More Strange MG

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

This is the 2nd bud that was close to opening that has come out strange. I can't wait to see if things get back to normal with immature buds that were not sprayed with Messenger.

Ron or MGMan have you ever seen anything like this?

I gotta say again...I LIKE them!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

That rocks! Is that from the same blue picotee that had the star shape?

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

WOW , love the look on that one.

X - the flowers in the photos above look basically healthy to me...there's nothing 'wrong' with this bloom,it's just one of the types of doubles that is displaying separated petals...therte was some on e-bay a couple months ago...

The sideview shows standard Ipomoea nil sepals,so I don't see any unusual evidence of any interspecific hybridization there...

The Ipomoea purpurea hige types and "Sunrise Serenade" often show petal separation, but I do think it looks interesting when the flowers show very distinctive (!) petal separation...

Actually I like it too .. it was just a shock when my normal Blue Picotee started producing these guys .. I sprayed the messenger on my mini bar and its flowers are normal. This one had a mature pistil and stamen so I hand pollenated it .. hopefully I'll get some seeds. There are two more buds that should be open by now .. i haven't gone out to the greenhouse yet, they weren't sprayed with messenger. I'll let you know what happened.

Ok .. been out to the greenhouse .. this mornings bloom still has the split petals, but the color seems to be normalizing.

That is fantastic! X- What do I have to do to get some seeds from that plant?

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

Still WOW..... that one is definitely a keeper

After stuyding the picture of the mg this morning, I noticed that the petal separation is not as pronounced as the previous. Considering that the normal coloring is coming back and the splitting is less, I'm beginning to think that the messenger is indeed the cause of the deformation.

X - if it is convenient, can you post or send me a link or listing of the ingredients in the Messenger product...I've not used it before and am interested to see what it contains and the purported benefits of using it...

Thanks..

Ron

Wowee tell me who you bought those seeds from! So unusual!

Joseph the seeds are from my Blue Picotee from last year. I only got 6 seeds out of it. It was very unhappy on the chainlink fence .. I think the metal was too hot for them. I planted them this year in hopes of getting more .. Being in the greenhouse with less chance of insect contact, I have been hand pollenating both the Picotee and Mini-Bar. So far to no avail. Considering what's going on with the Picotee, I may not get any seeds from it.

The active ingredient in Messenger is Harpin protein. Check out their website http://www.edenbio.com/usa/agriproducts/?m=1.

Here is a link to the home and garden website that is kept more up to date. www.messenger.info. The one above links to the agriculture site which is not updated as often and may have some older info.
