This is the 2nd bloom that looks shredded and a totally different color. The only thing I have done to this plant is spray Messenger on it. The two blooms that have come up wierd were buds when I sprayed. In the picture, the left is what they are suppose to look like .. the right is the strange one. This is the same plant!! What's going on?

Did Messenger Mess Up My Blue Picotee?
I know what messenger is but not what it can do to a plant, Have you got any normal looking flowers on this plant or is this how they have looked.
Janett
The flowers have been normal up until I sprayed messenger. The flower on the left is from the same plant, taken May 8th and all subsequent flowers have looked the same as that one. This is scary .. something just as dramatic seem to happen to a Datura bud that was sprayed with Messenger when it opened .. I thought may be it was just a variation but after seeing this, I'm beginning to wonder.

One flower would seam to be a fluke of nature..........Two, no way. And if a third showing abnormal signs................TROW THAT GARBAGE AWAY.. Something is very wrong and I dont belive in coincideses when something you use to boost "normal" growt as a "furtiliser" like this is used on more then one plant and they behave like this.
Seams like this Messinger changes the DNA in the plant somehow.
I would also post these pictures (take one one the Dat too) on other forums and let people be aware that it happened with your plants, Maybe some other have abnormal flowers on there plant and just thought it was a fluke of nature too.
There is a lot of treads all over DG about how *marvelous* Messenger is, well there may be a very serious downside too.
Imagine what this can do if the genetics change. well does it stop with plants or does it affect your genetics too. because when you spray in open air and dont where top to bottom "security" dress you got it on your skin too.
Also does the effect on the genetics only have short term effect on the plant or is it for ever. THAT would be very scary. One never knows when it stops. will all our food be uneateble forever and the possibilitys goes on........................
Trow it away
Janett
I don't know...I kinda LIKE it :)
I like it too and would collect seeds on it. What I dont like is the possibility that its the messenger that made it.
Janett
Well that's the weirder thing .. upon closer inspection there was very tiny, immature pistil and no stamen that i could see!

I can't believe it's Messenger! I've used it a variety of MG's, and they've all been fine! Anything else you've used?
Haven't used anything else .. not even food. Just water.

Do you suppose it could be a mutation?
It could be, but since the color is normalizing and the splitting of the petals are not as pronounced I'm not so sure.

I was on the Messenger web site just now, and you're probably right about it being a result of having used it. I'll be interested to see what happens throughout the season. Keep us posted!

Attention paid to the section titled: Use Advisories ..
Don't want to give anyone any ideas - but ya gotta wonder what effect such would have, with human consumption and/or heavier exposure. (as if there hasn't been a couply thousand 'experiments' already). Hmmmm ..
Ahh, perhaps there is a 'Big Foot' and other unexplained phenomenon that walks, crawls, grows, lurks ... and, is yet to be released - that exists afterall.
Geez! .. The product & the company's name, is certainly enuff to heighten the hair on the back of ya neck: 'Messenger' made by 'Eden' Bioscience ... Talk about some creative juices!
Now, where has the Venus Flytrap and the Sundew gotten off to? They couldn't've just up and walked off .. (hee)

Xman check out this posting of mine. I sprayed the daylily with messenger after it had scapes. It was a single last year and still may be but it looks like a double with some kind of disease this year.

Magpye, maybe it's the Fouke(Arkansas) Monster that's reared it's ugly head from back in the '70's?
I have been using messenger this year on my MG's and they are gorgeous. I will post when I get a chance.
I sure hope we don't find it does odd things to my plants. I have been using it on EVERYTHING.

=^..^=
Jim, didn't you treat all of your lilies with messenger? Isn't it strange that it only affected that one in that way. I don't think Messenger was the problem. I think there's a possibility on this MG that possibly the sprayer used had been previously used for hericides?
My results have never been in that direction.
;)
Jim,
I recently made an investment in almost a thousand fans of DL's. I love the doubles, personally, and when any double went to bloom, it seemed most of the firsts showed up as singles.
Certainly got my "ire" up until the second and third blooms. They actually came in as doubles, correctly.
So your's may have been a double all along, just not acting right the first times out.
Molly
