Picea Pungens Bacheri

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

Does anyone have any info on this cultivar, specifically how well it maintains its blue color and its ultimate size (width is important for my case)? Is this the same as Bakeri which I have some info on, but not much.

(Jacobson - 'North American Landscape Trees'): "Picea pungens 'Bakeri' - Originated in a batch of seedlings in Massachusetts. Propagated and introduced (~)1927 by Ellery Baker, then manager of Hiti nursery of Pomfret, Ct. Common. Needles longer and bluer than most."

So it's probably a nice blue along the line of culitvars ending in "i" or "ii" like 'Hoopsii', 'Kosteri', etc.

This one I haven't seen unless I stumbled by it at Rich's Foxwillow Pines because they have them all. Actually, the largest conifer collection in the world for those of you who didn't know. So I'm sure he has one.

I'll give him a call. One of the big box stores has a handful of these for pretty cheap for decent sized good looking trees. I was planning on a Hoopsii, but if this doesn't get too wide then I will go with this one. I have been spending a little too much on plants this year and if I can swing a similar tree for over a hundred less than a smaller Hoopsii then I'll go for it. I did not know Rich has the largest collection. I'll have to help him unload some surplus material then.

Thanks Dax
