Will my imperialis make it this time??

Örebro, Sweden

New buds in my imperialis...will they fall off like they use to?? This time they have made it a little bit longer than the usually do before falling off. So, please, cross your fingers.... =)

Thank you all !!!

Tami, I will take a photo of the whole plant - I don't have one right now. It's not a beautiful sight, though... It's growing rather "wild"... LOL

Lotta - here's hoping it continues! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Tami, here's my whole plant. It's not a very big one, only about 2.5 feet high to give you an idea how big it is. The flowers are still very fresh, but they are dripping sticky nectar on the leaves and neighbors and...

Wow, what a beautiful plant, and flower. Does this Hoya set peduncles easily and early? I see you have another peduncle on yours. Thanks for posting your plant Christina, I have to figure something out for mine. Again it is very pretty..

Trelleborg, Sweden

Thanks Tami. I think my plant was about a year old when I saw the peduncle, but it waited another 6 months before it bloomed. It has now 3 (one hidden behind the leaves with small buds on it) peduncles and it's now a size I can live with. Not too big and not too small! I have cut off about 2 feet of a new vine that couldn't be forced to bend down - it grew straight out from the highest point. I'll "control" the plant as long as I can, but from what others say it's uncontrollable!

Let us know what you figure out and show us!

Christina

Prescott, AZ

Christina, it looks nice and controlled. It looked like in a couple of spots that you had trimmed her up, which doesn't sound like a bad idea if you have some peduncles. I can't believe how fast this one grows. I wish my husband still had hes bender I would have him bend me a nice hoop out of steel or iron. I'm gonna get this figured out......

Örebro, Sweden

Here's a (bad) picture of my plant. I'm almost ashamed of showing it - it grows wildly and I do NOT have any control at all....=) When it has bloomed (not "if", but "when" *lol*) I probably will have to cut it down and try to bend it and make a nice and neat Hoya of it... some challenge =) Anyhow, it seems to like growing that way since it has 11 peduncles.

And here's a up-date on the buds.

Lotta, that is one wild plant! Looks like you'll get to see the flowers after all, but I'd say you still have about a month left... Perhaps at Midsummer!

Christina

Örebro, Sweden

Christina, yes it's too wild... I must do something about it, but not right now =)). I totally lost control of it early, because I didn't undestood how fast growing this one is...
How did you manage to bend yours?

Wow Lotta, that's a lot of wild growing hoya there! I don't understand how to control it as well as Christina can either - my solution would be to just give it a bigger trellis to wander over!

You have a lovely kitty too!

Christine

Long Beach, CA

I think that plant is destined to become a floor specimen with a larger trellis. I can't bend mine's stems either, but they are no where near that large. I have mine on a 2 foot hight trellis right now, but if it goes higher & gets wild like yours, I think I would go to something like I did with the "Getty plant". Ha
I don't have very good luck with Imperialis. Mine grows slow (I have had it for 2 years & it is only about 2 ft. high. Also every other time I water, it gets yellow leaves on the bottom. I think I need to repot it into a lighter mix or something.

Marcy, I have the same problem with mine. It seems like it always needs cut back or something. Not sure what the problem is. Good luck Lotta, she looks promising!

Lotta thanks for posting a photo, yes this one is gonna be hard to tame. And 11 peduncles wow.. That would be very pretty to see in bloom.

Örebro, Sweden

The buds are still there...must be due to all your good wishes and crossed fingers =)

And YES, it's gonna be a haaard one to tame.... =)))

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

One of my H. imperialis looks terrible. This plant doesn't grow well for me either.
Lotta, ROTFL at your photo shame of having an OUT OF CONTROL wildly growing H. imperialis! Mine are twigs! Hope she blooms for you!

The flowers on my imperialis are starting to look really shrivelled, but they lasted long.

I'd say one more week. I think I guessed around Midsummer in the beginning, but now I'm thinking it will happen a little sooner...
