Happy Birthday Lilypon

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

many happy belated returns there pam. do you have a multi year deal on your garden plot? if so you could put the up front time into making it a square foot garden. works wonders and the weeding chores are so much easier. also it seems to me just about all members of the squash family will cross pollinate with some interesting results. you could hand pollinate to be sure. like you won't have enough to do anyway. oh and its not just the weeding - english peas and beans while yummy and delightful are not in my mind well behaved veggies as they must be picked when they are at their peak not when you have time
you might join me in the flashlight club back when i too had .5 hectare garden and grew most of the veggies for the restaurant in the summer i have been seen out picking peas and beans at midnite with a flashlight .... certifiable for sure

that first feed of new potatoes will make it all worthwhile she said with a slightly crooked grin

Thanks Lynn :)

re cross polination we had a nasty feeling it was a possibility (so i'm tempted to play the bee and tape those female ones http://www.kokopelli-seed-foundation.com/squashes.html........and yep will prolly be doing it like you did tho the fruit shouldn't show problems if a cross did happen (won't talk about what their children might look like tho if I saved the seed without being sure who pollinated the fruit Mind you even if it does effect this years fruit interesting and ugly won't matter as far as the pumpkins are concerned. ;)~

Flashlight gardening and me also have a history......the city police have been known to turn their flood lights in my garden's direction before (after making sure I wasn't up to anything no good ;). The gate to the garden is locked at 10:30 tho so won't be there as late as you've been known to pick/pollinate/weed. ;)

Looking forward to those early taters here (and baby onions, peas, dill, carots all smothered in a cream sauce :^))) BUT not the weeds. :(

Going out to the stacks now to pick up a book on square foot gardening (gotta refresh my memory on that)......it's a year by year deal but those that gardened there before get first dibs the next year.

Pam your husband does know that any garden material removed is automatically Kilo for Kilo to be put back in the garden. So get out there and weigh the tree branch. Oh first make sure he is not dropping another one he forgot to tell you he was doing. Timber!!!!!!!!!!!

LOLOL Sofer trust me we don't have the tools (or endless energy) that you have. ;) I'll make a guesstimate on what it weighs tho and beg the neighbours for their leaves this fall. :)

Thanks Michelle. :)

Now I've got to remember to get those dill seeds out of the fridge (and into the ground).

Thanks and it's sure good to see you posting Ginny. :) How is your garden coming?

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pam (you have Dmail). My gardens are coming along quite well. I've had this week off of work just to do my spring gardening. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow if I get time - no promises though :-) --Ginny
