Small question about ferts

I'm growing some cardinal climber from seed and it's doing fine but I read in the planting instructions not to fertilize it. Would anyone know why?

It will get truly invasive, and not flower at all.

I never would have guess that it wouldn't flower at all...Especially since that's why I grow it!
