More First Blooms!!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I have a few Plumies blooming for the first time.
We had plenty of sun and heat but noone woke up till the sky darkened and opened up on us LOL!!
We are under torrential rains right now.
As heavy as any hurricane ever brought us.
I had to bring all my cacti and some of my plumies inside.
I wanted to keep my blooming plumies going so I brought them inside lol!!
But anyway here are the gals!!
This is Paulas Slaughter Pink.

Here is Princess Victoria
My camera is a cheapie and on its way out
The blooms are so much more colorful and prettier in person.
It figures I have another sinus infection so no scents for me.... >:^(
But im not stuffed up!! LOL!! My ENT said he did give me a nose job while he was in there.
He corrected my deviated septum.
So while I may get sinus infections I shouldnt blockup like I had been.
However... I cant smell my babies!!!!!

I have had a lot of inflos that failed over the winter.
I managed to get this gal into the sun just in time.

They are available from Brad, 'Ncasselberryfla'
He has a website.
http://www.bradsbudsandblooms.com/
I reccomend him as highly as I could anyone
I have bought many many plants from him over the last close to 2 years
It is always a pleasure and a good deal, with outstanding personal service.
Brad stands behind everything he sells.
I hope youll check out his website.
There are so many awesome photos
I was led to my adenium addiction by his alluring photos LOL!!
Have you ever heard of 'The call of the Sirens'? Greek mythology.
Well thats what Brads photos did to me.
I can't get enough adeniums or Australian / Thailand Plumies
Im on my 4th mortgage now..... Just Kidding LOL!!
Go see his site for a real treat in the flower kingdom!!
And please by all means, Let me know what you think!

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Malestrom, I think I'm gonna have to get some of the Australian and Thailand Plumies also. I didn't see the Adenium's that I liked for sale on his website. I guess he's either out or they are too special to sell. I liked Black Ruby and Muang Toung Thong. I am soo runnin out of room!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I think a lot of times He has so much stuff come in shipments that its a little too much to get everything up on the site.
If you dont see what you want please ask him.
I have asked several times for things I was sure he was out of.
He has taken care of my every request. ;^)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Great. I'll ask about them. Thanks

Leander, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay, between my new book contact and your pictures, I'm more excited than ever to get started in the world of plumies!

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Oh Malestrom - what an incredible website you shared! I checked it out - hard to see everything through my own drooling, though! Who needs a retirement plan when there's plummies to buy!! Thanks for the suggestion! Karen

Beautiful plumies, Michael! I'm so thrilled that you have blooms! Yay! Congratulations! I know how hard you have worked, taking care of all your babies and keeping them going through the winter. You colder climate growers really impress me with your growing skills. So sorry to hear about your sinus infection. I hope it clears up fast. That is great that you had your D.S. fixed. I know people who have had that done, and it is really helpful.

I totally agree with Michael about Brad's plants. They are awesome! Brad is such a good guy too. I think that he will be getting in more of the Muang Toung Thong, but I don't know about the Black Ruby. I'm sure he'll respond to you if you shoot him an email.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

If im not blocked Id rahter shake it naturally
takes about 10 days. ;^)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Just don't let it get really bad!!! I completely understand the avoiding of meds...do it myself...but you don't want it to get out of hand either...esp. with have surgery so recently.

Mrs. Lanna decided to open a little today
She has a red back
The inside has red on the outside edge leading in in a round spoon shape 1/2 way to the center.
The center has an orange flare and there is some white too.
She is only about 1/4 open just yet and I aint forcing her lol!
Here she is.

On average, how long would you say it takes to get blooms from a cutting? Does keeping it in a heated grhouse help to increase the time to bloom? Or do they want a dormant period? Thanks

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

tiger...sometimes blooms come from a cutting before they even root...they do need bottom heat.. and most plumies do go dormant...ck out www.plumeria101.com...really helpful

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Tigerlily, be sure to check out the FAQ's too as well as Plumeria101. A cutting taken from a flowering tree will flower right away in the spring, summer, or fall given the right amount of light, water, and fertilizer. A seedling takes three years on average to flower from seed.

Bob, your link didn't work probably because of the dots after 101.

Congrats, Michael! She's a beauty!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I believe the sticky answers the general questions.

Hijacking my own thread back here..........

This is my most exciting moment to date!!
All of the work in raising seedlings. feeding them, watering them, giving heat and light in winter time and special chemical mixtures
It all comes to the highlight of the moment when she opens her first buds!!
Ive already had offers for cuttings!! WOOT!!
I wont cut her till she blooms her 3rd full cycle.
But man this is a rush!!
She was planted on January 19th 2005
She is 19.5 months old. no record for a first bloom but not too bad either!!
WOO-HOO!!

Edited to correct date to 2005

Michael, she is a real beauty. Congrats on all your hard work. Enjoying the fruits of your labor feels so good, doesn't it? Ya done good! By the way, if she was planted on January 19, 2004, then she has to be older than 19.5 months old; right? I counted 29 months, but I could be wrong. My 40 seedlings were also planted at around the same time: December, 2003, so mine are about the same age as yours. I've only had three of them bloom so far, and I hope I get to see a few more bloom this summer. I hope they are as spectacular as your Lanna.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

LOL!
I meant 2005!
OOPSIES!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Michael,
What is the name of that one? Wow! She is so pretty!!!! How would you describe the scent?

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

WOW.. I'm impressed..Very nice coloration on it! How nice to have blooms that soon from seeds! I have one that is 3 years old and still not a sign of it wanting to bloom. BTW.. I like the muted colors of Paula's Slaughter Pink.. very nice, and the scent??

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I don't think Slaughter Pink has much of a scent. That is why I've never purchased one. Everyone raves about the fact that SP is a good grower and an excellent bloomer, but I think most have said that it only has a slight scent.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

My Paulas Slaughter Pink has a very mild scent.
I have since developed a sinus infection so I cant smell my new baby. dangit!
Micah says she smells spicy but mild.
I have yet to name her.
Ill wait untill the first true bloom before deciding what to christen her.
I bought Paulas Slaughter pink as she has been reported to be quite different from regular Slaughter pinks.
I have a collection of about 9 different pinks, I do love them.
They seem to bloom quite frequently and heavily.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

oh.. well then I won't add PSP to my wish list. Scent is just as important to me as looks.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Me too, Trish. That's why I'll never own a P. pudica!

Michael, is Paula's Slaughter Pink a hybrid or seedling of the cultivar Slaughter Pink? I didn't realize that it was different from the well-known SP.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Clare, I had a P. pudica.. gave it away just for that reason!! LOL

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Great minds...LOL!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Sorry Ladies,
You are breaking my heart.
I cant imagine giving away my Pudica!
She has the most unique leaves, arrow shaped.
She grows and tolerates bad conditions like no other plumie I know.
She does indeed 'lack' in the scent department,
However there is no other plumie as reliable for blooms or growth.
She never gives a dissapointing season.
In my garden where every plant is unique,
She stands alone for her non stop pleasing boquets of flowers.
I can always count on seeing white flowers on her tall long lankey branches.
Every garden guest asks, 'what is that over there? Ive never seen leaves like that before!'
I am proud to own her, I love her and pined for her before aquiring her.
She is one of a kind.
Her scentlessness is a blessing to me as she never irritates my allergies.
Id gladly take in any and all rejected P.Pudicas
Im gonna go give her a hug now.. ya a wet smoochy too!! LOL 8^D

Edited to add : She was only 18 inches last summer when I bought her, she is now almost 4 foot tall. ;^)
