Good Morning Everyone,
Glad you could join us. Have a cuppa, sit and chat for a while or drop back in later when you get a chance.
We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/600706/
Coffee and....Thursday, May 11
Well, it is May 11th, I have visited the forums I normally watch, and am getting ready for bed. DH is still outside cleaning fish. So that is 3 + hours on his fishing trip tonight. Dedicated fisher person!!.
Goodnight all, gotta get up early, so I'm gone.
Good morning. I think I'm the first REAL morning person today. Been awake since a bit after 4, but finally got up around 6. Unusual for me as i generally sleep better in the morning. Now 6:20, I hear neighbours heading out to work on their motorcycles right on schedule.
Daylily question. Is it you, Bonnie, who has lots? Anyway, I started some seeds from one of mine and I had good germination. I know they might be quite different, but what I'm really wondering is how long they take to be large enough to flower.I think I'll keep them in pots for awhile.
My yard is just a standard (for 30 yrs ago) city lot 60 x 100 feet with maybe 20 feet of city easement at the front. I have to keep to smaller Hostas for the most part.
Glad you have the care in place to allow DM to come home and get the help she needs.
Re DH and his fish - is there a food bank or meal program nearby which would accept some of the fish? No point in buying another freezer. The cost of running all those freezers would be more than the savings from catching the fish. And if they are all full, you'll never be able to use it all before it deteriorates too much. If you can't give it awa, I guess you'll have to invite us all for a fish fry.
Well, I think I'll use the time to work on my newsletter. Will be busy today. Should go to a funeral, but I don't think I'll make it. DH is giving a talk to a retirees' group at noon on the bridge to Prince Edward Island. As an ice expert, he was a consultant on the bridge and I think they still have it monitored to measure the forces of ice on the piers. Anyway, I will have to pick up the twins and get them to Kindermusik. And while I'm at it, I'd like to do some west-end errands.
Last bell practice for the season tonight. So many are missing at the end of May that we've cancelled the performance date. A few of us will do small ensemble stuff instead.
Have a good day.
Ann
OMG I have been awaken by natures air freshner....ode de shunk. It is strong enough to water my eyes...Gladys is out barking her head off and hopefully does'nt find it.
Waves to all as I can't remember who did what as I have had no coffee yet. Ahhh it's done now, will have some, re-read posts and bbl for comment....Lauri
Hi!! I get computer time today since DH is out of town. I need to catch up on yesterday's posts. Still pretty achey from gardening but we're supposed to have a week of showers, so that will be time to rest up. BBL
VAnn,
I have lots of daylilies, but certainly not a lot of years of experience. However, I have 6 DL's I started from seed. They are in their 2nd year and I am hoping for blooms this summer.
The hybridizers have some magic that they perform (so I've heard) where they can push new DL's into blooming earlier. Not sure what magic.
Lucky us, we did have some more rain while we slept. We get another day letting the pump rest.
I need to take a walk down to the road to look at the ditch lilies, they ought to be doing real good after all this rain!
Molly
:^)))
Good aching morning....I am still a major pain from all my bending and digging and planting. BUT we have several days of rain in the forecast, so I can rest these weary bones.
Did we have a long night last night - DIL won an award where she teaches. It was county wide- she was one of 12 teachers honored -and quite an honor it was. Ceremony and reception lasted 3 hrs - plenty of tears and applause. These were all special ed teachers. They had a power point show for each winner - so so touching.
We got to sit in the front as her mom and dad are hearing impaired, so they had a signer for them. We stopped at Wendys for a drive thru burger at 10:30pm - that burger laid in my stomach all night!! Plus I had to drive home in the rain - new glasses didn't help a bit (I can barely see at night....)
Kooger - congrads to you!! Bout time this got settled!
DR - have a wonderful time in Hawaii!! And many thanks for the dalhia tubers- they are snug in their new home.
Mary, I feel as stiff as Patch!! And I didnt even get kicked!
Hope - great poem. My mom always told my sister and I to alwasy do something that we didn't have to depend on a man to support us. We both did - I have never had the fear that I had to stay married, because I didn't.
Carat - I've had zip luck starting daylily seeds, but am going to try it again this year. I just can't get enough. One of the mags my mom brought out (Good housekeeping or Better Homes and Gardens) had an article/pic of a gal who left the corporate world and went into raising daylilies. Beautiful pics!!
Defoe- Holey Moley, HOW many fish??? I can't imagine all those freezers full. Does DH farm his own worms? Do you used the 'guts' in the garden? I imagine they would be great fertilizer...
Well, time to have some breakfast and then off to h/p
m5-My horse Jared eats dandelions! He's the only one I've seen eat them!! But the hoofs would be a little tough on the lawn. Well, I guess it's aeration.
Molly-VERY scary about those fires! Glad you got some rain.
Elaine-I love the story of your DH's miracle, and your trip sounded just great! It is always good to get back to your own home, bed, (and maters of course).
4paws-my muscles hurt just thinking about all the stuff you had to unload. DId you get the goat? It will be fun to hear about that adventure!
FlamingoCarole-I read about your herbicide mishap-are your plants surviving? That was just a dreadful mistake!!
Mary-Wow you're still crazy busy, that's funny that Breezy got a cow job! Didn't realize you were a cowgirl too! Took a couple 4 to 5 hour trail rides last week and boy do I admire your endurance riding after those! I just know I couldn't do that all day.
Kooger-congratulations! I had read the whole thread before realizing how long ago it was. Glad it turned out well for you!!
defoe-read your post about the several thousand dollar horse and was hoping for a picture! Now you are going to love her, and there will be a foal, so it's probably more appropriate for me to be excited for you! Please post pictures. I don't have an inkling of a name though. Sounds like you have two full time jobs worth of paperwork.
lauri-Did your dog get skunked??
Molly-Have you considered rain barrels or a cistern for keeping a water supply? could be handy in case of fires
sarv-Good aching morning to you too! OMG my knees are killing me! I have managed to avoid big time knee problems but I've really done something now.....Congrats to DIL!!!
sarv, Congrats to DIL that is great hope you get lots of pics. I discovered I have a couple of un-used muscles in my shoulders..
dmc. nope Gladys did'nt get it this time. It was out in the field and she can't get there unless someone opens the gate, Thank heavens...Salsa, my horse eats dandelions too loves them, he also will edge the lawn so no weedeating.
Vann your energy amazes me, good luck with your dl's I can't get them to stay alive after they sprout... Lauri
dmc,
Being a house painter, I have a multitude of 5 gallon buckets sitting around for every use you can imagine.
We haul water, dig mulch, store potting soil, manure, 4" pots, dippers, crushed beer cans.
These last few days with the predictions of rain, I have turned all the 5 gallon buckets, rubbermaid bins and wheel barrow upright to catch water. I have collected a total of 15 gallons of water from these rains. I already used 5 for transplanting yesterday. I was just out consolidating this morning. Have a full 5 gallon now. Put a lid on it to keep the skeeters from laying eggs in there.
We also have a large plastic drum Jeremy found that we need to seal a crack in, drill a hole for a spiggot for a soaker hose hookup.
Being in drought for so long, all the containers have been used simply for hauling water from my well to the plants down the driveway.
Well, since I haven't gotten that building permit turned in yet, I better get it finished up. Don't know why I've been dragging my behind on the issue. I did the supply listing/costs yesterday. I was going to do the front and back porches on one permit, but the valuation on both combined will equal more than I anticipated, which complicates things a touch. So I will change my thinking and just put in for the front porch/orchid house for now.
I also had to change my thinking on the latice slats. The cost of those are $ .55 a lin foot. An 8 ft length runs $4.40, pretty costly considering I can get a pre-made 4' x 8' sheet for under $10.
Well, enough talk, I better kick my self into gear and get the paperwork changed and completed. Then grocery shopping since both freezers are near bare.
Molly
Oh, yeah, Bonnie, both my freezers are bare, (here fishy, fishy, fishy) Darius is up your way. Maybe she could bring a load down on dry ice. Wouldn't that be cool?
'Morning all!
thanks to all who asked about my plants that were accidently sprayed with the killer stuff.
2 of the brugs look like they might be goners. They were only about 14" high and not the best looking of the lot. The others were pretty big limb cuttings from last years bounty. So far they are still looking ok. We also had a huge amount of rain yesterday afternoon/evening which I would like to believe maybe helped dilute some of the solution in the soil (I think that is wishful thinking since roundup does not work that way).
Elaine, I sent you that rain, lol. I knew you would enjoy it!
Molly, thanks for the pic of the passion flower. I picked up a plant about 5 yrs ago in florida. Did really great up here in atlanta but spent the next 3 yrs pulling it up everywhere!
Needless to say, the mother plant went bye-bye. Don't know much about them but I suspect I bought one of those varieties that become invasive? Are there ones that behave themselves?
I have been following Kooger's story. What a wonderful ending! Congratulations to you!
Defoe, you can ALWAYS dry ice and ship those fish. I'm sure I will have company in that line, lol.
Well, the phones are starting to demand my attention here at work. Don't those customers know I'm conducting important business here?!
Sorry to those I have missed, have a good day all!
carole in atlanta
PS...WHAT IS CRS?? I have obviously missed something here!
Carole in Atlanta,
First, CRS is "can't remember squat" to put it delicately.
As for the passion vines. I had one I couldn't keep alive. Another 2 that I grew on a chain link fence to block the ugly view to the neightbors in the back. One of those was purple and one was red. I don't know which one was throwing off vines into the back yard. Those were easy to keep down with the mower. The tough part was keeping the ones on top of the fence from reaching up and climbing the cassia trees in those neighbors yard. I had to get on an 8 foot ladder to pull them down. I didn't want them to kill the tree. Anyway, I left all that with my X to contend with. He got to keep some of the joys of my gardening as well as the foes and perils.
This passion vine looks to be one of the Florida Natives. We'll see how well it behaves. Anyway, I have lots of room here for all.
Molly
Carole, for me CRS is Can't Remember Stuff...I may need ginko. Yes some people just don't know to wait while we conduct the important business, that said I guess I'll answer the phone......Lauri
Good morning, you dirty girlsl! (And boys,) shall we add up all the hours we've spent our there getting into the flower beds? We've all been trying to catch up and I wondered too if it wasn't just winter last week! Did some more puttering around after DH got home. He's beheading dandelions and digging some out, before they get gigantic or go to seed. Send in the horses!
The new horse sounds like a beauty, Bonnie, although I would choke on the price, too. Can't wait to see pics of your DGD on it. She's going to be thrilled! You've surely had a busy week. I know what you mean by the paper piles, I just cleaned off my desk, and filed a whole bunch of paperwork, and it looks like I didn't do a thing. I suspect it's mutating and reproducing when I'm not looking. Last week I even went through the "paid" bills drawer and cleaned out two years worth of old stuff and filled the paper shredder twice. No point in keeping monthly bills more than two years, if you were behind they would certainly have let you know before now.
What I didn't find were receipts for shrubs that have not survived, so DH must have those buried in his paper collection somewhere.
Speaking of survival, FC, I hope your older plants make it through the Roundup atack. The rain should help, as I believe it is absorbed through the foliage, and it shouldn't soak down to the root systems. What a bonanza to be able to go rescue plants from old homesteads, you know they will be hardy and do well. My SM used to always have a shovel and a bushel basket in the trunk of DF's car in case she spotted a wild rose or an old house that was abandoned that had lilacs, or iris, or something still growing. She was such a bandit!! She is the one who gave me the gardening bug and I am ever grateful!
I'd tell you what CRS is but unfortunately I Can't Remember
Elaine, I was just cheering for Kooger's successful application renewal, so there's nothing more wrong with me than my usual insanity. It is nice to sleep in your own bed, isn't it? The first thought that crossed my mind when my DS sold their lake house was that I wouldn't have to sleep in that awful guest room bed any more! It was so old, it didn't have a real innerspring, and sagged so badly in the middle that if you were a stomach sleeper there was no way you could lay face down. If DH and I shared it, we both rolled into the middle whether we wanted to or not! The other choice was a pull out sofa in the living room, and that was even worse. LOL
Molly, I'd save as much rain water as I could, too. Even though we get rain throughout the summer, it isn't always dependable. We've talked about putting a storage container of some kind under the deck and running a downspout to it, but there are always other more urgent outdoor tasks diverting our time. We have those lattice slats around the underside of the deck, and that is pricey for them considering they aren't made of good wood and are pretty flimsy. I'm hoping to cover ours with vines this summer.
DH said he didn't need to take a shower this morning, Sammi gave him a thorough face and neck wash to wake him up for breakfast. Sammi wants breakfast immediately when he wakes up, and run to the kitchen complaining that he hasn't eaten in days. I am buying Iams in the biggest bag I can get these days, he has a huge appetite to match his paws.
I potted up some of my volunteer Valerian for our mini-round up in Janesville in June. I didn't know they were such "vigorous growers" as the garden centers like to call invasive perennials...but where I have them they can fill the whole bed if they want to. I just went after the strays that went off site. They have a lovely scent, some say you can make herbal tea from them, but I'm happy for their willingness to grow and fill up that shady spot.
All the volunteer Alyssum and Snaps are coming up along the stone steps, so there will be a cascade there later. Last night I dreamed that someone from the town or county came and told me we weren't allowed to use black plastic for weed control! LOL Like they could see it under the wood chips!
FourPaws, you taught your DH to drive? I can't teach mine to rinse his plate in the disposal side of the double sink!! He is a good driver though, and politely does not comment when I am behind the wheel. Since I have excellent peripheral vision I have caught an occasional grimace or eye roll, however.
Dmcd, bring on the horse....he can eat as many dandelions as he wants, we get hoof prints anyway from the deer that occasionally run through the yard. A couple years ago one was napping in the Artemesia, we could see where it had flattened out a nice cozy spot. It did that for several nights and then must have decided the neighborhood was too noisy, or too light to suit him, and moved on.
Well, I'm going to call it quits, ~~~~ to Maria, and all the rest of the gang, duty calls. Going to rain all day so it's time to chase dust bunnies and collect stuff to fill up the Goodwill bag. I need to do some major culling in my closets and drawers. What's the rule, if you haven't worn it in three years, get rid of it? I think I'm well over that time limit for a number of things.
Later,
Sheila
Well today is a short day of rest for me. So I thought I would check on these places in here.
NOW. As to the old girls. Let me just say that I said old girls. Now little girls are toddlers and pre schoolers to me. Young girls are from there on to teens. Sooooooo to ME a old girl might have been something in the 20's. I did not say old hag, are indicate anything of that nature. NO NOT ME. However Defocat I noticed made a remark relating you all to a herd of dairy cattle. Geezzzzzz. She said that not me.
What kind of fish was you husband catching defocat. Largemouth bass are hot here right now. I took over 21lbs (5 fish) to win a 3 1/2 hour tournament last wednesday evening from 7:30 to 11:00. Looks like the lake is returning to its ways. I do not do tournaments anymore ,getting to old. My best tournament string was 5 Largemouth bass at 26. 37 lbs. Was best stringer I have ever put together. Was 3 over 6lbs.
Well my riding lesson of 40-somethings women called ourselved hags on nags...but don't let anyone else say that!!!
Morning everyone
Well Molly ... love your definition of CRS. When I use that my DH always thinks I'm referring to *his* definition and I tell him that's just not so. He learned his in the locker room. *smile* Now I have a great come back. Wow at all those paint buckets. Do you realize what I'm paying for those suckers at WM? You lucky dog, you! LOL
Carole~ thanks for that rain. I put out my buckets also and have a wee bit to use for the next day or so. It won't last long, though, so remember me on the GA line anytime you're sending rain this way!
Vi~ I have seen you post mostly here as it's hard for me to watch a lot of the different threads. Until recently, I didn't have any hosta so didn't have that on my watch list. You mostly talk about your music and other loves here at coffee. :) Just never realized how *many* of those you had. That must be a sight!
sarv~ oh how wonderful for your DIL. I know you must be very proud of her. And your DS must be also. Sounds like a wonderful night.
Mary~ I know I've said it before but I'm constantly amazed at your stamina. I get tired just reading about all you do.
Lauriwilson~ whew ... what a way to wake up! LOL
Hi Defoe ... well now that your fish problems have been solved ... be sure and put my name on a pack when you're shipping out. LOL We'd all come to your place but honestly girl ... sounds like you've got enough on your plate right now! Hope your DM and DMIL both get along okay. Don't get buried in all that paperwork. It's a good thing they don't have to depend on me, as that's not my forte.
Meezers, when you get through in your closets ... how bout coming over? Hmm, maybe I should say down. LOL
oz, now there's a good way to talk your way outta one. :) Congrats on your fishing.
Well, am going to stop here cause I've got the dreaded CRS so will just wave to you DMC, Maria, Kooger, and anyone else I'm forgetting. I need another cuppa! :)
~~~Elaine
P.S.
McCool, I still haven't received any Dmail from you.
Good morning. 45 and sunny, no wind, my kind of morning!
Congratulations to Kooger on outlasting the INS and getting to stay here. I do hope they refund all the extra money you had to spend for their mistakes, but of course you will never be compensated for your time, frustration and the cost of gas.
Molly, that passion flower is the most interesting bloom I have ever seen. It looks like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be so it tried to be everything. Tropical things are so exotic.
Dmc, I work part time for my neighbor who raises cattle and sheep. There are a lot of things that two people can do much easier than one, and there are things one person just can't do at all. His wife works in town so is only available on the weekends. Yesterday's job in the corral only took about an hour and then we moved the yearlings and I was done. Any time there are animals to be moved I do it by horseback. The ranch owner uses a small motorcycle, but there are places I can go with a horse that he can't get into (or out of sometimes) with his bike, and it is an excuse to get out there with Breezy doing something instead of just putting miles on him. Jake, the border collie helps too, he can get into brushy places where I can't go with a horse. Cows go in, dog goes in, cows come out. A good dog is another farmhand.
Meezer, I used to put one of my horses in the yard to graze before I started finding old flower beds and decided to make it look good again. I called him a riding lawn mower. You could plant daffodills or crocus in the footprints the visiting deer are leaving and call it naturalized.
I just ran out and moved the sprinklers, things are dry enough here to need watering already, and I won't be here this weekend to do it, so I started yesterday. I use a combination of sprinklers, depending on the shape of the space. Today I need to mulch what I watered yesterday. Somebody here was saying that they were raking the debris off the flower beds that the mower had discharged there, I had to chuckle because I use my grass clippings for flower bed mulch and even spread some in the vegie garden, a very thin layer right on the rows to help hold in moisture while the seeds germinate, and later I use my clippings to mulch around the plants.
I've read everybodys posts and now can't remember who said what. CRS in action!
Anyhow, today is crunch day since I leave tomorrow morning, so I have a few things to do today. I might even get that rhubarb cobbler done, but only if I get up off my behind. See you later, ~~~ catch that wave.
Just a quick note to Meezers....I also carry around a shove and a large pot around in my truck along with some basic tools . DH just rolls his eyes when I ask him to come out and help me unload something. Keeps telling me he is not going to bail me out of jail when I get arrested! But I only go into areas where they are doing 'tear downs'. They just come in and bulldoze everything flat. I have gotten some beautiful intricate wrought iron posts, railings, etc. that I have incorporated into trellis' and most of my yard is stuff I have dug up.
Also, glad to hear somebody else has a problem with DH not rinsing dishes on this dispoal side!
Hi Again Folks,
Gonna try to stay on top of things at least for awhile. LOL
Been out to Aquafit. Decided against the funeral. Will send a card and maybe make a donation to one of the organizations with which she was involved. Can't do everything and truthfully, I haven't seen her for a few years.
Spent a few minutes when I got home hoeing weeds in the garden. With new top soil, I've got a new crop of weeks. BTW, I LOVE the Lee Valley loop hoe. It's small and gets in between the plants easily. Just have to be careful not to get overenthusiastic. http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&p=10421&cat=2,44823&ap=1
Lauri - what a way to wake up. Yuck! We sometimes get if around here in the middle of the night. Certainly have seen skunks parading across the street at times.
Sarv - what a wonderful honour for your DIL. Special Ed teachers deserve special medals for what they do. I got my daylily seeds started by soaking them for a day much like I do morning glory seeds. Hope I can keep them going.
Hi to dmc. Glad you got on the computer again.
Molly, good on the rain collection. Hope you are able to collect even more and hope the fires stay away. Thanks to you (and others) for the meanings of CRS. I didn't know either. LOL
FlamingoCarole sorry about the brugs. Still keeping my fingers crossed about the other plants. maybe you will experience a miracle.
Elaine, I guess there's a long time in Ottawa when we don't do much gardening - from October to April. Since most of the conversation on "Coffee" has been during that time, I guess I've focussed on other things. Now that gardening season has arrived in Ottawa, watch me go!
FlamingoCarole again, I'm with you on salvaging plants and other misc. stuff. Go for it. If it's just gonna be bulldozed anyway, somebody might as well enjoy it.
Gotta go. Want to return a soap dish to Linens and Things this afternoon. It's a few weeks old and the white soap turn green in it. Heavy duty metal (pewter?) two pieces with drain holes. Cost me $20 and shouldn't turn green. And if I get my act together, I'll phone in an order to Lee Valley tools while I'm in the west end of town.
Ann
Am wondering ... has anyone had any trouble with their Dmail? McCool sent me mail last night and if she hadn't mentioned it on coffee I'd never known it. Sort of makes me wonder who else has dropped me a line. I had one disappear a couple weeks back when DG was having all those problems, but wasn't aware of any since. Anyone else?
Just peeking in for a moment to see what's up. Sarv, I forgot to say congrats to your DIl for her excellent awards! Special Ed teachers seem to have infinite patience and much skill, for a job that's a daily challenge and must sometimes be frustrating. In fact, all teachers must have those qualities or they wouldn't be able to stay in that job. My dad taught school, and I vowed it would be one job on my Don't Ever Do That list. I've trained adults, but that's a whole other spectrum. Good for her! I hate driving in the rain too, wet shiny roads just petrify me.
More work to do. Later.
Sheila
Hello Ladies, i'm here reading ,lurking.. CRS for me is can't remember Nothing! for real.. i had to pot some brugs up in living room so could sit on floor if out side i maybe could not get up so i improvise- my way.I think or hoping the rain is so over..I actually see the sun.. I never could get a passion flower to grow for me much. have great day.. bye now.. Twyla
It's been pouring rain all day- windy and down to 44 deg. I just cranked on the furnace. Downright miserable. I spent the entire day on the road. First to H/P, dollar store, library, WM, Fruit Basket and Arbys for a jamoka shake!! Now I'm home sitting on the heating pad...with my cat at my side. Wish someone would make me dinner!! LOL
Oz. how does your foot taste?? LOL You're never gonna live the 'old girls' d
own...But maybe if you made each of us a little something....
VI - good luck returning things. I just hate to do that. I am getting better at saving receipts. I have an accordian like thing with each month on it. I stuff receipts into the correct month. Well, I meant to do that, I have a huge pile to get filed..maybe tomorrow.
Love Passion vines, but they don't over winter here. I had one for a couple of years, but it never did as well as it did the first year. They certainly are exotic looking tho. Mary, I"d love some of those buckets - you can never have too many...
Mary good luck on your ride!!
I stopped at Kohl's and managed to drop over 100 bucks on some new capris. Got a bigger size...darn dryer shrunk last years clothes....LOL
time for my afternoon snack
Lunch time. Sarv, Molly is the bucket lady, paint buckets. You were close tho, just got your M's mixed up. Congratulations to your daughter in law on her teaching award. Hmmm, don't put those new pants in the dryer!
I've been replacing potting soil in some of my half barrels and getting them planted, dumping the old dirt in a new flower bed that I'm leveling up, pulling weeds, moving the sprinklers, a little of this and a little of that. I still have some things in the greenhouse to repot and some things to plant in a flower bed, need to water the vegie rows, spread the mulch that's waiting in a wheelbarrow and getting kinda hot and stinky, but I am making progress!
ViAnn, you haven't mentioned your successor at the FC lately. Is he managing to keep his job and the volunteer help? I hope you were able to return the soap dish, there's definitely something wrong there. Maybe others have also returned them and they already know about it.
Gotta tell you my favorite return story. I recieved a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle of one of my least favorite actors as a gag gift from somebody who knew I disliked the actor. We all got a laugh, but then a couple of weeks later I took it to Walmart, with it's plastic wrapper still around the box, and got a refund! Cool, huh? and I got the last laugh and the money, too.
Back to work. See you later, maybe.
Well today was grocery/errand day plus dentist appointment early this morning. I thought I was just getting the wires tightened, but they put on little plastic chains this time. I don't know why, maybe they tighten better. I just open my mouth, and they do the work. Don't ask many questions. We have had rain, yesterday afternoon, storms last night, and has rained all day today. It has also turned cooler, and the furnace came on this morning. Had a good chat with 101 this afternoon, she sure had fun on her trip, and made some good memories. Hope you didn't mind my sharing that. You sounded like a kid at Christmas!!!
Viann, I don't have a lot of daylilies, but do love them. I have started seeds, and have several babies right now. Usually, I leave mine in pots, until they are big enough to plant out. I have had some bloom the second year, but usually it is 3 years. No we don't have a food kitchen, in this area. Sure wish we did so that we could share.
lauriewilson, ewww, glad it didn't get the dog.
dmc, computer time, yeah. I will try to get pics of the new horse this weekend.
Molly, we catch rain here, but unless it is in a covered container, the mosquitos are horrible.
Sarv, I have tried using the fish guts in the garden, but the dogs always find them, dig them up, and roll in them. Either have to give Mr. B a bath or avoid him. DH does have a small worm farm, and a minnow pond. So doesnt need to buy much bait.
Molly, tell Darius to stop by, we will fix you up with a mess of fish.
FC glad that it appears that your watering saved most of your plant. Oh, and by the way, most of my days have CRS moments!!
M5, the utility companies must use only paper that multiplies. I can get everything caught up, and within 2 days, it looks like it has never been touched.
Oz, Bluegill, crappie,Shell crackers, not many cat fish yet. DH hooked a bass about 18" long the other night, and just as he got him to the bank, threw the hook, and got away.
101~~~ at you.
Mary, I was the one complaining about the grass clippings. I know that they make good mulch, but he had covered some new little volunteers in a bed that I had been hoping I could transplant.
Hope, me getting down is easy, up is the hard part.
Mary, you sure have gotten a lot accomplished today. Sorry that you are already having to water. Seems early to have to do that.
Well, we had fish for supper last night, and a neighbor called and invited us over to eat tonight, and guess what? She is having fish. So am real glad that we like it.
Will check in later, after we get home.
Wow, y'all make me tired!! The only thing tired today is my mouth! LOL
Enjoyed our talk Defoe, also. Nope, didn't mind you sharing. Sometimes I just can't contain myself. Oh and speaking of stinky. I had a guide dog dig up some fish guts that were buried in the woods one time. The DH and I love to go walking in the woods. I noticed she was sniffing and scratching around while we were taking a break ... but hey, that's what a dog does in the woods, right? Well, in a jiffy she had drug up this present for me. Yuck yuck! It was an old bread bag full of fish guts that were *really* rotten! Whew! We had to throw her in a pond and bathe her just so we could stand being around her. The green slime from the water was preferrable to that!
Mary had to LOL at your return story. Too cute! You *did* get the last laugh!
sarv, what kind of dryer do you have? It must be the same kind I have. Mine has been malfunctioning like that also. :)
Well heck ... that was the DH. Thought I'd have a bit more time.
P.S.
McCool did you get my reply Dmail? Thought I'd better be sure. :)
Well I had a pleasent?? surprise out in my driveway this afternoon. I was out in the back and Gladys started barking like someone was going to kill her out front so I jumped up....o.k. I struggled to get up off the ground...and got around the house to find the most beautiful black, roughly 2,500 lb, Limosine(sp) Bull standing there at the yard gate, and when he saw me he started bawling like he wanted in. He is from the herd across the road so I went and got a bucket of sweet grain and found out he is an old show bull. He followed me out the drive and across the road and into the pasture again only pausing for bites of grain so I left him the bucket of grain and will have to retrive the bucket later. Gotta go finish the front beds before I get too stiff to move...bbl...Lauri
Hi Folks,
I'll check in and then check out for the evening.
PIcked up the twins and took them to Kindermusic. Pasrent (grandparents) get a chance to sit and chat for the first 30 minutes or so and I got some crocheting done. DH came by at the end of the class and we swapped cars. He took them home for the afternoon and then went from their house to the airport. (It's much closer than our house is. He's gone to Newfoundland for a day trip and left early evening.) That left me free to drop by out ISP and get more filters for the telephones. We are still having a lot of interference from the high speed Internet with our phone lines. We've tried a different modem with no success. Now we'll exchange the filters and see if that makes a difference. That wasn't on the original plan, but they called this morning just before I left and they are close to my daughter's house.
Then I returned the soap dish. If I'd returned it two days earlier I'd have gotten a full refund. But I'd had it long enough that I had to settle for a store credit. That's OK. But they didn't have anything else I wanted right now. I bought another soap dish at another store on the way home. Very few of them out there that have any drainage so the soap doesn't stay wet; so I'm back to one of those plastic things to hold the soap up. This one is ceramic. Hopefully it won't react with the soap and turn purple or something.
Was home for a short time before heading out to bells. A short practice for all. I divided the group into two small groups and we tried doing a "cross and stretch" which is a similated Plain Hunt ring.
http://changeringing.lsalmon.net/data/cross_and_stretch.htm
One group got it right off. The other group tried it twice and didn't get it right, but had a good laugh. It involves ringing the bells in a descending scale. then you ring again and each ringer switches the bells from one hand to the other. The next time they ring, the bells get passed to the neighbour except for the people on the ends. And it continues, alternating between crossing and stretching (or passing). Eventually you get to the half-way point which sounds the scale going up and finally it gets back to where they started.
Then three of us spent another hour practicing a trio which we will play on May 28.
Picked up a bag of manure on the way home and will try to move some hostas tomorrow if it's not raining too much in the afternoon. Aquafit in the am and the second Friday of each month, the Aquafit group goes out for brunch.
Mary, you asked about successor at the FC. Well, I think he may finally have learned how to do stats sort of. His 5 page report to the Board meeting last night said he spent the weekend working on a training document on how to do stats. I say that' putting the cart before the horse if he has yet to actually produce a good report. Up to that time at least, he had not yet done March or April stats.
He's a schmoozer and likes to work the community. He's been developing "training packages" for everything. A good idea, I think - I had done quite a few myself. But I tend to think he spends too much time on them and not enough on the basics. So far he seems pretty good at getting someone to do all the stuff he doesn't want to do. We'll see. He'll have a performance review soon as his six month trial period is coming up. I anticipate that he'll be kept on with no problem as he HAS addressed a number of real problems, but there certainly are things that need to be mentioned as well. So far, I think all the volunteers are still there and he's got some new ones which is to be expected.
Well, got to go collect the garbage and get it out, put some stuff (my swimming towels) in the dryer so they are dry tomorrow morning, wash the removable covers for our handbell foam which got pretty dirty when we went to another church a couple of weeks ago, and watch some TV and crochet.
Have a good night everyone.
Ann
Defoe, up until about 8 years ago our humidity levels were very low, sometimes nil. Slowly they are going up. Last year we had several days that we went over 120 degrees with humidity over 50%. According to the experts it is expected to get worse. Glad I am moving. I am willing to trade the hot blow dryer treatment for the walking around wet for awhile but sure I will be complaining about it after a while. I am never happy.
Mary, I did something similiar with a christmas gift from DH's sister. She gave me this ugly vase with a card that said she thought it looked like it belonged in my house. I had a friend place it on ebay and sold it for more then I thought it would ever be worth and bought a beautiful ring that I flash at her at every chance. Can you tell that neither of us have an ounce of like for each other.
Laurie, I would have loved to have that happen to me. Only after I move. I would be in shock here. Aren't those cows suppose to be one of the larger breeds??? Here bully, bully, bully, bully just doesn't seem as thought it would cut it.
OZ, sure wishing I lived closer. I love fish. Rest of the family doesn't care much for it so I usually dont get it often.
Well DH decided to make beer can chicken. Smells good, but I am close to starving. I guess I should really go make the salad so we will have it with dinner this time. I hope all have a great evening.
OH YEAH
What the heck is this plant. I was told it may be poison ivy. I have never seen it in person so I haven't a clue. If so how do I get rid of it?????
Casey,
The picture looks as though it might be a five-leaved plant rather than a three-leaved one. If it's five leaved it's probably just Woodbine (quite benign and rather pretty, in my opinion). If it has three leaves --- AAACCKKK! I'm a staunch organic gardener and really hate the idea of herbicides, toxic fungicides, insecticides, etc., but for poison ivy, I make an exception and will use Roundup and other nasty stuff to try to get rid of the poison ivy!
Here is the same plant taken yesterday. It does have five leaves. I torn down alot of what was there after I took the first picture and this is what has grown since mid April. It is in an out of the way spot so maybe I will leave it and see how it will work into the area once I get there. If it was poison ivy I really wanted to get it out quickly before it had a chance to really get a hold on things.
Thanks
When was that picture taken, Casey? if now it is not poison ivy because it is green but will turn red in the fall. I agree with McCool it looks like woodbine but again in the spring and summer it is green.
Someone asked me for the banana bread recipe, I am so sorry I do not remember who, will you please make your self known again, I will give it to you on D-email
Well, am just about ready for the bedroom!! Went to the neighbors for fish, and she had a really good supper. Fish, hush puppies, slaw, baked beans, fried potatoes, and a relish tray. Carrot cake and coffee for dessert. For all you northerners, us southerners would not dream of having fish without hush puppies. Sort of goes together like love and marriage, horse and carriage, you get the idea!! And if you don't know what hush puppies are, just send me a d-mail, and I will give you an approximate recipe for them, as I never measure, just mix them up and fry them.
Carat, do you suppose that the global warming thing is causing the humidity? One time we were in Las Vegas, went to Red Rock Canyon one afternoon, there was a pretty good breeze, and knew it was hot, but when we got back to town, and saw that the temps were 114, was astounded, because if it was 114 here, and add the humidity, we would not have been able to breathe. 50% here is low!!
Viann, sounds like they need to hire a Director, and give this guy a job in PR. Sounds like he is more suited for that!!. Do you think he will get a good evaluation?
Well, I am going to check out for the night. Don't have anything planned tomorrow, except sprucing up the house for company on Sunday. So will be chasing the dust bunnies, and scrubbing the spots on the carpet, uncluttering the counters, and cleaning out a cabinet under the sink. Had a shelving unit there which allowed more storage, and it collapsed this afternoon, so must untangle the utensils there.
To all, hope that you have a restful warm night. The temps here have dipped to the 40's and the furnace is running.
Good night all.
Sorry all, I was so tired last night I fell asleep on the couch.
