The bloom stocks are not as high this time. I think I have too much light. I have reduced the amount of light by half on two shelves but will keep the amount of time the lights are on the same. Right now there are four 4 ft lights on each shelf. I simply turned two lights on each shelf off. Maybe the blooms will grow a little taller and the leaves will relax a little more.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Mine is just blooming again ! I took pictures of her early this morning ! As soon as I get them out of the camera you will see her :))
I love her she is so pretty. New flowers and zillions of blueberry buds !
I put down about 6-8 leaves of her to share :)) . I'm sending Jill a couple leaves in her trade box next week !

Silver Spring, MD

Jill will love this one. I think of all my plants the Optimara's are the hardiest. They just keep growing and blooming no matter what. And in all types of environment.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes and Annabelle is really different ! They have her on Special again for short time only. !!
Lorry take pictures of your Annabelle please and post them here !
I will get mine out of the camera later. Funny I took them around 8 am. Mine grows mosty on table a 3 or more feet from window so my foliage is not tight but not leggy either very nice even though I've taken so many leaves off !

Silver Spring, MD

I hope lessening the light solves several minor problems I have been having.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I love her! Her little bells make me think of campanula !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes it does ! I have to say she blooms all the time, grows nice but I have no babies on her 8 or so leaves I put down :((

Silver Spring, MD

I just put down leaves Monday. Did I read on the forum that Optimara doesn't want people propagating their varieties? If that is true, should we be putting leaves down?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I don't know if their varieties are legally restricted, but even if so, I believe that generally applies to commercial sales... so I think as long as you are trading and not selling the plants, you'd be OK.

Allison, I'm very excited about growing out 'Annabelle'! I have a 1 year old neighbor by that name, and I must grow a plant for her!

Nanna, I'm glad you're getting a 'Silver Wings'! We talked about how striking those blooms were in Allison's photos. It's on my wish list too, and I know I'll be able to get a leaf from you down the line!

Silver Spring, MD

what ever I have is yours!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Likewise!!

:-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

It means you cannot use one of their plants as a parent .You could do so but never register your plant as to register you must have writen permission from owner of parent hybridizer.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Who has Annabelle on sale again? I would love to have one like her.

Jesse

Silver Spring, MD

Optimara using Selective Gardener. It's $12.00. A little pricey.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

OH Jill I can send you a Silver Wings baby or leaf in your trade box what ever you's like !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh yes my Annabelle might not get out of the camera until tomorrow . Hubby had to make soil and water and too many household duties and I could not stay awake. So she will come out tomorrow !
Lorry we need your picture of your Annabelle !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Critterologist...it's odd that you are all talking about Annabelle as I just ordered 2 of them today. Does anyone know if it is the first in their Belle Series? When I saw the pic on Selective Gardener, I liked it right away. Something different. I believe the shipping cost was the same (7.95) whether buying one or two.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, Snowrose, I can tell you are my newest friend! :-) In case I goof up with Allison's leaves of Annabelle, I can snitch a leaf from one of your plants....

I'm so happy to have a new DGer right here in Frederick (!!) who also loves African Violets!!! Welcome to the AV forum, Snowrose!

Allison, I would adore a 'Silver Wings' baby if you have an extra, otherwise a leaf would be fine also. Thank you!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thank you for the welcome! This is my first time on any forum anywhere. You certainly are welcome to some Annabelle leaves or suckers as I notice many Optimaras have a few when received.

Silver Spring, MD

Hey there, Snowrose. Welcome.

Annabelle is the first in a new series. As far as I know she is the only one available. You will love her. The blue bells are beautiful and very plentiful. This is my second blooming. I received the plant in full bloom in late March. The weather was a lettle cold for her but she made a wonderful recovery.

Hope you enjoy your Annabelle as much as Allison, Lory, and I have enjoyed ours.
Welcome, again, to the forum. Hope to hear lots from you.

Nanna

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

In the Sourthern Belle Series there is Isabelle . Not sure if I spelled this correct.
I am pretty sure she came before Annabelle. Annabelle is the newest and exclusive to Selective Gardners which is part of Optimara. Annabelle is so fine and I don't feel she is going to be a suckering plant. She is different and doliage much different than any other Optimara's. Jill if Snow is getting two plants and she does not mind giving you leaves this will be even better for me as I have already taken about 8 leaves off my plant . I do have them down to grow babies to share though ! She is Special to me ! Now in her second bloom full of deep blue bells and zillions of blueberry buds !
Snow shipping is really good. I ordered some food and other pots to try...and my shipping was still $7.95 and I liked how they shipped Fed-Ex and the packaging was real nice !
OK Isabelle they had leaves for sale of her for I think $8.00 a set. And I was going to order them next time. But last I looked I did not see them for sale . When I bought my Annabelle her leaves were selling for $9.00 a set and now I think they may be $8.00 but with the sale special price of Annabelle now better to go ahead and pay $12.00 and get the plant !
After I had mine several weeks I potted her into a new 4 inch azeala pot. But then she was growing and her root system is strong and healthy. She has been now in a 5 inch azeal pot well over a month !

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yesterday morning early AM before Nanna even posted this was funny before the sun even came up I took some pictures of my Annabelle coming into a new bloom . When she blooms she blooms strong long lasting and she gets zillions of pretty deep blueberry buds ! They just keep on opening. My Annabelle like to grow in natural light. We can enjoy her more there then on the plant stand .
She is a few feet from the window but gets light from side windows too even though their a good 6 feet or more from her. She's happy I'm happy !

In a week or so some more of her zillions of blueberry buds will open and I will take more pictures !

Can you see some of her blueberry buds ! I must say she is even more striking in person. If you want one of the most beautiful Av's with hard to find bells, grows nice and easy and ever blooming love a real deep blue BUY Annabelle !
If you can't buy her I should have lot's of babies by Fall.

Ok where's Lorry's up-dates Anaabelle picture !
Jill I have a baby you may have , I just know some people prefer a leaf sometimes. I will add into your trade box :))
She is fablous and my Russian Snow Leopard is spcial too ! I will be sending one of her too !
Another plant that has grown good for me just starting to bloom again, in a 5 inch azeal pot a good 14 inches across looking good ! I put many leaves of her down, gave many leaves and lots of babies away I bet ten babies Who has one ! I just bought her a small plant 2.50 inch pot begin Nov 2005.
My Guelph's Christmas (9120) 04/20/2002 (J. Brownlie/Guelph University) Semidouble-double fuchsia large frilled star/thin white-green edge. Medium green, quilted, glossy, wavy, serrated/red back. Large
Though her flowers are large and beautiful she is such a large plant I feel she needs a lot of them to look right .

Nanna did you see my Annabelle up-date picture I took yesterday morn !

Silver Spring, MD

Yes, Allison, I just saw the pictures. Very beautiful. I just love the bell blooms.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Ues me too ! She is a sweet plant to own !
Now if we can get Lorry to post her picture up-date !

Silver Spring, MD

Patience, Allison. Patience.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Patience what's this ?
I have it but I don't think she saw this thread or she would have answered.
I do have good Patience / but not mauch time.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hehe see the Lorry post :)
I don't have her any longer :) Just leaves down :)
I gave her to my friend's mom for mothers day :) She loves optimara plants :)

Silver Spring, MD

That was very sweet, Lorry.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lorry, that was very sweet ! You are sweet !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I do have leaves down :) But she went so crazy for it..I just had to share. The leaves seem to be doing fine though :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I have leaves down also they look good but no babies. I know they babies can hide for a long time then come popping out ! I did put several down as I thought people will like her and I'll hve plenty to share for those who would enjoy one !
i give away my favorite plant if I feel someone will enjoy it more ! I do this often too !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I find most optimaras really propogate well from leaf :)

Silver Spring, MD

You have both given me some very good insight. Thanks for posting.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, Allison, a baby 'Annabelle'?? That would be fabulous! But I know I can get leaves from Snowrose to put down too, so I'm OK either way. Don't take another leaf from your shrinking plant! I am really looking forward to growing her, as well as your awesome Russian Snow Leopard and maybe also Silver Wings.... WOW! I'm just dancing with anticipation here!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I do have Silver Wings and Russian Snow Leopard babies now for you !
Sense Snow is buying two if she does not mind giving up a couple leaves if not I will gladly take two more off. OR I have about 8 leaves down and will have a plant for you around Fall if none above go threw. lol
I'm hoping to have lot's of her babies to share she is so beautiful !
