Best trellis ever

San Francisco, CA

I found this heavy duty tomato cage today at the local nursery. It's four and a half feet tall, has four rings and four legs, and the metal must be 1/8 inch thick, its incredibly sturdy. I just put two of them into 6 inch pots of magnifica and calycina, vigorous growers both. I stuck them into the soil as is, and although they are a little top-heavy, I put the plastic pot down into a heavy clay pot to keep it from "accidentaly" tipping over. By accidentaly I mean cats, of course. It cost $5, which when all is said and done is about half the money and trouble of plasticizing the ends of bamboo U's and rigging them up. Looks very modern as opposed to the more tropical looking bamboo, and I'm speculating that the vines might twine around it easier as it is a good bit thinner than the large bamboo U's. Only drawback, don't even thing about cutting it without a hacksaw.

Great idea, Mark! Thanks!

Wow...that's a good idea too. That is going to be one massive plant after it fills it up.
I love the picture. One can see the "San Francisco slope" to the street.

Love the plants and those large windows!

Great idea, Mark! I have a few monster epi's rigged up like that.

Your "mountainous" street outside looks strange to me. How the heck do you drive on that stuff? Bet no one drives a stick shift.

Houston and surrounding area is flat as a pancake...

Oh for the day I have someone BIG enough for that type of trellis :)
Right now I don't have anyone close!

But hopefully some day :)
I did get the cute little trellises from ebay that I paid 2.25 for.

I am in the "gated fencing" mode...I really like the trellises they make. The tomato cages are also neat...and I have some monster hoyas on them...

So many ideas...so little time.....

If you have any smaller ones, You incredible hoya mommy! Yours are MONSTERS!

Ok...I think this is the place. If you scroll down you will find several varieties of trellises she sells. Most are small, but would be fine for small plants. There is one that is fairly large & appears similar to the ones made from the fencing sections, only decorated with cute little thingys. I ended up getting a couple too. Ha.

woops...that doesn't totally work either. You must click on "crafts/hobbies" on the left side from there to see the trellises.
