crow....never seen varigated abelia...i have 2 kinds here ....glossy and golden abelia....and i do love them....so hold me back!!!! if i see variegated i may have to have it too!!

on the polka plant....it is my understanding that it puts out lots of seeds.....is that your experience?? i planted some in the ground in hopes that it will throw seed b4 it freezes....as you can tell i know little about plants....so i guess the great question is....when do they throw seed?? i do think it is too cold here but i may try to mulch to see if that will help....other wise i have a million of them that i am bringing in to grow for the winter....how much sun do you give yours?? i have all of mine in shade....but would like to put them in beds that get about one to 2 hours of sun....would that be too much?? also do yours wilt in the sun....mine do....

do you have pics of your garden....love to look!!!

Sticks, I do have pics. A lot of individual plants are shown in my journal and a lot showing the larger landscape are on this link

As to the polka dot, it does fine in full sun or shade. I've had them in both and the color is better in shade. Two hours of sun would be fine on them. I've never let mine go to seed because when they send up the little scraggly looking blooms, I trim them off. If yours make seed, let me know if the plants come back true to the parent. I've seen them sold as house plants, so if you don't get seed, dig up a clump and bring it in for winter, or muchl heavy and see how it goes. Mine have withstood several pretty hard freezes, but it never stays below freezing for very long here.

oh wow...i have read your other thread....so cool !!! and you do have lovely gardens.!!!!

as for polka...i have about 5 pots i will bring in....and i am also trying the seeding thing and mulch....so come next year i can tell you what happened...i love the polka also and since i am all shade these isn't alot of selections with regards to plants i like....so polka, caladiums, abelia, some salvias or sages, .....i was killing impatiens ....but someone told me i was probably not watering enuf....so next year i will try impatiens again....begonias, and of course my new stuff in the new beds.....we shall see what happens

are the purple things in the pic with the tree....purple knights....that is the same that i have in the bed above and i am so loving them

in your front bed by the house...it that mainly abelias?? ....i luv them:)

Sticks, sorry, more to add, go to the plantfiles and search abelia. Check out the 'Kaleidoscope', and "Sunrise" cultivars. I'm thinking I have to have one of those. Abelias root extremely easy from cuttings, so if I find one, I'll be happy to root you a cutting. I haven't seen any at the local nurseries, so I may have to try mail order to locate one.

SnS I don't have a Sutherland's anywhere near me. :( That sounds like a good price for the size of the Abelia plants. I will probably have to order mine online.
