What's wrong with my lily?

Monroe, WA

I'm a new member and this is my first post :)

Can somebody please tell me what's wrong with this lily? The leaves are turning brown from the ground up. Do I need to water it more? Or is this something else?

And lastly, what's the name of this lily?

Thanks much.

Hi aelana ~ welcome to DG and the Lily forum. Looks like you have a botrytis fungal problem that needs to be treated very soon. Here is some info: http://www.plantlilies.com/read/botrytis.html

Did your lily have a name when you bought it? It looks a lot like my Desert Song.

that is a beautiful display. i just bought my first bulbs and know very little about lilies. i'm very new to this fourm too, but don't worry these people are the best! i love the way the lilies look in mass. to get that many flowers, how many bulbs did you have to plant? if i'm seeing it correctly, each stalk has several flowers. does the number of blooms vary depending on the type?

wow...thanks for asking that...my garden party orientals are blooming and they are so big and pretty...no brown leaves as in your picture...however...the buds have a problem and it looks like something on the stem...went to the above recommended site...and darn sure...there were my buds....going to mix up some soap and soda today....thanks

Moby - do u know if the baking soda recipe works on phlox too?

I understand that a lot of people use it successfully ~ soda is drying thereby spoiling the environment that fungus likes. But I'm not the most conscientious gardener ~ I whip out the chemicals whenever needed.

yeah, me too. :) thanks, one phlox looks awful, rest are ok. better do some googling before i lose it.

Thank you very much for the replies!

Moby, thank you for the link. I will start treating it tomorrow.

Moby/AshleyKelley, I bought my lilies last year at Costco and it didn't have a name tag on them (I just took it because I like the orange flowers). That said, I didn't know how many bulbs were planted. There were 5 stalks so I'd assume that there were 5 bulbs. Am I correct? AshleyKelley, you were seeing correctly. Each stalks has about at least 10 buds. I don't know if this is normal or not, but I love them :->

Thanks again,
Aelana
