Huckuntod .... Your post really clears up my confusion over this one. Whew!
After doing a Dr. Seuss search I found the same orange color and points in some pictures. Yellow and long points in others. And I know from growing my own Seuss in the past that it can have both smooth edged and serrate leaves. Grimaldi can have both too. This has confused growers about the differences between Grimaldi and Seuss for so long. Sure wish my Dr. Seuss flowers had turned that color orange in my environment when I grew it.
And it also answers my question about why the small growers link didn't mention that they had been growing the wrong Hetty Krauss all along or why they think Grimaldi is superior. In my past environment Grimaldi was superior to Seuss too. I'm feeling more confident that llie is correct about his Hetty Krauss/Dr. Seuss id. It's just in a different environment
So interesting what brugs do in different environments.
I saw the coolest brug yesterday.
Well now ... ! There's a definite difference in the calyx of llies pics. Definitely not the same calyx we see in Seuss or Grimaldi. They have many splits not just one. Kyle was right about the aurea influence. edited to say: versicolor is normally split once. Maybe this has versicolor influence too .... back to square one. Throwing hands up and surrender. lol!
I think it would be wonderful if llies does turn out to be the real Hetty. Still don't understand why those guys took it upon themselves to rename her. If Hetty was my mom or sister or even a friend I'd be irritated lol!

No Tonny, they are from different brugs but in the same place, a huge Arboretum. There are about 4 different yellow brugs there that I saw. Only one had blooms like my first pictures.
But Huckuntod's yellow picture looked so much like another yellow brug there, I wonder if his is from that brug. All the flowers on my first pictures's brug looked like that picture but the last yellow brug picture I posted, all of those blooming had that spider look that Huckuntod's brug has. Which by the way, is a look I like a lot.
I think they are different brugs. But we will see when mine blooms.
Hey Sue what does eternally thankful get me? LOL. We sure missed you. We had so much fun. I got to go thru the greenhouses and gawk. My begonia craze is getting so intense. LOL I got another great one there. And you should see the fuchsias I got. One is a pink tube going into white with true orange underpetals and green tips. I was a ga ga. I have been making combo pots madly from all my finds and also the fancy ones I got from East Bay. My new occupation.
Hey Root, good to see you!!! Someone was just asking for you recently....................... ahhhhhh it was John, Brugmansia now LoveBrug. He has a long thread on here that is so interesting. It was in that he asked about you. Oh and Eva just asked me Monday how you were!
Sue, one of my combos. I know I overplant. I can't help myself.
Great combo! I got every one of those plants too and I always over plant, I get so many ideas from East Bay!
My problem is I need more contrast. But I like the mono pots too. The only answer is to get more pots. LOL These are all 20 to 25 gallon pots too.
I wish other nurseries had similar plants for less. I went to Navlets Monday and they only had the usual though I managed to find a few of interest. LOL! Lali went nuts at East Bay too. Berkeley Hort was good too. They had a hot begonia we both grabbed.
I went nuts over this one. Too incredible.
Ohhh, thats' gorgeous! My Mom was just blown away bu east Bay when i took her first time last month.
I have a few of those yellow blooming Lysimachia, even without blooms they look great. I had one in a pot by itself for years, finally got ratty looing so replaced it. I also used several in hanging pots like East bay does. Also have that orange blooming Marmalade bush, Streptosolen jamesonii (don't worry, I don't use the latin at all there, just copied from Annie's) it looks like in your photo and also have the tiny blue...ehh...forget name.
We have the same tastes in many things. :-)
Kell:
I really not sure which stock plant the Hetty Krauss came from, just that it came from Ilie.
I love the Clivia 'Kaya' too.
LOL Sue, you need to hang out with Dr. Don, Pam, Lali and Zuzu for the day, they all talk fancy. And there I am saying, "Hey look at that red plant with green leaves." LOL. Then they all go off on its real name and every other variety of it known to man.
Yes, we do have the same taste....which is why we get along so well. LOL. We LOVE all plants. We WANT all plants. LOL
Kaya is hard not to love, LOL. I can't wait to see it, Huckuntod. I have lots of pods ripening on my clivia. I am so excited. I have a few from the Solomon GH. One was the prettiest color I have ever seen. I can't wait till spring to see them again.
I can't imagine being able to grow such gorgeous plants/flowers - almost year round. I love growing in pots. My house is really crowded during the winter.
I did have a great weekend with grandchildren, even though I was not up to my best.
This is today, after irrigation. The hail came down. This is my Pink Brug repotted into a larger pot. I am not finished with adding some petunias around the outside of the pot.
(Kell, If I came down would you take me around to all the sites? I am sure it wouldn't be this year, but someday, I can only hope. How would I get all my plants home? haha)
Hey Kell,I am getting in here a little more often, mainly to look and drool ,I am pretty much Brugless now,so I may get in here and beg for some cuttings, lol.
