The only one I know about is B&D. I'm looking for one with sumptuous pictures. Thanks,
Sharon
Good online sources for lily bulbs?
Caitlins Garden, try The Lily Nook, Lily Garden, Hillcrest Harmony, Valley K Greenhouses, Fogbelt Growers, Mondail Lelies B. V., These are just a few of my favorites to dream at. Have fun looking and dreaming
I ordered oriential and trumpet lilies from bloomingbulb.com they sent really nice bulbs. This was my first order from them so I wondered if they would be any good but the bulbs were big and fresh with no mold or soft spots. They are all up and growing happily in my heavy clay soil.
If you want a lot of pics, Lily Nook has a great library. http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/picture_library.htm
Hum....Blooming Bulb.....They are just about to get a big N from me. It will depend on what the lilies are that bloom this year that I ordered from them last fall. I ordered 3 amaryllis from them last fall. Not one was true to name, nothing wrong with the bulb, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I also ordered a bunch of spring bulbs and had the same experience. I was so bummed when the big perennial tulips bloomed pink instead of red. And I must have 40 yellows out there when it should have been a lot of different ones. I just shook my head and said, it sure is a lot of yellow.
It's difficult to give them a N when they are so good about refunding, but after the tulips, I've just decided it's not a money issue. It's an expectation issue. And I'm tired of being disappointed.
Awww phooey!! I was afraid of that very thing, Beaker and I quite agree with you about the expectation issue. I have very limited garden space to plant lilies because of the wind and drainage issues in heavy clay so when I buy and plant something, I want it to bloom true. Well, the good news is that I marked everything when I planted it so if they dont bloom true, I'll be sure to let them (and you all) know.
Blooming Bulb sent me 100 LA South Pacifics instead of the 100 Endless Love.......................I also ordered 25 Mixed orienpets..........at least that didnt get messed up....they were mixed and they were orienpets.
That's a lot of white. Did you keep them? I can't imagine having 100 of the same bulb. Must be spectacular when they bloom.
Yes I did keep them....They were not pure white though and like they are saying I was expecting pure White and...I was disappointed. I kept them....because it was too hard to dig them all up...
This year they have come back in force....Now I count 130 large stems and another hundred babys....Also, I forgot they were LA Hybrids and did not cover them for frost....75% of them got frost nipped...but will still bloom. The whit is pretty in the evening and goes well with my 50 white calla lilys. Here is what they looked like in 2005 the first blooms.
So how do you plant your callas? Do you plant the tuber completely underground or do you have some of the tuber exposed? We were having a discussion about that earlier this year and I'm leaning towards planting mine partially exposed. Do you ever have problems with rotting?
Over the years I've ordered a lot of really nice lily bulbs from Breck's..Good prices..

About callas: Completely underground works for me. Never had trouble with rotting; the tubers keep growing larger and propagating. Dig them up in the fall and throw them dry in a cardboard box - shut lid- put on floor in corner of basement all winter.

Caitlin, what is your soil like? Is it fairly free draining?
Most of my beds have been raised and improved over the years, so yes to your question. There is some heavy clay that I avoid or improve.

I second that I am not a fan of Blooming Bulb. Numerous wrong colors. From Lily's- Alliums. Order 1000 mixed Alliums, all were pink. I quit ordering from there 2 years ago.
Puddles
I planted my callas below ground last year about same depth as my other lilys. I had no problems with rot. Is that to deep?
Not sure. I'm trying them for the first time this year and did a bunch of research this winter, but have forgotten most of it (LOL). I do know that some folks were saying that they don't have too much luck with them and I came to the conclusion that it was because the tubers were getting too wet. One of the on-line sellers had instructions for planting similar to iris. I think having free draining soil is important (like a raised bed). I need to go back and read up on it again.
