I want to make sure I'm growing the right MG's.
I have had this one a couple of yrs now and it's labeled Grandpa Ott. Is it?

What do I have?

I very rarely see any of the original type Granpa Ott's,since it apparently gets lost from cross fertilizing with the vast amount of Ipomoea purpureas being grown in this country...it was originally described as being open pollinated stable, but apparently not...
The Grandpa Ott's should have a fuchia star and alot of very distinctive fuchia both(!) down into the tube and around the entire throat area... the current JUNG seed catalog is depicting an Ott's,but as to whether the seed supplied will actually match the advertisement pictorial is a gamble/toss up...
The Star of Yelta also easily blends with the plethora of blueish/purple Ipomoea purpureas...The Kniolas, which is the darkest of the Ipomoea purpureas, will still look very(!) dark even at noontime in the direct sun...no early morning 'mist' or lighting tricks necessary...
TTY,...
Ron
Wow... I got a lot of info there and I thank you Ron. So I am assuming I have neither one then. I'll just call them good old purple generic MG which is good enough for this country gal- lol!
Thanks!
