Golden and Glossy Abelia Training?? what to do?

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

i have fallen in love with golden abelia....and glossy abelia is great too!!! both shrub has these long shoots 12 -18 inches that are growing away from the plant....i don't want to cut...do you train your abeilia?? do you support those shoots with something?? and if so with what??

Generally, I cut those long shoots off. It makes a fuller plant. But Glossy Abelia may behave a little differently for you in TX.

Those shoots root fairly easily. Each year I strike cuttings from these shoots and generate some new plants.
