Have you had a successful year but the plants didn't return?

Denver, CO(Zone 6a)

I had a very successful year when I started winter sowing a few years ago. Many plants did well but didn't come back the following years. All that work and nothing. (Short lived perennials not included)

Some of my successful failures

Helenium lollipop
mexican hat
candy lily
most of my Malva's

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I am surprised the mexican hats and candy lilies did not come back. You may have to wait a little while longer in your zone for them.

This was three years ago. I was surprised too, since Mexican Hats are also native here. I really liked them too. Both seemed to do very well. Oddly most of the columbines I winter sowed three years ago are still coming up. They were my best success and are short lived perennials.

I just fall sow the Mexican hats here in zone 7. Wonder if that would work for you there.
I get a bazillion seeds every year from my plants so can send you seed when they are ripe if you like. I have the plain yellow and then the burgundy and yellow petals. I like them both.
I sow the candy lily seeds every year from the ones that came before, so maybe they are just new ones and not the original. I move things around so much it is a wonder anything comes back. LOL
Are you referring to the blackberry lily or is the candy lily a different one altogether?

Thanks for the offer but I have plenty of seeds. I am referring to the candy lily. I think I will try them again this winter.
