CG two weeks after Messanger spray

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I knew I should have taken a picture of it the day I sprayed but one never know where you see the most dramatic difference
.
I usually don't see a flush like this until late summer. CG was pale looking in the leaves, only a few tiny hints of buds 2 weeks ago. It just exploded with new deep green growth and buds and now is this heavily branched blooming idiot. And the fragrance is heavenly! I got this as an unknown cutting and it is only 3 ft tall at it's lowest branch, 4 ft on the other side, could be taller but I am happy. All my other brugs, plants and houseplants also have tons new growth and buds but this one is the most dramatic.

The sun was going down so the images are paler than the actual deep yellow it really is.

Wow! Are you saying that after using Messenger it grew new buds and matured them to flowering stage in just two weeks??????

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Incredible! DH just ordered some Messenger for me. Think I will have him double the order!

You are obviously doing something very right. Enjoy!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yep, everything is showing wonderful new growth and vigor. My abutilons are looking just as full with rich green leaves and tons of buds. I am so mad I didn't take before pictures!

Ok, tired here so name drawing a blank and and too lazy to get up and look at my garden notebook but this plant only had a few small buds when I sprayed and it was just starting to get new growth now that the rains have stopped and after spraying, well, it's the biggest and best flush I have had on this plant!

Which abutilon is that, Sue?? You have my yard. LOL. I must spray mine, you are so far ahead of me. I am so jealous.

It is Sacred Flower of the Incas, Cantua buxifolia. Mine has been blooming like crazy.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That's Harvest Moon abutilon, one of my favorites.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Sue, can you tell me hold old is that plant in your first pic? awesome

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

looks like a fushia Bolivan something - I think .

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I got the cutting in June 2004, had it in a 1 gal. pot for several months and I think I planted it out in the street side blvd. late spring, early summer 2005.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Tony, it's not, Kell provided the correct answer above. I am looking for a yellow version of the Cantua now.

Great pictures, Sue. I guess I better go mix up some Messenger and get started with a regular program of spraying.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Absolutely gorgeous! Using Messenger is paying off beautifully! As they say, "seeing is believing".

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Sue, I tell you I had no clue there was a yellow too. Do you think it is dark? I can't decide if I should pot mine in a big pot or in the ground. They get so big. But they bloom all summer I understand. I am ready for more pink blooms................. are you keeping your hot pink?

Harvest Moon is one of the few I do not have. It sure is pretty.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yes, love hot pink, fits just fine in the hot color scheme as does fucshia and anything coraly pink.
Mine has been in a big clay pot for two years and I just prune shape it a bit here and there when it gets too scraggly looking.

Note to self, get some algae remover for the pond.

I sprayed with Messinger this week. Is everyone following the directions on the package or is it safe to make it stronger?? I'm just getting mine outside, and trying to get them accustomed to the weather. (putting them under my shrubs)

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gosh, all of your pics are spectacular, so beautful, WOW!!!!!! I used Messengers and never had anything like that - I have so much left that I must give it another try...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

WOW Sherry! I have been thinking of you. How are you?? I am watching Idol as I type!! Are your grands getting excited as it nears the end. Who is their favorite to win??

So Sue, so you want the hot colors? I thought you were now into cool colors. LOL. Pretty brug bloom picture!!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Sue, that is a lovely brug. Do you trim off all the leaves that sprout from the trunk?
How old is this plant?

I didn't get in on the M. Co-op. It must be GOOD. What else do you feed brugs?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I have had the plant for two years, 1 year in the ground. Yes, I trim all the lower trunk leaves off all of mine, I like the tree standard look.

Headland, AL(Zone 8a)

My brugs haven't done much since my sis gave them to me. I need to fertilize them, btu we have been gettting so much heavy rain here every day, that I cna't get out and fertilize them for the rian washing it away. They need to be thristy in order to feed them....and they ahve not been thirsty in almost two weeks! The yellow is a strip off a cow manure bag that I mark all my plants with so my hubby and son know to stay away from them with mowers, weedwahckers, and other sharp implements. I've been feeding it Miracle Grow and Epsom salts....and it is mulched with banana leaves that are rich in potassium.

We had days and days of rain here too a while back. All my brugs looked so pale and sickly. The ones in the ground I just sprinkled fertilizer I bought at HD in the big bags. 16-16-16 below them and let the rains water it in. It seemed to work well. Also if you are going to get 1 dry day, try foliar feedling them. They really perk up after that. I hope you get all sunshine soon, Bamabelle.

Tempe, AZ(Zone 9b)

I have never heard of this product until reading this thread. So, what did I do? Just bought $30 worth on-line but my big question is how do you apply it? Can you use a Miracle Grow sprayer or do you use a spray bottle and just hit the leaves?

Thanks for any help!!!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I bought the 1 gal. size and have a 1 gal. sprayer, just spray the leaves. No need to super saturate them to the point of it dripping off, it just wastes it.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

sue, your plant is beautiful! you've inspired me to try one (guess i'll be hitting the nursuries tomorrow). sorry for the ignorance, but what does CG stand for? how do you care for your tree during the winter?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

CG is Charles Grimaldi. All my brugs stay out all winter, the small ones in pots get tucked in close to the house. I have 5 in the ground so far. Tomorrow I'll take another picture as the blooms are all open now, just a solid fragrant sea of yellow!

What an explosion of Blooms and Color!!
You must be in Heaven with all the Fragrance...
Keep those pictures coming.

Bastrop, TX(Zone 8b)

Where are you getting Messenger?
deb

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Sue
Can you use this on all plants? I am curious where you can order it also. It must be a great product. I saw the co-op but was unfamilar with it.
By the way if anyone is needing markers, We have organized one with Eons.
Check it out.

Bluegrassmom, I use it on all my plants, inside and out. Fruits and vegie growers are also reporting great results. Here are 7 pages of testimonials:

Several links seem to be broken on their site right now, they must be redoing something or maybe it's just me.
You can also do a search here on DG for several threads that go more into details.

Thanks for adding that link wallaby1, thripmaster works for Edenbio so you can also DMail her any questions.
