There is a shrub that is commonly referred to as a tulip tree... but it is not. There is the poplar tulip... (which is several states "state tree") and then there is the African Tulip tree... Spathodea campanulata
But this one looks closely related to magnolia... possibly japanese magnolia? It has purple blooms and dark foilage.
??? Any ideas??
