mini sinningia

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Well David, you certainly know more than I do- consider me your willing pupil! I have one that I grow outside, it's a large one- I am sorry that I don't know the name, my daughter gave it to me, and I now have 3 in the house. Sinningia leucotricha & then the 2 minis Glory Be & Bonnie's Baby.
I have bid on Super Orange, but don't want to count my chickens before they have hatched.

My leucotricha seems to be doing absolutely nothing! I have been thinking that maybe it's not getting enough water or hummidity- any suggestions?

Thanks, April

April that will be so much fun to go to the show and more in Novemeber ! Your so lucky.
David we never thought there was on way to grow Sinningia or any other plant. April needed some help no one else answered so I went reading to try to help her !
I know you know more than us put together . I've had several of them in the past just grew them with my Av's on stand or window . They always flower and did well I just never got into them s I gave them away in trades.
April's thoughts were to put them into terrarium . So I wrote some info on this metthod for her BUT we are always happy to learn new medthods of growing AV's and Gesneriads !
Thanks David for sharing with us.

I love the Sinningias! *sigh* Another thing on my wish list that's longer than I am tall! LOL Y'all sure do grow them pretty!

David
We are THRILLED to have you teach us anything you know.
I'm sure you know more than we do about growing them.
Please post a step by step method of how to grow them with out having them in a terrarium. We could use it for our sticky notes in the AV forum & the Terrarium forum, too.

And can you please post more pretty pics???

Glad you are here to help guide us .

You guys all know how little I know, everything is helpful.

I did go looking on the web for specific information on growing Sinningias and really found very little specific information, only general information and some of that was conflicting.

I will answer couple more question tonight.

I been growing plants since about 1990 and really got into sinningia about 9-10 years ago. I went to show near Kansas City and saw this little plant name Sinningia I talk with the lady that grow it and many talks and about 5-6 months laterly I got mine really assortment of sinningia that how its got started for me and been growing even since. I like to experience and that is how I find what work the best for me and I suggest you all do the same if you can.

the question was ask how many new sinningia seedling I have not really that many I have mine standard if a sinningia does not meet it its goes to trash pile its might have a wonderfully bloom if the plants is bad is goes to trash pile. See you don't want the plant to pass on that bad trait, so I feel its better to toss it. I have in the late 90's one ozark coral freckles in pass many year I have added 3 + 5 + 6 total 15 this year I'm showing in different show this year 6 new seedling. But not all is release its take time to grow enough to release I release so many at show until I have enough to release. For the one's at the AVSA convention you would saw three new sinningia seedling from me. The one that won will show up on the web site for sale in about 1 1/2 years from now if you show up at the avsa next spring I might have their on the table. I show mine seedling one year before I release.

David thank you for the information! My grandfather was an Orchid grower in California and made many hybrids- I know that he tossed many of his crosses because they didn't meet his standards, others are now part of many, many modern crosses. It was hard work but he loved it and I loved going through the greenhouses w/ him. He was self taught, by that I mean, he read books, talked to people and then he experimented. There were many set backs along the way but the business was very successful and I think he was very proud of what he had created- I know the rest of us were very proud of him.
Thank you for you input.

April your question on sinn leucotricha you said its not doing anything. Here is one thing that might be going on with it. Have you bury the tuber if so this sinn does not like to have its top bury, so leave the top of the tuber open. If that is not its if the tuber is sleeping yet, unpot and threw in bag with damp NZ moss put in a box and put under the plants stand and check it first of the month then repot only and when its wake up sometime upsetting help wake it up.

You also ask about orange Sinn super orange is one of the best orange mini sinningia another one that is a compact is call Orange Zinger. their is other shade of orange with other color their is not than many orange out their on the market another one is shade of orange is call sinn tai rex.......Some of the other color that is that many is peach and Coral.

I like the picture of the sp pusilla and the its white sport white sprite.

David I Iike Orange Zinger & Tai Rex very much, also Ozark Coral Freckles, Charm and although not orange, Ozark Scentimenatal Journey. I am partial to orange, coral, peach but that doesn't keep me from wanting other colors. I think the oranges are just so vibrant that they catch my eye. I also like the photo of sp pusilla and white sprite! Very nice.

I did win Super Orange so I am very excited about that.

My Leucotricha is planted w/ the top of the tuber above ground. I will go ahead and put it in a bag w/ damp NZ moss as you suggest, thank you for the information.

W/ appreciation
April
