New flower

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I`m enjoying all the pictures on here. This morning I got the second bloom on a vine that was supposed to be a blue picote but this flower doesn`t look like what is on the package. The very first flower has 6 spokes and now the second flower is very full more voluptuous and has 8 spokes. The leaves have some variegation and I love this vine because it is producing some lush foilage And flower buds which is glorious but still it doesn`t bear resemblance to the factory package. Will the flowers change shape as the plant matures?

I looked on plant files and well it does look like instead of a blue picotee (the blue kind with white edge that looks so dramatic in the picture) from Japan is really another Mt. Fugi ?

This one seems like a Mt fugi morning glory on steroids compared to my other Mt fugi mix I posted earlier. Both are beautiful but this one has a bigger flower with more spokes and the leaves are bigger, broad and variegated.

gardener2005 - I think what you have there is "Fuji no Murasaki" and a nice(!) looking one at that...quite similar to the one entered into the PlantFiles here
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/6134/

The color on yours looks darker/richer,but that could be the result of different lighting or the depth of the pigmentation variation that is present in these types...

Thanks for the compliments. This really is blue like a cobalt blue just like the picture. It really does have fantastic color and substance and I ran for my camera as soon as I saw it. I have seen six and seven spokes but not 8. I thought that was really neat when I saw 8 spokes. I thought it was strange to see six spokes and then 8 spokes on the same vine.

This one is definitely a keeper and I will save seeds if it sets seed. Time will tell. I`ll save all I can find and grow them. It will be interesting to see if this plant is fertile and if it breeds true.

I have 4 or 5 other vines from the same package that was supposed to be blue picotee but No they probably aren`t since there is about 3 different kinds of leaves and I caught a glimpse of one that looks like chachamaru complete with the distinctive fuzzy leaves exactly like on the plant files. There is No telling what the others are. Time will tell.

Yes,I started with a clean pot and fresh from the store dirt.

So, it looks like the factory workers dumped several batches of seed on the floor, swept them up and kept right on packing, huh? :)

OK,Now I know what the other two vines in this pot on the porch are.

First the Chachamaru:

There are huge leaves at the bottom and smaller leaves growing up and climbing.

And now for the third vine with the leaves that look like My fugi at the bottom but they turn three lobe and get shorter up higher and the flowers are more intense blue and do not have any of the tie dye affect or brush strikes like some of the other Mt Fugi I posted about earlier.

Hi gardner2005

Your 'Red Star' photo is Very Pretty.
Look at the one that I just posted on the 2006 MG Thread
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2392076

I believe we will probably both learn this is probably
Yojiro 'Yagaruma'

I've been confused about the patterns and you can see those differences in other photos that I just posted.
What do you think?

You have some great blooms going for the year.
All Very Pretty.

This one

looks more to me like Yojiro' Mai Sugata'
???

Whatever, it is awesome.

Yes, I`m confused too. I thought maybe some of these flowers had a Japanese name and also an American nickname.

My blue flower favors the Yojiro' Mai Sugata' but the leaves are different. I want to put it in plant files but not totally sure where is belongs yet.

Thanks for the compliments!

Ron will be able to help you out with these, I'm sure...
And, he can tell you exactly where you should post your photos as well. In fact, he has worked very hard with Terry to get a lot of the MG photos cleaned up and put in their right places.
