In my ventures into the destruction caused by tidal surge in Hurricane Katrina I saw a crepe myrtle unlike any I have ever seen. It is a very deep red, almost maroon. I am wondering if this is a variety or if it was altered by the "stuff" in the floodwaters. I could not stop my car because I was in a very hazardous area.
Has anyone ever seen this color crepe myrtle? And, if so, what is its name?

Looking for a certain crepe myrtle tree
The deepest red one that I know of is called "Red Rocket". There are sooo many cultivars.
Flowers or leaves are red? I have one called 'Dynamite' which has a very large flower and a yellow eye. The petals are oxblood red. It's lovely.

This is a good site for info. I just got "Choctaw" and she's beautiful!

Wow, that's a great site, thanks Pati. They even have a "print" button which opens the page in Adobe so you can print a copy.
