I was standing under a large crape myrtle today to try to cool off and I noticed something like rain drops on my face and arms. I first thought it might be coming a shower but then noticed it was coming from the tree. Could it be the secretions from aphids? It was so heavy I could actually see it falling. I have read about crape myrtle aphids before, but have never seen them.
Aphid dew?
I've had the aphids themselves fall on me out of a heavily infested tree once, but didn't notice any honeydew or anything else besides the bugs themselves. Aphids do LOVE crape myrtles so it wouldn't surprise me if it was related to them in some way, but for the honeydew to actually be falling out of the tree onto you I think it would have to be a really huge infestation!
When we were kids we would crawl up in our maple trees and climb on a branch over the road and spit on cars. Hee Hee Were there any giggles?
At least you didn't drop bricks from overpasses like kids do now!

Growing up, we lay on the ground under the crepe myrtles to get "rained on." Now, you tell me it is "aphid dew"---eeewwww.
Oh, can't everyone just picture that refined suthrn lady getting rained on by bug pee? Bless her heart!
Hee-hee-hee!!!!!
