Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Allison, I just bought that book at our local used/new book store. i was not sure I wanted to get it because I thought it would be outdated. I am impressed.
Mine is called The complete Book of African Violets, 1952, Hardback. I am half way through it and I am surprised that we are still doing the things she suggested.

Linda

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think this one is different as I have a few of her books.
This one from 1951 and was completly revised in 1970.29 color photos, 59 black and white, and 37 pages of drawings.
I'm sure they both might have some of the same stuff and maybe some different. I have enjoyed each one of her books. This one sure has a lot of information !
Along with the many Illustrations you find chapters like Always In Bloom, Ways to Enjoy, The Basics-Soil, Fertilizers, and pots..goes into pot size best to use , Light, Fixtures and se-ups, Culture under Lights, Put Down a Leaf, Growing by Seed, How to Hybridize, The Fascinating Species, The Old Favorites, Proits from your Plants, How to start a Club, How to Give A Show and Judge it, African Violets are Good Travelrs,A Glance at Other Gesneriads ( growing information on many), Maxi Pleasure from the Minis, A Chapter of Horror-Pest and Disease, The Saintpaulia Lauguage, and so much more !
A good African violet book could never become out-dated they are grown the same way now as they were years ago !
In the past couple years I have read and re-read this book dozens of times but have used it for reference zillions of time.
I think this book is good for a Novie or a person with lots of experience who has been growing for 40 years !
Does your book cover a lot of the same ? I have enjoyed everyone of her books and could never read enough . Each time I read I learn something new !

Red Oak, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow! I 'm really glad I put the book on my list. I love a good book especially if it will help me with my AFs.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, I just sent my card to Anna. This is so exciting.

Jesse

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Forgive my 'dense-ness' Ü .....'cuz I'm not sure I get it so I have to ask....

So, one's *Bingo Card* is, simply one's list of 15 of the 'items' you listed above, Allison?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes ! You pick the 15 you like best as if you win these are the prizes you win !

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

How cool!! (And sweet and generous of you folks invovled in organizing!)

Does this look like yours? Linda

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Does anyone know of a good site to possibly see some pics of the prize types? You know, a picture is worth a 1000 words.....

Thx

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Linda mine was completely revised in 1970 , it's not the same as your's. the chapter names are smiular but changes and more added . Up in posting "May 25, 2006
6:24 AM " I listed some of the chapter names ! "

1 New information on how to have bloom at windows or under lights- culture of Minatures- scoring of show plants and other Gesneriads, - charts of troubles and cure- 29 photographs in color, 59 on black and white, 37 pages of drawings.
In the center mine has color pictures , one is a large plant and a miniature plant all in bloom showing comparative sizes. It says it was an African Violet Magzine Photo ! This book has a big chpater on Miniatures.
When you turn the page there is a beautiful photo of a plant design also from AV photo Magazine ..
" Double Peach-pink AV with heart- shaped leaves from Tinari greenhouse. beautiful in a low milkglass dish with white baby breath I think it is sitting on a pretty antique table. And next to it a photo also from AV magazine African violets made into a Centerpiece for a Dinner Party ! turn page is another photo from AV magazine Bright Pink single Saintpaulie with Frilled Eges. , developed by Ficher Grennhouse. There is information and cute pictures of The Charm of the Miniatures in cute little glass terriaum lie beauties ! Photo's were for the Gesneriad Saintpaulia news !
But I don't want o give it all away. lol like was saying there are 29 photographs in color, 59 on black and white, 37 pages of drawings
I have other books of her's and have never lost interest in any of the . They are all wonderful !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Garden Girl !
You might be able to see a lot of them in the AVSA photo gallery !
http://www.avsa.org/Photographs.asp

You could also do a search some Vendors may have pictures
http://home.earthlink.net/~sestes1373/avsearch.html

Also in our stickys first two threads into our forum has links galore. The second one would have links to see pictures of the Streptocarpus plants ~ All though sometimes they will show up in plant search above.
Some of the newer or rare might not find. I think Annabelle new to Optimara is only seen on Selective Gardner sight or the zillions of pictures we have posted of her here in our forum. Many of these plants have been also posted here one time or more !
Have fun looking !
