globalization

I doubt our gardens will be much changed by this continuing trend of globalization, but I have lots of concerns. Have you?

I think there is definitely cause for concern. We have already seen so many negative effects that globalization has had on the world. So many plant, animal, and human diseases which were previously contained to a specific area have become a global concern. I'm not saying that globalization is all bad, but along with the positive it creates a whole new set of issues that must be dealt with in order to make the good outweigh the bad. The genetic engineering of plants is a concern of mine. I am glad to see that other countries are rejecting genetically engineered food and hope that we in the U.S. (land of the free?) will someday be able to make that choice also.

I worry about globalization alot. I feel it has potential to become an out of control trend of "corporatization". Our culture of consumption is being introduced to far too many other cultures, as if it is the best and only way to live. Just because we live a particular way does not mean it is the best way and I really don't think that our way of life should be thrust upon others. Is it globalization or Americanization?

Sort of like the Pax Romana or the sun never set on the British Empire? Didn't work then either.

My big concern with globalization is economic: industrialized nations already have a stranglehold over differently developped countries. I'm fearful that this summit will do nothing but legitimize it, with some token environmental and poverty action to mask it.
