Which large shade tree?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Does (or can) anyone tell me what tree this is. I realize the photography and the photographer are not very good. I leaned out of my den window to take it. But if you can do all those zoom things maybe you could make it better. It is large..shade tree growing naturally here....rounded crown.

Hello??/-------Oh and the one on the far left closest...when I looked at the picture there are too many trees I realized....LOL

It's a broadleaf tree. (!).

Vaguely Tilia-like, but that's about the end of the options on idents with the current pic . . . sorry!

Resin

I saved it to my desk top and I enlarged it and I used my handy dandy magnifying glass and sweetie, you're going to have to do a little bit better than that photo. Sorry.

I figured as much...will get another picture tomorrow. thanks. I know it is not Tilia

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

I see four distinct trunks, that reach the bottom of the photo (did you attend terryr's School of Snapshots?). Now I'll burn for that.

If you were to number the trunks 1-4 from left to right, which one(s) do you want ID'd?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here is a picture of the top...it is the one to the left(#1)...It has just had it's ivy cut off the trunk so the trunk will not be helpful in ID.

Sorry Dear, I did my best to get a look. I downloaded your first photo, cropped it, enlarged that, cropped it again, and enlarged a section of it and couldn't see well enough to try for an id. Now I did the same thing with your second photos and here's what I ended up with-

Another from my window again..with sun on the leaves..it looks like it is blooming (or trying to) with little brownish hanging things. the leaves are oval and sort of grouped in threes. This sounds just like SP talking. editing this to say that these particular branches are ones that have regrown after being limbed up several years ago.

I'm thinking it might be a Tilia....Basswood.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hmmmmmmm....I thought they had heart shaped leaves.

Illinois, IL(Zone 5b)

It looks like Nyssa sylvatica, but you really need to zoom in on a couple of leaves and a flower. Look for a broken twig on the ground if you can't reach one up in the tree.

Getting specimens for ID is life threatening work. I think Guy is right but could you confirm with this?

Sorry, I can't see the leaves well enough to tell if they are heart-shaped...:-(

Atmore, AL(Zone 8b)

Looks like Blackgum to me too.

Looks as if Guy nailed it. A Sourgum/Black Gum! Alternate obovate leaves and it's blooming right now which is how I would have been able to figure out what it was. I like these trees and although the blooms are insignificant, I think they add a nice touch. The last photo was great. Good photography! Add it to the PlantFiles! Share the wealth! Nice detail in that image.

Thanks....I finally know what this tree is. My husband kept saying "it's a pin oak" GEEEZ Even I knew it wasn't that. Stick to the Thoracic area!
