First Asiatic to Bloom

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I've been waiting through March, April, May and half of June, and here's my first Stones. I thought it was going to be "deep raspberry!" Well, I changed the color scheme on my balcony so the orange goes better with what I have now. I'm THRILLED...and many more on the way.

I'm so glad you finally have lilies to share!

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

How long have you had these in pots? Do you just leave them out during the winter?

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I treat them as annuals, 'cause I want to plant fall things when the lilies are done. But I could just as well leave them in the pots, they'd come back next year. One year I did winter over some Jet Set dwarf Orientals, and they came back just fine. But in Columbia Heights (my home town is St. Paul) they may need winter protection, putting them in a garage or something.

Judith, that lily is definitely not Stones.

However, it sure is a pretty one.

I had purchased Stones from Van Engelen two years ago, and when they bloomed some were Stones, some were orange. I got the orange ones replaced by sending them a picture. They told me there were a lot of Stones that were mixed up by their supplier that year.

But I do like the orange ones I received also. And I do like the Stones, which is a deep rasberry pink, so it was a win win situation for me.

Thanks, Polly. I'm going to see if John Scheepers won't replace them. As I said, I don't mind because of this year's colors, but I really did want Stones. Do you have any photos of what they look like in the garden??

Yup!

Actually here are the pictures I sent to Van Engelen.

Both were supposed to be 5 of Stones.

The raspberry colored ones are actually Stones. But see the buds in the one that hasn't opened yet are orange, and here is the orange one I received. In fact I purchased 25 Stones, and 13 were orange. This was Fall 2004. I had purchased 5 Stones Fall 2003, and they were so pretty I ordered the 25.

Did you know Van Engelen and Scheepers are sister companies?

You should get a refund. They were actually very nice about it.

By the way, I was just looking thru my lily pictures last week, and wondering why on earth I kept the pictures of those clashing lilies. LOL

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

It does bite at the eyes a bit. :)

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL! They DO clash!

I did know Van Engelen and Scheepers are owned by the same people. If I had a regular garden I'd be buying from Van Engelen, but I'd go broke! I asked if they would replace them this fall. I had Salsa last year, and these orange ones are a similar color. I was wanting to change it this year. I'll just have to wait for Stones next year. They ARE beautiful.

Here's a pic of Salsa from last year, much bigger than "Stones" this year.

Those colors make for one 'hot' garden. :)

Now, Moby behave!

And I'll have you know they were divided up, however they had set so many new bulbs, they were all hanging together, so I am anticipating a likewise clash this year from some of the little ones. It may be a signature in my garden. Gee Salsa would fit right in. That is a really pretty one though.

Behave? Why would I want to start at this point in my life? ;)

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I got a nice email back from Scheepers. The Customer Service rep said the same thing happened to her a few years ago. She suggested I not order Stones again, but offered to replace them with Fangio (or give me a credit on my next order). Anybody know anything about them? They're an LA.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I don't know personally, but boy, is it hot pink! Scroll down about half way http://www.thelilygarden.com/pages_lilies/easter_1.html

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I have Fangio, but can't find my picture, and don't recall it really being that bright. However it is slightly fragrant. I like it and think it would be a good replacement.

Here's the pic from Scheepers. Polly, does yours look like that? The photo at Lily Garden is BRIGHT!!

Yes, actually looks quite a bit like Stones. That picture is more what mine looks like than the Lily Garden one (surprisingly)

Here's a picture from where I bought Fangio (where i buy most of my bulbs, and have never had one that was not correct)--Ednie/ Wooden Shoe Bulb Farm.

Mine I think is just a little darker, but it is in quite a bit of shade.

Hi there...I have Fangio and it's almost as bright at the Lily Garden photo...a real hot pink....not like the reddish maroon one...it's a good choice. Tyke

Tyke, is yours in the shade like Polly's? Mine would get mostly shade, some early morning and late afternoon sun, but that's all.
