A tree to drool over

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Well, at least for some people. The Juniperus rigida 'Pendula' at Rice Creek Gardens, MN.

Hi Rick,

I make a point to look at it every time I visit there. What will become of it with them moving the operation south?

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL! That tree looks like my red cedars after an ice storm.

Apparently it is too much to try to move it to Spring Grove (the new location). Harvey tells me they are going to move it to Lyndale Park, on the north side of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis.

Elburn, IL(Zone 5a)

No drool here--that's "U-G-L-Y, you ain't got no alibi, you's ugly"

Well Guy, maybe it's a good thing they didn't have any grafts of this very pendulous form. It would weep even more where you are.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree with Kevin - that IS ugly! To me, there is a line weepers cross that brings them from elegant, flowing, waterfall-like beauties to stupid looking atrocities that looked like they were hacked up by some chainsaw wielding lunatic.

lol that tree looks like I had some time with it pruning it with a chain saw....

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

The pendulous branches have of course evolved to shed all the drool . . .

Though how you drool over the top of it, I don't know (and don't wan't to know, either!)

It's pretty extreme, alright. Reminds me a lot of that Green Arrow Xanthocyparis cultivar. But look at that central leader maintain without staking. Many pendulous trees can't claim that advantage.

I expect mine to arrive here in about a week -- a friend picked it up for me at Foxwillow. I guess we'll see what that one looks like!
