A Beginner Question

Edinboro, PA(Zone 5b)

Hi
I'm just starting out with lilies and I could sure use your advice.
Let's say, ah, a friend of mine ordered a few lilies from The Lily Garden last fall
and he planted them and the Asiatics came up but the OT didn't, [zone 5b], so my friend
got impatient and poked around with his finger and may have snapped off the growing shoot. Does this lily have a chance?

Also, a groundhog got under the fence and nipped off the growing tip of a 6" high Oriental lily and my friend is pretty upset [it is Chambertain sp?] and he wonders if that is "blood under the bridge" or what can he do?

Thanks in advance. I really enjoy your generous sharing of knowledge and passion.

Well, I...er, have a friend, that was impatient last year and went poking around for a stem and broke it off. It's back this year. ;)

As for chomped off stems, I've had those in the past too, and they've always come back. If there is any foliage remaining, leave it to to it's thing.

Thanks, Moby!

And I thought you were talking about me and my Lizzie oriental...
Gee, I wonder if we ALL have snapped one off here or there. Poor lilies do their best and along comes a gardener.....

Glad I read this I was getting a hankering to do some poking... :*)
Rabbits love my lilies, so this year I put some fencing around and
the things are growing like crazy.

Go for the Plantskydd! It's sure keeping the bunnies at bay this year.

Plantskydd is the new love of my life...

Several days ago I decided to go poking for a new Orienpet that hadnt broke through the service. Seems it should of been called Wrong Way Eddy...instead of Anastasia. Right before it broke through, it went back down and opened below ground. Now, I have opened the hole and will see if it will maybe straighten up......probably will have a loop in it ...even if it does.

Poor little lily! I was busy tending the Tall Bearded iris the past couple of weeks& ignored some last emerging lilies. Guess which ones became "bunny buffet" material?

Where do you purchase Plantskyd? I have rabbits that eat my morning glories. I have to put a fence around the area in order to enjoy the blooms. What a pain!! I need to get some Plantskyd.

I get it at one of my local garden centers, so you might want to call around to yours. It's available online http://www.plantskydd.com/ and the site has a dealer-locater.

Thanks Moby!
