Colt Rootstock on Cherry Tree

Well, One Green world told me that the Danube Cherry Tree I ordered that is supposed to arrive tomorow is on Colt rootstock. When I asked if this was dwarf, they said it makes trees of 12-15 feet. I am wondering if this is true? I ordered one of those Mt Ash Hybrids from them and two Mt Ash trees and the Cherry tree was an impuse buy.

I've got no hands-on experience with the cherry rootstocks, but 12-15 ft sounds about right for Colt - but most of the work with it has been done in the PNW and in CA - who knows how it will perform for you, in NY? (well, Jim Cummins probably does)
One of the big pluses for those PNW growers is that Colt is nematode-resistant, so trees on Colt are sometimes twice as vigorous and productive as those on Mahaleb.
Ultimately, YOU are in charge of how big your tree(s) get.

You've probably seen me reference this one before, but I still get chuckles from it - and it's dead-on correct.

Thank you Lucky. I know I can manage the size of the tree and intend too. I just wondered what I was starting out with. I should have about it before I ordered so I would have realized that they would not have theirs on the same rootstock as Raintree. I ususlly get my fruit trees from Raintree, have a lovely Tomcot Apricot, Resi Apple and Surefire Cherry from Raintree.

Well, I am sure it wil do fine here. If not, I have lots of other Cherry trees.

The trees came today and I planted the cherry. I was thinking of varius spots it could go but since I am not as happy with the rootstock as I would have been with G5, I put the tree kinda way in back, pretty near a bird planted wild cherry tree that I keep because it pollinates my big bing cherry. Guess I will find out how well it will do.
