Do you see it??

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I dont know why the goat farmer burns it. Maybe to cut down on smell?

I dont burn my normal compost piles. Well I guess it does heat and burn naturally. We do water the piles that is supposed to help with the cooking activity.

For all who dont know about this book "The Complete Book of Composting" by J.I. Rodale, it is a huge source of information on composting. It is no longer in print as far as I know, but I bought mine on Ebay for a very good price. The book is around 1000 pages of great information. Mine is the 9th printing in 1971. It is one of my favorite books and it is worth getting.

KELL THAT IS GORGEOUS.
I am home and having fun shopping. I am goiing to plant some plants in my sister's garden, she is very challenged in the gardening.....
i wouldnt trust her with a brug.... i left her all my passionvines and she killed them all.

Frannie, I read that the way goat's teeth are shaped and situated, they grind up nearly all seeds that they eat. I think the article I read said that they will destroy 99% or more of the seed they eat. That isn't bad.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Delisa, that listing has been removed. I wonder if someone read your praises here and made a side deal for it. From looking at all your pictures over the years, whatever you are adding sure is great for your yard is fantastic. If I had the room I just know I would be a master at doo. Right up my alley. LOL

Oh Pebble, that is such a shame. I hope your sister does better with your new plantings. I saw a passionflower yesterday that took my breath away. And it was a warning to me too. I have this same one, Donna Brigham, in a gallon can and was going to stick it in the back of my front garden in a hole my DH left when he took out another vine that was to invasive. I was going to plant it today and then yesterday I drive by this one. Can't be a coincidence. I think God was telling me to think twice or my husband would kill me. He had a tough time taking out the other vine, it had been there for so long because I would not let him touch it till it was so out of control.

Hey 99% weed free sounds great to me. . . it does not get much better than that! I cannot even say that about my flower beds......lol . That is very interesting regarding how goats eat and a fact that I did not know. Guess I will start looking for goat poop.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

All well Frannie, then.....a bird will fly over and drop wild cherry seeds, sweet clover, wild morning glory, etc. etc. ha

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

the only problem with the seed and goat poop is that the alph alpha (spelled wrong I am sure) and hay that is tossed on the pile has seed. It all gets burned together. I HAVE been known to walk around a friends farm and pick up little piles from her mini goats and toss it right on my plants.

I am sure there will be more listings for the compost book. Just remember to look for the 1971 edition since its the latest and I was told was the best.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Delisa, I read that twice thru as "I HAVE been known to walk around a friends farm and pick up little piles from her mini goats and toss it right in my pants."

What a way to swipe it. LOL. I am on the floor laughing picturing you walking around with such hot pants.

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

EEWWW! That would make me jump up and down instead of walking!

Here is my friend with her mini goats. The babies are only about an hour old.

Oh Delisa, that baby is so cute. I didn't even know goats came in minis. I wonder if they make good pets. I know they would eat all my weeds! But probably everything else too, huh?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

awwwww they are so cute. One of these days I'm gonna have my own petting zoo with mini goats, emu, alpaca, chickens.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

kell, i can well imagine that the passionine can get that way in no time........they are like monsters. really.
