Does anyone know of a non-wholesale online company who has Liquidambar Styraciflua Slender Silhouette available now for mail order? I saw one here at a nursery but after waiting a day to buy it, it was nabbed by someone else. I've tried a few places online but everyone's sold out. Now it's haunting me. HELP!

Off-hand, I don't know of an online source. If you Google 'styraciflua slender silhouette', youll find more than a couple of nurseries that carry it, but whether or not they'll be small enough to ship, I don't know. But, you might find one within reasonable driving distance of Chicago.

I do most of my buying online for the rarer trees. Occasionally I find good stuff locally. Favorite local nurseries are:

Gethsemane (on Clark)
Fertile Gardens (on Diversey)
Jayson Home (on Clybourn)

I used to go to the last 2 on your list when I lived in Wicker Park and Lakeview for years, but looks like I will have to try that Gethsemane Gardens.

I thought Fertile Gardens shut down when the owner died??? or was that Fertile Delta?

It was Fertile Delta that shut down. I believe there is some relation to the new one. Gethsemane is definitely the superior spot here but interestingly enough the other 2 sometimes have great oddballs.
