoe, so sorry to hear about your problems with the braces ... and oh my goodness ... a tooth? I'm sending the 2X4 for you to use on that dentist!
Well, gotta go throw the sheets over in the dryer. Washed them this morning but never have put them over to dry. Don't think they'll dry outside! LOL
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Trailer packed, laundry caught up, dishes done....seems like I'm about caught up = oh ya - still need to plant the daisies!!
DM called and wants to come out for a haircut for DF and to bring chinese. I would rather pass on it all, but I know they love it here. So that's the plans for tonight. When DH got home from work I twisted his arm to get all his clothes packed (I refuse to pack for him) Now he's all set, so I feel pretty good about it all.
VI - that (thesis) would be my choice too, but she will have to make the decision herself. I called her a bit and she was going to tutor and then go to her classroom and work on it. She cannot get a thing done at home. She may just end up not camping with us and let DH camp. That would work out, although I would feel bad about missing her.
Promised storms have passed us by for now. The sun is shining and it is steamy warm.
Molly where in Michigan is Jerermy going?
Have to run to the bank and the pharmacy to get a refill on my allergy meds. DS is coming over to make some humus for me. I was going to make it in my blender and he told me I would smoke it, so he's bringing his food processor.
See everyone!
sarv, sounds like you've got things all set to go. Sure hope you have a wonderful time on your trip. Keep in touch while you're gone if you have a chance. We'll sure be missing ya but have a great time!
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Sarv,
Jeremy will be visiting his dad (my long long time ago -X-) his half brothers in Hastings and then hopefully he will visit some of my family in Battle Creek.
Yep, Elaine, just a little "me time". Although it has been a good, very productive last year, I haven't had much time on my own. I have to refresh myself on the independence thing, being able to spend time alone without being lonely. I knew how to do that before.
The two weeks will probably go way too fast.
Molly
:^))))
Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)
Oh Elaine,
I hung the sheets up on the line along with all my DG t-shirts and it rained!!!!!!!!
Can't take the clothes down until later. I still didn't fix that drum belt in the dryer.
Molly
:^)))
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
Just looked up to see what I posted this morning because I did not want to repeat myself LOL it is not here, must have left for cyper space
I remember saying to Susie that is just what I planned to do with the zucchini, I am certain it will be yum.
I feel I am getting mildewy too with all that rain but perhaps it is my old age that makes me feel that way, lol
Have a fun time, Sarv! Sorry about the mishap with your brace Bonnie, hope it is fixed properly.
Elaine and Molly , please keep the rain down there, especially those thunderstorms, send it who really needs it, we up here certainly do not. Sun is still in and out , temp is 82' with a humidity you could slice.
Played with Samson and the hose, he just loves it
Edited to say, bought 6 oz raspberry this morning when I put them away I see between the absorbing paper, the berrie are totally mildued, grrr
not taking them back, they were $2.45 that would mean extra 20 miles on my car not to mention the gasoline
Well it's been off and on raining all day. No thunder and lightening, but the storms are HARD rains. Over in 5 minutes and then within 20 minutes we have another.
I did go out and get my car licensed and I renewed my DG membership. Then stopped by Canadian Tire garden supply where I bought a bunch of Verbena and Calibrachia to plant in among my new hostas for a bit more color. Also found a small garden support to hold some plants off the path in my back garden. And a box of freezer bags for the huge bowl of rhubarb I have waiting to be bagged and frozen. Finding them at Can. Tire meant I didn't have to stop by a grocery store.
I looked out on the patio and one big pot is swimming. It's got a sizeable drainage hole which doesn't seem to be working. I dragged it under the eaves and I'll have to tackle that later.
Anyone know if there's a way to sort the results of a DG search? I searched just the Hosta forum for "hosta flowers" looking for a thread by that name which was active last summer. 81 pages of results. Using three windows and a checklist of pages to keep track of where I was, I got through about 30 of those pages before I started to get "page not found" messages. I did eventually find it by looking at my own previous posts to Hosta forum.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
hope you did a beautiful job of dressing up that refrigerator. Do you have any adhesive tape? Tape the 5 kids mouths closed, and just for good measure, tie their hands behind their backs, that should take care of the mouthy part! LOL, know you wouldn't do it, but sometimes it has seemed tempting.
Got to the dentist, and it wasn't a broken tooth, just a bracket that had come off, pulling all the adhesive off, which really looked like a part of a tooth. I am all fixed now. He says that I may get them off on July 6, when I go back, Whoopee!! Sure hope so.
When I got home, DH had been to the garden, and had picked our first green beans, beets, cucumbers, yellow squash, onions, and cabbage. You all know what we are having here. I may make some cornbread to go with it, sure is smelling pretty good as I type.
Went to the pool store, and found out that the reason we couldn't put the pool vac together, we were missing 2 parts. Now I don't feel so dumb. Didn't have any instructions either. Dumb people, don't they know to include everything that is needed?
Well, gotta go check on the delicious smells coming from the kitchen. I will be back later, but don't count on me remembering anything anybody has said today.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Bonnie - sure am glad that the tooth itself wasn't broken. You needed SOME good luck today. Keeping my fingers crossed that you get them off in early July.
Fresh veggies from the garden. Sounds wonderful.
oh but i'am tempted i do not like it one bit.. yes i like magnets old but like them..it drove my husb. nuts when he was here did not like things around , nik- naks ect.. pictures such.oh well. i do.. would love some zuchinni hm..egg plant was nearly 2.00 each at store so i passed.. enjoying ice water.. really miss little things.. course ice in heat not to little.lol. take care all enjoy... Twyla
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
That's quite a collection of magnets, Twyla! Dresses up the new 'frig just fine. I wouldn't have any patience with kids underfoot, I didn't have any with my own, cannot imagine dealing with someone else's.
D'cat, how long will you have to put up with the braces? It takes longer for adults than for children. By the time I could afford to do it, it was too late and at a very inconvenient point in my work life. If I had done it at the right time, I'd probably not have an upper denture. I congratulate you on having the patience to deal with it.
Hand on to that laptop Sarv, the last person you want to lend it to is a scatterbrain! Sounds like you are well prepared for your camping expedition. We used to do it when my kids were young...I didn't enjoy doing all the same things I had to do at home under less than ideal conditions. Now, my idea of camping is a hotel without cable or high speed internet. Have a great time, and take pictures with your new camera!! Tonight's a good time to make up for that chinese you missed last week.
I was lucky Maria, the raspberries I got the other day were perfect. They were two for $5, which is high. How disappointing for you. I'm sure the produce manager hates the sight of me, I'm always turning things over and inspecting them, taking the newer produce from the back of the display rather than the older stuff in front. And you are right about the gas...I'd give the store a call and save the receipt and have them make good on it. We have blackberries ready to pick, and lots more still in the green stage. Time to make some jam.
Molly I haven't been able to hang sheets outside for a couple weeks, the day I decide to do them it always rains. Hmmmmm....I need to keep that in mind when we hit a dry spell. We really needed this last few days of on and off showers. We have so much area to water. We thought about a sprinkler system but they didn't think our well would support it. I don't care all that much if the grass gets brown but I hate to lose garden beds to drought.
V'ann, I can't find threads when I want to either, there probably is a way. If I can remember who started the thread it would help but by the time I need to I can't dredge it up out of my brain.
I had a nice time golfing with my old league today, got lots of hugs and hellos and had a good time catching up with everyone. I'd still golf out there, but between the price of gas and the major upheaval on the main interchange downtown, it's just too far and too stressful to drive it. Nice luncheon too, they had a chicken salad plate with fruit and crudite's, hot bread baskets, and strawberry schaum torte for dessert. Hope DH isn't hungry..................LOL
Olivia celebrated my return home by climbing up on the window screen in the dinette....at about five feet off the floor, she looked down and decided that was much too high for her, and scooted herself back down. I'm sure she'll do it again.. I ran for the camera but didn't make it in time, got an interesting shot (not) of the ceiling.
Well, for the rained upon, I'll hope for sunnier weather, and for those who need rain, let's hope it goes in the right direction. Elaine, you shouldn't have to worry about the hosta, seems they can take an amazing amount of abuse, which in my case is a good thing!
I'm going to go stare inside the freezer and see if anything sings out to me "I'm ready to put in the microwave, take me take me!" I can dream can't I??
Later, ~~~~~ to those I've missed.
Sheila
Meeze,
I am afraid so won't even ask if my well can support sprinkling my plants etc. I didn't even think about the well, I expect my pump will poop out first.
We are lucky that this area is known for it's fresh water springs. You have heard of Zepher(sic) Hills Springs? The bottled water? They pumped that one dry. Wonder where they are getting it now?
Okay, I am working on putting more plants in that are xeri-friendly. Now that my wallet is thinner, it becomes a bit easier to resist all those pretty flowers.
Molly - small world - Hastings is just 20 some miles from us!! Been there often!! Cute town, but I've heard the people there are quite snooty...if you are not an 'old' family, they look down at you...Hope Jeremy has a great time - weather is supposed to be decent for Mich too. Those two weeks will fly by!! Where is he flying into? We live right by the Grand Rapids airport - in fact today a plane flew so low I thought it was going to land in the back yard. The military does a lot of touch downs there -they are fun to watch.
Folks came out and we had three wonderful chinese dinners...yum. Even have enough left over for DH to eat for lunch tomorrow. Played a game of scrabble - DM was ahead the whole game,but just at the end I got a huge pointer word and beat her!!!
DS brought over his boat and hooked it to the 5th wheel. If I remember, I'll snap a pic of the whole rig and you'll see why I am nervous about the whole situation!!
defoe- did you say you have one of those robo vaccuums? Let me know how it works if you have one. The bottom of our pool has gunk in it and DH doesn't like to vaccuum it. I plead ignorance- I do the house - I refuse to do the pool!!
Hope - frig looks well loved already. Put a video in for the kids.....you need some peace and quiet!!
Maria - next time you go to the store tell them what happened and take your receipt. I'd call them and tell them you would like to pick up some replacements the next time you're in.
Oh, I had a stinko thing happen today. I called the pharmacy and asked for a refill for my allergy tabs - said I would be in pick them up later. Well I went in and they couldn't find them - looked all over several times. Finally this older gal came out and the young girl asked her about them. She replied that they didn't have any. I was really ticked and asked why they hadn't called me - they knew I was coming in. She said they might have them tomorrow....grrrr we're leaving tomorrow. When I asked again why I wasn't notified = she replied in a nasty voice - ' we don't have time!' I again said - I would have appreciated a call - then I wouldn't have driven all the way in...I'm calling before I go tomorrow and will give the owner a piece of my mine (maybe....LOL) I think that policy is rotten - how long does it take to dial a number. And if they are out of that many meds that they can't call - perhaps they should look into ordering a bigger quantity...off my soap box now!
Well, off to check out chat!
Sarv,
Jeremy is flying into Detroit and then again out of Detroit when he comes home.
About the "snooty" people of Hastings. I have a feeling that it is really all of Barry County. The taxes are high so people have a tendancy to think that raises their own worth up to a loftier level.
I was born and raised in Battle Creek/Calhoun County. That county cannot even maintain their roads at a respectible level. The city roads are all a patchwork of repair. When you cross from Barry County into Calhoun in your car, the ride gets decidedly bumpier.
Oops, are you in Barry County too? uh oh. Although Jeremy's family lives in Hastings, their roots are not there, they are in Battle Creek.
Shoot, you might even know one or two of that family. They are scattered about the area. The Hricovsky's or VanZants. (Spelling probably not right)
Maybe I'll take a trip to chat. House is a recent re-run.
Sarv - you are absolutely right. If you phoned the pharmacy and asked for a refill, they should definitely have phoned you as soon as they knew they couldn't fill it right away. Go for it with the manager/owner. I think they owe you compensation for your time and gas. Is there an alternative pharmacy close to you?
Well, I'm going to wish you all a good night. Need to work a bit on the older computer and need to figure out which Chamber Music Festival concerts I want to volunteer at (end of July - beginning of August). I enjoy helping out and in some of the churches, volunteers can get into a spot which is cooler than being packed in with the rest of the audience. (Only 1 church has AC). Volunteer also sometimes get to talk with the musicians depending on what the volunteer job is. But I try to avoid being on the stage managing end of things if it involves shoving a piano around. Heas usher is a good job. You get to tell the other ushers what to do. LOL anyway, if I don't get my requests in soon, I won't get the concerts I want. BTw, this is the largest Chamber Music Festival in the world with 120 concerts in 15 days.
Hi everyone,
sarv, hope the camping trip is a lot of fun. Sorry for your run-in with the poor service pharmacy. Just one thing ----- don't know if blenders are any different these days, but I always used to make hummus in a blender as I never owned a food processor. Never had a problem with it.
Bonnie, sorry about the problem with your braces, at least it wasn't your tooth that broke after all. Also it didn't happen right in the middle of your vacation which would have been even worse. Hope your weather doesn't get too wild.
That brings me to you, I01! Those storms didn't sound like any fun at all ----with or without power outages! I think that I've been terrified of lightning ever since about 1st grade or so when one of my classmates proudly related in the "show and tell" period how lightning had killed two cows on his uncle's farm. That was the first time I realized just how dangerous that stuff was and it's stuck with me ever since. Hope you get some more of the needed rain without the fireworks!
V-ann, checked out your hosta trip link and found that the hosta I got at the NE roundup was probably "Fire and Ice". Glad you had such a good time.
M5, managed to open the download of "Sammi the Great" on my computer at work. It looked like he was the only one who really got into playing with that feather toy. I think it was Mini (but not entirely sure) ---- at least one of the others struck me as not so much interested in playing as interested in staying out of the way so that she wouldn't end up as a landing mat or launching pad.
hope, so glad that you got a refrigerator! I can't imagine being without one, especially in this kind of heat. I think I may have missed something way back --- how did you end up with five hoodlums to look after anyway?
Molly, may you thoroughly enjoy a period of peace and quiet and refreshing solitude (not loneliness!). I'm not sure that I've ever managed to handle absolute solitariness for any length of time and kind of worry about how I'll handle it if it happens.
Maria, now I see the benefits of the Earth Box system! My squash plants haven't even thought about blossoming yet, never mind producing squash of harvestable size. Hope you really enjoy it. Hope you manage to stay dry. I do feel as though I'm about to sprout mushrooms! My poor garden is suffering and the worst of it at the moment is that something seems to be eating through the stems of what I hoped were Oriental Poppies just before the buds are ready to open. I can't even try to spray them all with Neem as the rain just washes it all away.
Thanks to araness for starting us off this morning.
Hi to corky, suzieq, and dmcd. My sympathies to those of you who are sharing this rotten weather pattern.
News on this end ---- I actually surprised myself and managed to get all the roundup plants into the ground yesterday. I sure hope that they all take, but I'm also thinking that that's about the end of what I could trade for or buy as there simply isn't any more room here where there's any sun to speak of and I think that we even have enough of the shade plants now too. Unless we suffer a massive die-off there's just no room for anything more.
The mosquitos here are absolutely horrendous. I can't even think about taking a garden walk in the morning (if I have a spare five minutes before I have to head to work) or in the evening when I get home, unless I'm willing to practically bathe in bug repellent first.
Okay, enough of kvetching! Hope you all have lovely, peaceful nights and great tomorrows!
Hi all
Just a quick check in before I go and start the daily.
Mccool ... sounds like your yard is beginning to look like mine with all your plants. LOL I don't think I've got anymore room to put anything else either.
Defoe, so glad to hear you didn't break a tooth afterall. Oh, and those garden veggies sure did sound good. Would have loved to had some of your supper. Too bad I don't live close enough to just drop in. LOL
Maria ... did you eat your zuchini for supper tonight? Is it still raining up there?
sarv, am waving to you and wishing you a wonderful time on your trip. Y'all be careful driving and stay safe. Hope you get your RX filled, also.
Twyla, hope you survived the kids today. :-)
Well, forgive me for not speaking to everyone. I think I'll post the daily as CRS has set in for the night. Hope everyone has a good night's sleep.
~Elaine~
