Elm question now-beetles?

Somerville, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi again
I have now discovered that there is another tree growing in my back yard---it's also on the border and not in a good spot if it gets huge, I thought it was a weed but it has now gotten to be above second floor height (you can see I'm behind on my weeding!) and I noticed it looks more like a tree than a weed, and from looking around it seems it is some type of Elm tree. if it keeps growing it is going to throw shade on my back deck (and possible branches too) that I use to grow flowering plants and things that need a lot of sun ---I wonder if an arborist could help me manage it so i could keep it--but do I want to?
I also noticed today that there is something funny on a lo t of the leaves---almost looks like berries but I think is is some kind of cocooon. is this the beetle that carries dutch elm disease? whitish -yellowish cocoon things that are rising UP off of the leaves.
the leaves are green, but the baby leav es are red tinted. thanks if you can help me!

First we need to identify your tree, then identify the "cocoon-things" on it (they probably are leaf galls, and the tree might be a hackberry or something else other than an elm). Can you post a detailed photo showing a twig with a couple of cocoon-infested leaves?
