Shrub Rose 'Kaleidoscope'
Beautiful ! How do you keep it so gorgeus and fresh ?
Adina
I need to see this beauty in person. Funny, I think the cover of Western Garden Book, last edition, is this rose but it is not the rich deep tones of yours, Jamie.

Kell it sure does look like it, doesn't it? Jamie that is one gorgeous rose! The area that you live in allows you to grow so many more things than I can grow, or grow well here.
Hi there Adina, Kell, and April ~~
Thank-you all for the kind words!! Adina, I use alfalfa tea and Messenger on my roses and it really does keep them pepped up and looking nice and fresh. I am really seeing good results on all my roses, and haven't sprayed chemicals at all this season. Oh, and kell - I think you are right about that rose on the cover.....It really does look like Kaleidoscope, and I had never noticed it before. I have the book on my shelf and use it often.....good eye kell!! April ~~ I really do love living here....the Pacific Northwest is truly a wonderful place to live, and garden, and of all the places I have lived and visited I really do love it here the best! Although my Dad's family is all from Texas and he sure does speak fondly of it!! I hope to see some of your state someday....What zone are you in there?? It isn't in the margin there under your city and state.....
Thanks all of you for sharing this rose with me!! It isn't terribly fragrant, but I wouldn't be without it in my garden!! I just love that little bloom factory! Every day those blooms look different....I go out with my coffee every morning and walk in the garden....and I always go and check this rose. :-) A great start to my day, always!!
Jamie
Another gorgeous picture, Jamie. I love my early mornings too in the garden, when it is so crisp.
Jamie I am in 9b- terribly hot in the summer w/ high humidity- we have nice long growing seasons because of generally wonderfull fall and warm springs but the heat and intensity of the sun are brutal on most plants.
Thanks, Jamie, but can you tell me is this alfalfa tea just a tea like in "tea"for drinking ? Also, don't know what is Messenger, sorry !
Can you please, clear it up for me ? I am in a different part of the world, far away and haven't got the same products!Thank you !
Adina
Lovely Jamie...so I had to look at your other images here on DG to see what other beauties you've shared. They are all so lovely and the photo composition is great too.
...I think you must have one of my dream gardens. *-}
Hi Adina!
One of the things I love most about Dave's Garden is getting to discuss gardening with people living so far away from me!!! And you definitely qualify as someone gardening in a completely different place.. :-) I would love to see pictures of your garden if you have them to post!
Alfalfa tea is an organic product made just like tea to drink....except in a 5 gallon bucket of water and using alfalfa pellets &/or alfalfa meal as the "tea bag". It is a wonderful foliar spray for plants, giving them a big boost with many growth stimulating properties as well as a mild fertilizer. I use it on everything - my roses especially love the alfalfa!! Messenger is a new product here in the US, and is quite a break-through in plant care. It is not a fertilizer, but a protein that once mixed with water and sprayed on the foliage of a plant, stimulates the plants own immune system making the plant more vigorous, better able to resist bacterial and fungal diseases as well as insect attacks. It is truly amazing what using Messenger can do for a plant! It just isn't like anything else out on the market, and is the way of the future, I feel. I wish I could send you some so you could try it, but I bet sending little packets of powder to a different country isn't very well received these days....
April~~ Zone 9b has just a super long growing season doesn't it?? My father's family is from Texas and his Mom was an avid gardener.....she would talk about gardening 10 months of the year.....but those summers must be cookers!! LOL :-) I bet everything just stops growing actively and just settles in for a long, hot period..but your Fall season must be wonderful!
Kell~~ My morning walks around the garden is truly my favorite time of the day! Checking everything, seeing what new blooms are going to open that day, noting any plant that needs my attention that evening after work....just me, a cup of coffee, the birds and my plants....I just love that time of day!
Have a Great Father's Day......
Jamie
Hi Tiffanya~~
Thank-you for the kind words, and nice to meet you!! I love meeting a fellow Washingtonian - where exactly is Sumner?? If you are ever here in the Vancouver area...or passing through on the way south to Portland, OR please stop by and we'll do the garden-talk and walk-thru thing!! :-)
Thanks again for the very nice comments, and for allowing me to share my garden photos - don't ya just love Dave's Garden??!! :)
Jamie
