Salvia I presume????

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm guessing this is a salvia.
My second guess is that I got it from DrDon at last year's round up.

What ever it is, it's lovely (and tall)

Cheers

Well, probably not, but you can see why it came to mind:

Hi spin
Yeah, it's the same colour, but my doesn't flower in spears.

It is a saliva right?

After nosin around Las Pilitas, I'm thinking it's some kind of Hummingbird Sage

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Haven't been to LosPilitas in years, have they increased their stock?
wonder if that would live here in Moab? gonna go look on their site. sure is a pretty thing. ~Blooms

Well, it is surely SALVIA-LIKE. But I've been wrong before.

Hummingbird Sage is usually used for S.spathacea, and your leaves are wrong... See them in the background and "bottom" of the Powerline Pink pic
http://www.laspilitas.com/plants/794.htm
Quite textured and kinda grayish, fuzzier than yours... and the spires or spikes are VERY big.

The bracts and bases of leaves being pink like the flowers is SO familiar... How big is it, anyway (plant that is)?

Why don't you post it to Identification forum?

Spin,
You're right the leaves are all wrong, all I was looking at was the little ball shape of the bloom.
The leaves are edged in purple, but that seems to turn green as they mature.
It's about 3.5 to 4 feet tall - here is another photo
It has more blooms now.

My guess is probably way off track, but I would think it's a monarda

Sherry,
You could very well be onto something here... hmmm

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 9b)

Sherry -- not off-track at all, and that's why it was familiar to me -- I studied the pics of M.punctata on the LadyBird Johnson site sometime ago.

Yours could be a named variety of M.didyma (maybe Marshall's Delight http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53102/index.html ?), or "just" the M.citriodora Blooms is [offering to be] bringing to this year's Temecula RU... the amount of coloration extending from bracts into the leaves seems to vary (poss. due to conditions?).

Monarda is a Lamiaceae, so neither of us WAY off to think of Salvias, but just the kind of relation that "I been wrong before" about. Monardas is a genus unrepresented in my 50+ Lamiaceae collection... so far. I'll be getting some of Blooms' citriodora this year!

With the first pic I wasn't really sure, it looked familiar (but not like Salvia) but I couldn't put my finger on what it was, but the 2nd pic sure does look like Monarda.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

okay here's pic of mine from last fall, excuse that it's all mixed in with a red valerian and the seed pods show how the next flower grows outta the top of the first... they make quite a stack. my lemon mint monarda citra whatever... is way more purply than that pretty pink you have.

Blooms,
Mine look a lot like that but they seem more leggy than yours?
Looking forward to seeing you at the round up

Monarda citriodora....you did get it from me last year and yours looks great!

Now that was an interesting thread to read and see how the incredible deductive powers here at DG get exercised.... I germinated some seed from this last year in the hope that I could get some established out on my roadside garden to give the butterflies something to do, but alas, it appears dovey was the only one to get some to take hold. I think the rabbits ate it, but they left M. didyma alone....go figure.

dovey, your garden really looks wonderful.

hope all are well,
don

Hi Don,
I so glad you found the thread and cleared up the mystery.
I thought I got it from you, so is the common name Lemon Bergamot?
You want a cutting? *chuckling*
Dove

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

Lemon Bergamot, Lemon Bergamont, Lemon Bee Balm, Citrus Bee Balm....holy....this one has a ton of common names...lol. I jazzed yours took, but then my common name for the stuff is Rabbit Food...lol. No thanks on the cutting, this old man can't handle the heartbreak of feeding the bunnies any more plants I like....lol. So far this year the varmints have taken their share of good plants so I've doused the entire roadside garden with bloodmeal and bonemeal....not many rabbits around when there is the smell of mammal blood in their feeding grounds....lol. This year we're doing the castor oil thing on the gophers to see if it out performs our trapping efforts. Last year we trapped over 300 of the critters and the dogs nabbed about another 25....one would think there was a gopher CNN where they get news about unfriendly places....lol. Ours must not have cable out here because they keep on coming..

best to you and Matt,
don
