Ohhhhhh, yeahhhhhhh!
I just got my FedEx box from la Pimpette. I pretty much just can't stand myself right now!
Chasing tail, panting, drooling, chasing tail...wait, gotta get the box open ... gotta unwrap ... oh, HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!
OK, I have regained control over my body.
Here is what I have scored:
In the back row: H. macgillivrayi IML16, H. macrophylla IML 1181 (or, now to be called, H. tjadasmalanquensis), H. lamingtonii IML 70 (PNG-4)
In the front row (two each): H. vitellina, H. sp. Sulawesi
I'm such a lucky, lucky thing!!!
And, one nice thing about the Pimpette is that she correctly labels her plants - I saw a dealer selling what they are calling a "Hoya Sulawesii Plant" on ebay, so I contacted them, told them that it was most likely an H. incurvula and gave them the web address of where this plant was discussed (with photographs) on the PS The Hoyan website. They replied back that their dealer calls it a "Sulawesii" and so they call it a "Sulawesii." Apparently it doesn't matter if the label is wrong.
So a big High-Five to the Pimpette for being an honest and careful dealer!!!!
Piggishly yours,
Ann
This little piggy scored a huge haul from the Pimpette!
I know just how you feel! Beautiful plants and can't wait for your bloom photos!
Speaking of, I just got home from Circuit City with the camera you have. I appriciate you letting us know which one you use cuz your photos are wonderful!
Now if my plants will bloom I can try it out. -joanne
OK, so can folks tell me how they get theirs to grow???
Thanks
Ann
Thanks Joanne! I hope it works for you as good as it does for me!
FYI, the set-up that I use to get the close-up shots is in setting on the top dial that has "my" in a box (it's the "My Mode" setting).
Below are the settings I have for "my mode 1":
ESP - set on the icon of the box with the dot in the middle
Supermacro - the icon with the flower and the letter s
ISO - 100
Timer - on
Flash - off
AF Mode - SPOT
Focus Mode - AF
F-Stop - 8.0
I always use RAW or SHQ for the card settings, even though it sucks a lot of the memory in the card up. I do this because it gives you really large picture files that you can "tweak." And, I always use a tripod to get the best focus.
For everything else, the SCENE selection on the top dial offers a really nice range of settings to choose from - including my favorite - image stabilization.
I can't wait to see what you do!!

MsKitty, you are too funny!!
I am printing that off! Thank you so much! Bid e-hug from the beaver zone -joanne
My best results come from "BOB....can you take a good close up of......... PLEASE....the ladies are waiting".....

Ok, I'm new here - so who's the Pimpette? They look like the awsome plants I've gotten from Carol... And if it IS Carol, ya gotta tell me the story behind the nickname!
Denise in Omaha
OK, true confession time. I also went out and bought the Olympus SP320 after seeing Ann's photos.
Now mind you, I have a Nikon D-70 with multiple lenses, including a fancy micro lens. Gotta get the tripod, sucker is heavy and complicated....
I think DH did something "man stupid" that day giving me frivilous justification for making the purchase. You see, women can be "man stupid" too if pushed far enough!
Have been practicing with the new easy shoot Olympus but not getting the photo quality Ann is.
So, thanks for the hints on how you are setting up!

Oh...HEY DENISE...good to see ya in here. I read your posts all the time on the GW.
You will love it in here. Friendly bunch of "hoya addicts" with lots of info & gorgeous photos.
Yes....the Pimpette IS Carol. Ha. It is just a running joke that got started with us teasing her about tricking us into staying obbsessed with her lovely hoyas. (wish I could find that old thread).
I guess we are just going to have to quit calling her that least she get a "reputation" or something. Ha Ha. It IS confussing to the newbies here, huh?
So....In the meantime... real back posts & ask away on any questions. We are a kind and happy group of hoya lovers here.
Marcy
Hey Ms. Kitty Kat congrats on your new additions. Sadly I must say I have found a new "hoya pimp" that has promised to keep my hoya addiction going!
Blessings,
Awanda
Ooooh, right on Awanda ... now you can always remain "fallen off the wagon" (lol)
Ann
A tripod....that's what I need!!
I'm gonna try to get me one next weekend.
Nice haul!!
I got a box last week, and mine included the 't' word hoya, (lol!) too, and one that is nearly a twin to it, foliage-wise.
(I like that BOLD-makes-a-statement-in-itself foliage!)
Though I don't really know you, Denise, I do recall seeing you 'over there' and am also happy to see you here! Welcome!!
I don't recall who, exactly started that 'pimpette' business....Awanda, maybe?
Nonethless, it stuck!

Ann, great score. Lovely looking plants!

Ann-I know you have posted this...but is your camera a Canon PowerShot S1 3.2 megapixels. If so...I can learn more about mine from you, too!!!
Sorry, Carol. Mine's an Olympus SP-320 with 7.1 megapixels.
I had to buy a cheapie (although I am pleased with the close-up capacity) because I buy too many darned hoyas! (LOL)
