I've reached the top of the spiral, now what?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

This is my first time growing MG's on a spiral. I've reached the top. My first inclination is to cut the top off, but then I thought maybe I'm suppose to wind it back down. Since I'm a spiral tyro, please advise!

Thanks!

Lol I say send it back down! That should be fun and you can watch it grow right back up!

Xeram, I did rewind mine :0))
If you cut it, it will send out branches.

That is a beautiful flower and interesting picture.

I have a patch s`posed to be that kind. The leaves look right exept I got two colors of leaves light and dark green because it is some kind of mix.

I ended up snipping off the end .. though it might bloom more if it gets bushier.

I had one growing on a 6' trellis last year that grew up to the top, down the other side to the ground and then found another trellis and grew to the top of it and over. Greedy thing! I think it was an Asuka. Let us know how trimming yours works.

Wow .. I thought there were limits to size!

I think it varies with the cultiver. Most of mine last year were in the 6ft++ range, but not all as bad or good, depending on how you look at it, as Asuka.

Pruning can make for larger flowers too, so I have read on some Japanese web sites. You might have to introduce a fertilizer to make that effect however...have not been able to figure out the NPK ratio they use, yet.
