Urgent Question.

Treviso, Italy(Zone 9a)

I'm having some work done in the backyard and unfortunately a line of the planned construction goes over a bed of mixed bulbs. I have narcisus, dafs, alliums, tulips and lilies planted there...of these the lilies have yet to bloom. They are about 1.2 meter tall and full of buds. I have to dig them up. I could plant them in a pot i guess but I think I might lose the buds...is there a way to make sure the plants survive?

The other ulbs might be lost but it's the lilies I am really attached to. I brought the bulbs over from Poland.

Help appreciated.

I have moved lilies with buds and had them open. I think the secret is to keep as much soil around the bulbs as possible so the roots are not disturbed too much. Hope it works for you.

Thanks
I've moved the bulbs...let-s see how it goes. The roots seemd to be more or less intact thanks to the layer of sand I put under the bulbs so they came right out

I too have moved lilies that were already up and didn't lose the blooms. Good luck with yours!

If you want to put them in pots, they'll survive just fine, and may even have flowers this year. If you want to transplant them now, they should do fine too. It's up to you. Sorry you have to go to all this trouble at this time of year.

If bud stems are okay then you will have blooms otherwise next year. Please dont bare the roots when you will tranplanting the bulbs.

They seem to be doing okay. I will add an update later about the eventual out come (whether the buds opened or not)

Thanks for your interest and advise.

Kaleem I need to send you a mail, I'll do it as soon as I get a chance
