It's funky time...

Leonotis leonurus
Lion's Tail
Wild Dagga
It just too funky and cool

Didn't get much bloom out of it last year.
But it's promising to strut it's stuff this year.

That's cool! That's right up my Brother and Sis n Law's alley! Looks kinda tropical.

It does, doesn't it?
It's really a drought tolerant saliva.
I got it last year at the round up
(From DrDon, who is a saliva lovin' fool)

You're going to the round up right?

hiya dovey,

Looks great! Your's are a bit ahead of mine which are promising to be in bloom for the roundup. I noticed that there are several people offering this plant on their trade lists so I decided not to propagate any this season. I'm also growing Leonotus nepetifolia this year to see what it looks like, but the L.l. is growing nicely behind the bench in the Hacienda Garden and should be showing off in a fun way with its' funky flowers when you're here for the roundup.

Lamiaceae forever!...lol,

Hey Don,
You've converted me.
I just ordered a small batch of Salvias from Mountain Valley Growers.
There are a few I haven't seen on your list and if you don't have I'll be happy to bring you a cutting.
Salvia Buchananii Velvet Sage & Salvia Grahammii Maraschino Cherry Salvia

hiya dovey,

I've got S. buchananii and it's a beaut! You'll love it. I don't have S. grahammii, but have seen it and it is another really spectacular one. I think I might try my hand at collecting a few Plectranthus next season as they are really discovering this genus in a big way. Several people are already collecting it and in the past I couldn't get around the 'creeping charlie' factor as that stuff was everywhere when I was a kid growing up in a hippie house. Now it seems as though Plectranthus has grown out of the sixties and they've discovered some amazing species. Just don't exactly know how heat tolerant they'll be here. Now if I could just shed the middle name 'Moonbeam'.....lol, I'd be much more comfortable collecting them.

best to you,
don

Talk to Janice -- some are darned tolerant. I had P.argentus and gave it very little water once established (of course, I do have somewhat more 'marine effect' and moisture in air than you do).

You're serious about your middle name??? You must be about 10 years younger than I am.

Yeah and your sister's middle name is Moonshadow, right? *LOL*

I love funky and fun, great conversation plants in the garden!
Here's my spiral foliage on the voodoo lily, no bloom yet, second year in the garden. Not sure I really want that bloom anyways! LOL but I love it for the foliage and the stem.
