Do You Recognize Me?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I have a list of "what" I've planted but lost track of the "where's" for some of them. Does anyone recognize this lily? I'd really like to match it up with its entry in my journal.

I just saw a picture of that at bloomingbulb. I got a sale email today. I'll go check.

I thought it was one I saw of Coral Sunset, but now I'm not so sure. Here's the link http://www.bloomingbulb.com/XQ/ASP/ProductKey.549/bulbs.Asiatic%20Lily/flower.Coral%20Sunset/parent.2682/QX/cartProductDetail.htm.

How about Royal Sunset?

Royal Sunset is a really close match, but the little pollen thingies are lighter colored. So is Garden Treasure.

Not Treasure, Bouquet..

How about this one, Tropical Dream?

princess, Moby, beaker, thanks for all of your help.

Coral Sunset looks very close in color and shape AND Coral Sunset is among my "misplaced" lilies. The only problem is that all of the photos of CS, both in PF and the one at bloomingbulb.com are completely without "spots". Mine has pronounced "freckles" in the center area.

Royal Sunset is also a close match, and it even has the freckles. It looks a bit more "orange" in places, but very close. But I don't have Royal Sunset or Tropical Dream. : (

Some of these look more like red/orange/yellow combinations. I would describe mine as more like dk rose with burgandy or wine notes; the center is overlayed with cream and peachy-orange - kindof like that 3 flavor sherbert: raspberry, orange, and pinapple.

Here are some of the possibilities from my list: Coral Sunset (comments above), Trinidad (no pick available, described as bold pink with yellow center), Coral Reef (my pick shows it as reflexed and w/o spots), Jacqueline (picks look to dark), First Lady, Vermeer. That looks like about it for Asiatics with similiar colors. If you can match it to one of these, that would be more comforting. : )

Where did you get your bulbs from?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

A little bit of everywhere: Wild, Brecks, Van B, Dutch Gardens, Wayside, Parks, SpringHill, Fogbelt.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Ah, gotcha. Have they bloomed for you before or is their first year?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Well, I don't know for sure. I'm inclined to think they did bloom last year, but I'd have to go upstairs and check the photos to be sure. That "gotcha" sounds like you might have an idea, huh?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

An idea that maybe it's not exactly what you ordered. Fogbelt has a good reputation but the others are so-so.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Yes, Moby, I bought a lot of them early on in my PRE-novice days before I knew better : )
I really saw the difference when the bulbs arrived - some were really puny - and again when they bloomed, some were pretty puny. And, yes, I was very pleased with everything that I got from Fogbelt, and wow, what a difference when those huge flowers bloomed. BTW, I don't believe i ordered any Asiatics from Fogbelt, although I received one red Asiatic as a bonus; hence, it's not a Fogbelt lily.

I'll have to look at some more pics of the flowers you suggested (above). This one is definitely more raspberry, peach, cream than red, orange, yellow. The tones start out soft and fade to pastel. The backs of the petals are dk raspberry to faded wine.

Yep, it sure pays to order from a well-regarded source. Once everything blooms it will be interesting to get the all sorted out.

Arlington, TX(Zone 7b)

ahhhhhhhhhhh! so jealous! I'm going to pull all of my old plants to make space for these lilies next Spring.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

LOL Don't pull all of your plants! Lilies don't take much room ` that's why it's easy to have many. Welcome to DG.

BTW ~ ordering lilies for fall planting will start soon. :)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Hmmmm....do I smell a co-op coming on?? LOL

Sayre, OK(Zone 7a)

Yes, yes YES!!!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Hmmm....the best time for one would be in the fall, no?

Arlington, TX(Zone 7b)

When do you normally order lilies? I already worked up a list of lilies i want. Did anyone order from TheLilyGarden?

Oh by the way, I didn't have the heart to throw away the ivy i got from an old flower basket years ago, so planted them in a corner of my biggest flower bed. Big mistake!! They filled up the whole bed, now I cant get rid of them (cried..) Tried to dig out all the roots with a spade but no way no how. I'm going to have my husband rent me a heavy duty tiller to get rid of the ivy to make room for the lilies. What a pain.

I don't have any experience with Ivy, but some plants that go through a tiller process just break up into hundreds of more plants. Has anyone tried to kill ivy off by covering the area with newspaper for several weeks? That's what I did last fall for a new bed I made this year. If that doesn't work, I would consider using a plant poison. They do have some that it only takes a few weeks until you can work the site and replant.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh Ed, I'm so sorry to hear about the dreaded ivy! I have bind weed that comes up in my beds and I can never totally get rid of it. I agree with beaker about the tiller though....it could just break it up and spread it more!

I think Langbr's co-op in 2004 was with The Lily Garden. I'll have to contact them and see what they say.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You're right Mendy, that co-op was with Lily Garden. Nice bulbs and they sent a bonus too.

The only way I was able to get rid of the ivy on my house was to use some nasty stuff called Tordon.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Moby! Sooo....you gonna come over and help me pack and ship IF I do a co-op with them???? ;o)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Why not? You're practically next door!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

;o)
